A typical day at work includes getting report from the previous shift to determine the first task. Depending on the shift depends on what happens first (morning: get residents up for breakfast, evening: checking stocking and toileting before dinner rush and sun-downing, night:checking rooms for changing/toileting residents). I worked evening most of the time I was working there, so I needed to prepare for dinner. Residents were bathed, fed (some needed assistance), toileted, and put to bed (hygiene before bed). Stocking was a necessity as each resident had their items (peri-wash/soap, mouth hygienic items, pull-ups/depends, clean clothes, no-slip socks, brush/comb, towels, wash cloths, sheets/fitted, pillow cases, blankets, personal items) stored in their room as well as some items located on the dining area of the floor court (sectioned off area for the residents). I learned how to be flexible and how to accommodate those who didn't know how to accommodate themselves (every resident suffered from Alzheimer's or some other form of dementia). The management was mostly understanding of all employees and tried to make it feel more like an extended family. The management changed and shifted so that many changes were made and were hard for me to keep up with my being pregnant and continually losing more and more help over the progressing months. The hardest part of the job (minus my physical limitations) would have to have been saying good-bye to the residents, often without warning. The most enjoyable part, however, was the bonding between the residents and myself.

This place is a joke! I was an RN at the facility for a year and did way more work than my job duties intailed. Always short staff, no help, lazy co-workers, very unprofessional atmosphere. No one listens to the nurse the STNAs think they run the show, poor delivery of patient care. The employees were calling state on the company every week because of staffing issues. Poor management as well. Everyone sits in the office until state comes walking in then they all jump up and help out on the floor. No teamwork what so ever. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:40 on one floor. They think your superwoman and can do everything. They expect you to pick up someone else’s slack if something didn’t get done. Oh, and it’s the nurses job to pull off other floors if your short staff and coworkers are so petty they argue and refuse to send any help. No discipline or penalty  for calling off or doing no call no shows!! The Dayshift STNAs would complain about the night shift STNAs not doing check and changes and after awhile it gets old. The STNAs expect the nurses to give them report on the patients instead of reading the supportive device list. Like I said, a lot of lazy people who expect you to do everything because your the nurse! They even have STNAs working with a history of domestic violence and assault charges!!! I’m so happy I’m out that place, would NEVER go back and I was with CHI company for 6 years!!!!!!

I found the staff to appear helpful when you first start, but once you are there for awhile things change. A lot of the staff has been there for years and don’t have to meet any expectations. You’ll also find that the staff that has been there for years tend to disappear during shifts or just hang out in the office, leaving you by yourself. As a new employee, you’re expected to do everything while also making sure you don’t go into OT. You get blamed for not having prep done, even if it is due to management not ordering the product needed to complete the food prep. 

As soon as you have to call off sick for a legitimate reason or put in your two week notice, you can expect to be treated unfairly by the supposed supervisors in the department. The drama and backstabbing that happens here is childish. 

Furthermore, no standard operating procedures are followed in this kitchen. Temperature logs are never filled out for food coming out of the oven or while the food is in the steam table during meal times. There is a recipe book, but it’s never looked at or followed. If the long-time supervisor cared or was actually dedicated to his job, you would think he would be pushing employees to follow what is required by the health department for the safety of residents consuming the food.

This is one of the best nursing homes I have worked at. Before management changed, there were communication, consistency, and opportunities. All staff from different departments usually helped one another. The aids and nurses were always there for their patients. The rooms were well-kept, patients were taken care of and prioritized, and lots of activities for patients and families were planned. The environment was friendly and family-based. Some staff members were rude and unhelpful while others made up for their inabilities. 
After management changed, multiple people quit. Everything that was good about the job, besides the consistent patient care, had left. The new director of nursing did not have the staff's best interest in mind when he took over. They were also lenient when it came to staff discipline. Most staff got away with things and were never talked to about their behavior.  
The hardest part of the job was the demands of patient care. 
You did have flexible hours and the opportunity for overtime. The staff were close with each other and always came to help. They were involved in the patient activities and well connected with the families. 

