Initially I loved my position and the vision of the SSW role. We aimed to meet the need of students where they were, whether they could pay for services or not. Since then, the production requirement I’ve been given has increased by hundreds of hours and I am expected to make sure that I attend to “paying clients” to their satisfaction.  The focus has moved from those in need to those who pay. 
Administration micromanages, searching for errors to the point of spelling in emails. (Even when the spelling is correct!)  There has been no increase in PTO days (this includes sick time, bereavement and personal days) since the day I started - this is 7 days total. 
Depending on your placement, you could be busy from the second you walk in the door until when you shut off your work phone. All documentation is expected to be completed in a timely manner - which is impossible to do with the production requirement UNLESS you work from home. 
Salaried employees are required to clock in and out.  You will be questioned if you clock in late but not if you clock out late or clock in over the weekend to catch up on work notes. 


Typical day at the office would be to maintain all records to ODMH standards by providing therapists, social workers, and management with list of deadlines of necessary documents for each individual client record for compliance.  

I obtained good working knowledge of the mental health field including daily use of the DSM-IV.

The hardest part of my job was saying good bye and relinquishing what I built in the records department when I relocated.  I took a lot of pride in the standards I upheld.

The absolute best part of my job was the reward of receiving excellent ratings after the annual audit.  That was the absolute best, knowing my work was not only compliant but at best practice standards.

The flexibility of the work schedule allowed for a better chance to complete personal life appointments when needed

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Because things can happen at a moments notice, it is easy to always be paranoid about the phone ringing.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There does exist a hypocritical culture here. People are very friendly to your face, but will freely talk behind your back.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Pretty straight forward work day. The focus is on productivity and, at times, the last priority is what’s best for the families worked with.

I have worked at Cadence for a year now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my job. I love going to homes and meeting with families and helping them find the resources they need. The ability to have a flexible schedule and balance that with my personal life is so important, and Cadence truly honors that. I am excited for growth opportunities, especially while pursuing my Masters Degree. I have received nothing but support from the higher-ups, and I can tell they want me to stick around and succeed. Overall, this is my favorite job I have ever had!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Most of the staff are pleasant and willing to help new staff.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Meetings, scheduling clients to fill the day including after normal business hours.  Typing detailed notes on client interactions.  Maintaining close contact with county caseworkers.

No two days at Homes For Kids look the same- in a good way. You create your own schedule. HFK works with a wide range of clients and communities so if you have specific or general interests in mental health populations then this is the place for you. The managerial and peer staff are awesome and friendly. You start with a lot of vacation and sick days. HFK also has a good system for incentives and pay. I actually left HFK and then came back within a year because of the environment.

The idea of the company and the Respite program is great. I really felt that I made connections with the families and made a difference in some of them. You make your own schedule and caseload. Through the Respite program though, there isn't a lot of job security. Also, the one respite worker who is supposed to be experienced in the field is very unprofessional and inappropriate with clients but is still allowed to work there. Overall, besides the co-workers, the job could make a real difference in the community.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Restrictive work environment that does not notice autonomy as a clinician. Management is caddy, and the pods seem to be high school meetings amongst peers that talk trash. Feels like high school.

Inviting work environment, non transparency

Like high school. Mean girls club.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Unproductive. Skills are micro
Managed.

Management team is supportive, helpful and takes a servant-leader approach.  There are opportunities to grow, develop skills, and advance.  The agency is well-respected in the community.  Employees are proud to work there.  There are plenty of opportunities to make a difference.

This is a great place to work at and provides a lot of opportunities for growth both personally and professionally.  The team environment provides support in daily work and a network of knowledge that supports client interactions. This place provided me with a lot of happiness and support in seeking my own professional goals.  There is a great deal of diversity in services provided and engagement with community partners.  Fun and professional place to work!
