CAN Community Health

On and off I find myself believing that I am in the best place to work. More recently finding myself questioning the vision and mission statement of CAN Community Health. The work/personal balance is very challenging. We have become focused on data that produces revenue that pays some good wages. Revenue that seems to create non revenue producing positions within the organization. There are new promotions and new hires often. Sadly, very little additional support at the clinic level. CAN Community Health needs to fix the direct patient care problem. There is not enough clinical staffing. However the upper management is stacked very well. I have been excited  to see the organization grow over the years. I am afraid we have begun losing sight of helping helping others (our patients). Patients contribute to the 340B program by opting to utilize our pharmacies. Lets create real policy on how that funding becomes available to directly assist our patients in need. I am hopeful for good change. Possibly putting to action to words of a nicely written vision and mission statement. We are good. However we have plenty of room for improvement. I am blessed that I work with a manager I can confide in and have an amazing team that is supportive of those we serve. If you are strictly looking for financial opportunity for yourself, compensation is very good. Participate in the retirement plan there is a match and currently an additional 4% income match. Insurance/dental/vision coverage is commendable if only covering yourself. 

unfortunately, those who were there for the mission of the company have been removed, replaced, blackballed, etc. The management are either micromanagers or out to destroy others to fit their agenda. The patients feel it, the staff suffer because of it. When is enough enough for them? It's never enough. You have executives having affairs with their nursing staff, others building alliances to get rid of long timers, people being hired who are not fit for the job because new management wants them there, they travel all over the place to have their faces seen on social media while other teams are running in circles to develop processes to manage the clinics that grew too quick. Work life balance depends on who you are. Management is horrendous. Job culture used to be a beautiful thing, now it's only about money and who gets a new title, money and benefits are great, job security and advancement are great unless you are in someone's way then you get "managed up" as they lovingly refer to it.  CAN used to be family from patients to employees, now it's filled with evil. I hope a new HIV provider comes soon so the patients and employees who are truly there for the mission have somewhere to go. Working at CAN proves that EVERYONE has a price and CAN be bought.

Leadership and management often feel disorganized, and communication is poor. Funding cuts have shifted priorities away from patient care and staff support, which has distorted the original mission. Decisions appear driven more by finances than by people, and many employees feel the organization is motivated by greed rather than service.

There is a clear disconnect between executives and frontline staff. While leadership is highly compensated, clinic-level employees face LOW wages, heavy workloads, and little support. This imbalance makes it difficult for staff to feel valued or to provide the level of care patients deserve. It is not uncommon for staff to arrive at work and find their fob no longer works, only to be told they are terminated. This lack of transparency creates a culture of fear and instability.

Really enjoyed working with the people at the clinic. BUT if you are not liked by your manager for no apparent reason, you have no chance of advancement or better yet having your job very UNEXPECTEDLY. No proper training setup, when have task they just expect you to know it and when you don’t it can cost you your job. No matter how hard you work and how dedicated you are it will still cost your job. This could be an awesome company to work for and it has so much potential. More UNQUALIFIED outside people should be hired. People who actually knows the community and genuinely wants to see the company grow and has potential to make the company grow. Verses having management with degrees who doesn’t have the basic fundamentals on how to manage a team better yet keep a team together and the results shows.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the fun of working with different personalities of clients/patients and knowing you are doing something for the better of the community, while also being able to advance yourself with certifications, summits, conferences, and opportunities to take PTO. The most difficult and hardest part of the job is the constant demand of additional work tasks outside your positions scope, constant overturn of executive staff in combination of lack of advancements for others, and difficult situations you must counsel and navigate with patients. 

This company used to be one of the best places to work for- But a lot has changed in recent years. Nepotism runs deep, there isn’t a ton of room for advancement. The company has now started decreasing benefits like reducing sick time and retirement contributions- in short they are messing with our money and a lot of employees are not happy about this. We also used to get a 6% bonus every year, now they have decreased that from anywhere to 3 to 6% depending on your performance review.  If you are looking for a company that has room for growth, do not work here. It is very common to find people here that I’ve been in the same position with no promotion for 5+ years. They like to keep people where they are instead of see them grow. They pay above average, but not really worth the headache in my opinion.

The hours were great the patients were so sweet and amazing to work with the benefits were great BUT The management at the broward locations does not care about their staff the nurse supervisor is very unprofessional They take positions away from you and expect you to do other's jobs without proper training this was a bitter sweet experience if I had a better supervisor and there wasn't as much favoritism it would of been a solid place to stay at, the turnover is horrible and they cannot keep employees the communication is horrible you can break your back fill in for your employees and they will still say bad things about you! 

The job I have is not the job I was hired to do.  The manager has strong favorites and isn't afraid to rub it in everyone's faces.  Some people have so little work they can barely pretend to be busy and some people are doing the work of three, or at least trying.  Trying by hiding the fact that they are working hours off the clock.  People who have disabilities or require reasonable accommodation are ridiculed and belittled.  It is the most aggressive and hostile company I have ever worked at.  Finger pointing, blame assigning and back stabbing is rampant.  You cannot go to a manager with a concern or question without having negative blowback.

I enjoy all the patients and staff interactions. Sometimes we get difficult patients and that's ok. That gives me the opportunity to meet them and do my best to understand their needs and concerns of their health. Going over and beyond for them with a great team behind me makes the work flow a bit easier and understood. Knowing that there is always a solution to any situation allows greatness. For I am so grateful to be a apart of the CAN family.

Compensation and work are both fantastic. The CEO is wonderful. The problem is with the many many layer of management, too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Also, if you don’t live in Sarasota and aren’t friends with the right people, you won’t get promoted. There is a huge pool of qualified employees that aren’t looked at for promotions unless they are willing to relocate. Also, when people move up positions for their friends are magically created so they also get promoted, and are not posted company wide.
