I was very excited initially when I got the job at CalvertHealth. After working there for about 10 months and it was clear that the work situation wasnt going to change, I decided to look elsewhere. 

Management expects you to clock in no more than 15 minutes before your scheduled 7am or 7pm shift. So 6:45am/pm. However they also expect you out on the floor to receive report at this time, giving you zero PAID time to look up your 6, yes six patients on a rigorous acute care floor. 

Routine understaffing meant high nurse burn out, especially when you have PCTs that were complained about because they did not do their job well. Management refused to acknowledge staffing issues and nurse/patient ratio issues and, in some opinion was not a competent person in the fulfilled role. 

High patient turnover with little charge nurse support. Most of the time supervisors are concerned with moving patients at the cost of quality patient care. 

This employer does not value their nurses at all. Pay is marginally lower than other hospitals in the area. Seldom would you get your self-scheduled shifts, I assume because of the staffing issues. Management is not interested in staff satisfaction. 

Save yourself and don’t even apply here.

This company will offer you all the bells and whistles when you apply, but don’t be fooled. They hype themselves up in the beginning. They offer benefits-but only if your spouses company does not offer benefits. And the benefits are expensive and not very good. They offer paid lunch breaks, but rarely do the nurses taking care of patients get breaks, you can believe the people that work in offices do get breaks though. They offer leave if your sick, but if you call out just one time you are written up. Their policies only cover them, and management can do whatever they feel, they don’t have to follow policy.  Management does not listen to your concerns or needs. 98% of my time working it’s understaffed, 1 tech to share for 5 nurses.  I have been forced to work without proper PPE, or told to leave ( abandon my patents and be fired-straight words from a charge nurse). We had to share lab coats between staff-that was our ‘disposable Ppe’ I have been witness to management and HR harass staff, belittling staff, including myself. This place has terrible HR and management. I’ve never been so disgusted to work at a facility. Terrible.

I have been employed with CalvertHealth for over 5 years working in an extremely busy providers office. The pay is a complete joke and the raises are literally pointless you get about 1% raise a year even if you score almost perfect on your review. You are over worked and under appreciated. When you are hired as a medical assistant you are expected to do the job of multiple people - surgical scheduler, insurance authorizations, administrative duties and that all takes aware from what you're really supposed to focus on is the actual patient care. The offices are all completely understaffed and you are chastised if you call out sick because of lack of coverage. Upper management does not fully understand how busy the offices are and they expect more out of you than is humanly possible.

I truly love everyone that I work with, and the team work is phenomenal. I have some friends for life that I met here. Cons are the patient assignments. It’s not always bad, it’s just those bad days you have that get to you. Sometimes hard to have a “good night” staff wise especially on nightshift without getting pulled to another unit or someone being sent home saying we are “overstaffed” only to max everyone out. Most likely to always have 6 patients on MedSurg/tele. And if you don’t start with 6 you will definitely be full by morning on nightshift. Days have more resources just like any other facility and staffing is a bit better at times. Pay could be better due to rising costs in economy. Gorgeous facility just some areas still need to be remodeled to match everything else 

June of 2004 I was hired for a job that was brand new and slowly started different duties and created a position that helped the Medical Director of the ER.  He and I would recruit Physicians, work on reports to help with managing the work flow and patient management and I would do the Physician schedule.  One EMA took over the contract a lot of this that company took over and I work strictly on reports.  Working for Physician Management was a very pleasant time in my career as Administrative Assistant.

The staff is overworked and the Behavioral Health unit is understaffed. They do not keep Mental Health Workers because management does not give the proper support needed such as checking in with staff members after orientation or meeting with staff after problematic events with patients. If you have a bachelor's degree, you will likely be asked to work a 16-hour shift at least once a month because only Mental Health Workers with Bachelor's Degrees are allowed to run group therapy. You will definitely gain experience.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The patient care. I also enjoyed working with the behavioral health patients and making them feel better.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to talk to your manager whenever you need to.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic very stressful and if you are not in a certain click, then they will not speak to you. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Keeping myself busy and staying out of the drama.

Community-based hospital that really cares about providing its patients with a clean and safe environment and quality care. Educational assistance program is above average. Work/Life balance program provides many useful tools. Just Culture focuses on processes and not blame. Many good work teams within the organization.

My time at Calvert has been great.  However, we have gone through multiple managers.  The management team in place now, with the exception of my direct supervisor seems more interested in revenue than helping people.  We are a community hospital and should be about our community.

We have a variety of cultures represented within our staff and it is an all inclusive facility.  This is a plus for me.  I love working with people and doing my best to provide top notch service.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
All the work load is put on the PCT’s. The RN’s sit back and just pass meds.

Drama! Very backstabbing coworkers!

You will be on your feet running from the moment you clock in.
