Working with people with developmental disabilities has to live in your heart. You have to to deal with situations you never probably even dealt with and it all has to be done with love, so you can enjoy coming to work everyday, They all have to be treated equally and with respect as any other human being (if you can't do that, this is not the job for you) also you have to understand various cultures as well. It can be stressful at times when a client doesn't want to follow directions, or don't want to take their meds. I feel House Management needs to respond and or schedule employees in a more consistent timely manner to the clients home. If not you are to maintain yourself there by law till another employee arrives to take over the shift. I Loved seeing all their smiles as soon as I walked in the door. It is like a family, but the hardest part is not allowing them to adapt to you because of the professionalism you have to maintain, so that they don't suffer in case you have to change homes are are no longer employed there.

Hired to work as a direct support professional, I was told at the interview that I would not have to do any lifting over 25 lb. I was also told that I would be able to start with one night a week at the most to and that the individualized house training would take place during certain hours the following week. The hours did not match what I was told, and I had no way of knowing what those hours were because the managers gave me the wrong login information, so over the holiday weekend I have no way of knowing for 4 days what my schedule is going to be until orientation time arrived. There were other Communications that did not match between the interviewer and the HR and onboarding personnel. There needs to be a tightening of the process so that when people are interviewed and hired and then begin orientation it all matches up. It caused me a lot of aggravation and they wound up telling me after just one day to get lost because I challenged them on their poor communication.

If you're lazy and love sitting and Doing nothing this is the place for you!
If you're a hard working ambitious type might as well look elsewhere. 
They hold their best employees back so they don't have to pay them properly all while promoting the worst and least productive. Basically, do nothing and you rise fast. Work hard and you get reprimanded and told you're doing too much. That's the way they run things. It's Not a good place for people with good morals and work ethic as they way they treat the clients borders on abuse and neglect. Clients are not made to shower so every home has bedbugs or couchmytes from them being so filthy all the time. It's really sad because the clients are great! It's the administration who's got no clue of what they're actually doing which is why they can't keep a TL or DSP longer than 4 weeks. People get a glimpse and run. I should've done the same. As should you!

This was my first experience as a DSP. The classes you take are informative but they do not get you ready for the job itself. There were no breaks, I came to the location where I was working for the day and it I was met with holes in the wall, a heater that barely worked, and an aggressive client that slept on floor with a 3 in mattress. The client grabbed me and pushed me multiple times in the same day. No locks where locks are needed and if you quit without a 2 week notice they drop your wages down to minimum wage but they don’t not make you sign any document agreeing to that. 

You have to use the same restroom as clients who do not know how to clean themselves properly and eat in house that stinks  (I couldn’t). Overall the experience was extremely uncomfortable and I would not recommend this job to anybody. 

Beware of ads placed by this company, claiming what the hourly pay will be, 

It also doesn’t matter what the truth is, because they can just say whatever they want about you, including insulting people who actually have a work ethic, show up on time, don’t just sit around, and actively try to improve clients’ lives.
 
It’s really sad work, mainly because caring for patients ought to be the focus, versus training an employee three times on something understood the first time, only to help create more cause against me.

You can work hard and make note of things you did, but at the end of the day they can just invent and twist up and pretend at leadership.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Terrible you will get fired for no reason over worked blamed for others mistakes every one in the office is fake they talk about every one the company is a revolving door!!!! A most houses have bed bugs!!!!!!!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything is stressful about this company nothing is fun about it and if you ever get into a real situation don’t ask then for help because they’ll say you’re a burden

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s terrible not a good environment because you will have to worry about taking bedbugs home!!!!!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful because they are always out of ratio a great deal of turn overs

What is the best part of working at the company?
Many practices that the company had were inappropriate. They do not treat their workers very well either. Not my favorite job by far.  I did resign because of this.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Disfunction with some management and their were bed bugs at one of the houses I worked at when I started and this was not disclosed prior to working in the house to new workers. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not a great time as a whole but there were some great coworkers there.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Just like any other job routine, when you work as a direct support professional.

Its great to have a company that gives the option of two-way training, and a detailed orientation. The creative abilities that I am able to contribute to Connections in Ohio has given me a sense of belonging. I am able to maintain my personal life, while maintaining a 40hr work week! I did not have this flexible schedule with previous employers. I have seen individuals advance to other positions in the company within their 90 day period (this is a great aspect for retaining employees)! I have been here since January 2016 and I enjoy what I do on a daily basis!

This company has a very punitive and toxic culture. Employees are constantly threatened with write-ups. Policies are often contradictory. The way the company informs employees of issues isn't consistent: you might receive a text, an email or even snail mail or information may be posted in an obscure place on the website. 
Turnover is through the roof. My immediate supervisor had only 9 months experience. You're expected to complete medical tasks for the clients that really should be done by LPNs or RNs. Payroll is sketchy and I was shorted on hours and the company was slow to correct the error. 
Horrible place to work. 

Management clearly don’t care about the clients or the staff. The clients barely have any food in the houses. Management is petty. They can’t keep people employeed here for a reason. Management act like they can’t come in to work and will leave you “froze” when someone calls off or doesn’t show up. They don’t care about staff having families and responsibilities outside of the job. Your life is supposed to revolve around working here. This job is very depressing and just overall horrible. Only good thing is PTO and getting raises, but it’s not worth it.