My typical work day is not typical. My work days are different everyday. The differences in tasks and responsibilities are determined by what my Residents' needs are. I learn much from my Residents. Residents have lived a life before me and  are able to teach history because they lived it. History is a favorite of mine and always has been. The Residents can teach in such an interesting way because they actually experienced what they are sharing. My management team is great. We all work well together and have each other's backs. We can agree to disagree so long as the Residents end up benefiting. The hardest part of my job is when my Residents are sad and/or tearful. I don't like to see them unhappy. It is important to me to hear them and let them know I care. The most enjoyable part of my job is to see our Residents happy and satisfied with living here. Another joy is to see Residents be able to return home once they have completed their rehab. I have been in this field of work for over 40 years and don't regret a minute of it.

I have been employed at this community for over 9 years and hope to work there for many more years. The employees, many of which have been there for 10+ years (a handful as long as 28+ years!!) are treated very well and it is a true blessing to work with the residents. I know other staff as well as the leadership staff feel the same. The Campus Director is fair and works hard to be sure The Gardens at St. Elizabeth is and will continue to be a good place for staff to work and most importantly, for residents to live! We all are recognized and celebrated throughout the year, nobody is left out. We have fun by planning activities with both the staff and the residents together. Each year there is a big Resident and Family Appreciation Party, Christmas Open House for residents and their families along with many more fun thoughtful events to show our residents and family how much we enjoy and appreciate them! If you have a good attitude and know/understand the importance and honor of working with seniors, you will love a career at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth!

This place is horrible the more you do the more they expect from you. I've worked here for a few years now and nothing but the management has changed. You work short staffed most of the time unless you're on first shift. Second and third shift are always short. You're expected to care for anywhere between 15 to 18 residents per hall. There's supposed to be two aides per hall. Most residents aren't suited for assisted living they can't do any part of their care for themselves. There's a lot of heavy lifting you have to change feed and put them to bed as well as clean the kitchen and do 3 loads of laundry as well as 3 showers a shift and lord help you if there's a fall while you're attending to other residents. One person can't be everywhere and do everything. Third shift most nights don't have a nurse on duty so if there's a fall the aides are responsible for accessing the resident getting their vitals and whatever else. If someone passes and no nurse you're told to call hospice. They always say hang in there it'll get better no it wont it hasn't in the last 3yrs. Wouldn't recommend working here. 

If you care to work for a Company who will stab you in the back with a drop of a Pin this is the place for you.. I would not even suggest you take you Dog or Cat to live in this Environment
The Management is so out of touch and in bed with the Front line lazy Care givers. They would rather sit around and talk in whatever dialect. to the day. The family members are not allowed  in the the Building for the most part due to Covid so they have No idea how their precious family members are really being treated.. They have Absolutely to activities and they get them up at 4 o'clock in the Morning. Line them up only to wait till 0730 and for a  measly meal. This is suppose to be their highlight of the day. But the food is nothing to write home about either. I pray that these Poor Residents are taken care of in Heaven because Namaste is nothing but Smoke and Mirrors.. Take you Loved on anywhere else but this Place.

Long stressful and understaffed days, with no help from any departments or admins. Admins always expect us to get our job done and everyone else's job. Task given outside our job description, goes unnoticed, and expect to be done better and 'timely' manner, a struggle with no help. Overtime is expected but appreciated when they want too, Admins/ directors promises bonus, but they never given out, also with false amounts they will giving, promised 100, and given 60. Residents are great and provided with enough care, it would better if they would hire people and not rely on the ones they have. They pay favoritism with resident and staff, taking care of them ones who bring more to the company (Money), even if we don't have the proper tools to take care of them, they still give fake promises to the families so they can move them in, space or no space. terrible at training new staffs allowing them to do CNA or Hospice work with no license. 

Working in this assisted living and memory care community was a mixed experience. The best part of the job was the coworkers—most were genuinely supportive, caring, and willing to help each other through long shifts. The team often worked together to make sure residents received the attention and compassion they deserved. Unfortunately, the biggest challenge was upper management. Communication from leadership was inconsistent, and decisions were often made without considering the staff or the impact on resident care. Concerns brought to management were rarely followed up on, leaving many employees feeling unheard and undervalued. Staffing issues were frequent, creating unnecessary stress and burnout. While the day-to-day work with residents could be rewarding, the lack of strong, empathetic leadership made the environment difficult. With better management, this could be a great place to work, but as it stands, the leadership issues overshadow the positives
