I am grateful that a recruiter found me on LinkedIn last Winter. Being out of college, Capsule Pharmacy was my first real full-time job where I had to commute to and communicate with more people than I'm used to. I'm glad I was able to experience what people call the "corporate life". It's definitely intimidating at first, but coworkers who sat next to me were very friendly and helpful, managers were caring, and the environment although serious, was also fun. I loved walking into the office everyday and seeing our bright blue, red, and yellow logos everywhere. The things you did everyday and being able to represent the company is something that makes you proud inside. 

My position as a processing associate, which is similar to that of a pharmacy technician at a regular pharmacy, requires quick and accurate processing of prescriptions and sending the checkout link to the patient. With a week of training, it might be rough at first, but it's also exciting while you learn the different types of insurance and medications (even though there are constantly new ones!) The process, rules, and everything are all changing very quickly though. It's important to follow-up on the weekly newsletters to remember the new workflows. The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to successfully process a prescription with no errors and delivering it to the patient. The hardest part of the job is being on the phone for an hour with the insurance trying to get a prescription to go through. And of course, you're in front of the computer the whole day and sitting in a chair. Not much action physically, but lots of tasks waiting for you electronically!

The benefits are great - there's health, vision, dental. There's a commuter plan and 401K plan with no match though. You accumulate paid time off and sick leave when you work and a certain amount can be carried over onto the next year. The people team, or the HR, are reachable via email when you have any questions and they usually respond within 3 days. When there's IT problems, there's a site you can report your problem and they will gladly assist. Most of the time, you would directly report to your manager. 

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company has been working remotely. They have been very accommodating in requesting IT equipment and your needs to help you work efficiently and productively. The company's mission to create a pharmacy that works for everyone is not easy and I'm pleased to be a part of it. We're always looking after and winning together. 

During my time at as a courier at the company, I saw as new companywide policies were instituted that changed how the job was done and app was used nearly bi-weekly, confusing everyone.  Employees I spoke to that had been with the company talked about how even just a year previously the workload and communication was decent and it was a pretty good job, but were now miserable.  Previously delivery couriers had been asked to deliver between 15 and 20 packages per 2 hour route, but while I was there I saw that climb to 30+ packages.  (unpaid) time off request instructions were constantly unclear, and I spent most of the time unsure who my supervisor even was.  Employees have to call a customer service line to even speak with their higher ups, and then receive a call back at the supervisor's convenience.  Customers frequently complain about not recieving packages when they order them, and also spoke about how service has gone downhill.  When I tried to pass those complaints along, anyone I spoke to at the company would quickly tell me the customer had to call customer service if they want to file a complaint, and it wasn't their job to pass anything on.  

Finally, and maybe most egregiously - the job on indeed when I applied described itself as 22 dollars an hour.  Only after my application was accepted and I went to onboarding was I told that it is actually a 15 dollar an hour job, with an "incentive" that is paid out once every pay period which is dependent on you not having no-call no shows, dropping packages late, or just about any other problem that comes up.  Two separate times I didn't receive the incentive and was never given a reason why.  So if you're depending on the hourly rate of your job for bills and rent, you know, try not to have anything go wrong ever on this job, even if you are unaware.  One other thing not mentioned during onboarding was that the Brooklyn hub was not a place, but a street where a van comes once every two hours with tubs of prescription medication.  Our particular location for the unmarked white van to drive up was also the site of several active shooter incidents throughout the time I was there (3 months) and despite employee complaints, the company did not think it was worth it to shift the hub spot.

It feels like a startup that is not keeping up with the amount they want to expand.  Every level of the operation is in disarray.  

First, let me start out with the good for you as a biker. I think you might still have the option to choose a flexible schedule so you can work on the days you choose, the atmosphere is pretty chilled, no one breathing down your neck or being annoying, just do what you gotta do and no one bothers you and you get bagels like once a week, I think....Now lets tell you why I left. AS A BIKER, expect no paid holidays or time and a half on holidays.
You work like 28 to 30 hours a week MAX and you get paid peanuts, I mean 15 an hour with NO TIP and you're making like 20 stops a route. That's a missed opportunity to get your most vital employees paid if you ask me, just imagine if all 20 customers  tipped at least $2, a biker would make 750 the least a week before taxes but oh to mitigate that they pay you an Incentive WHICH you can easily lose for stuff that's not even your fault, so yea you basically make crumbs and get paid every 2 weeks so it doesn't look so small. On a good consistent day you could make more with UberEats doing the same amount of riding but with less work stair climbing. Speaking of work and stair climbing, managers should consider the fact that if 90% of a route consist of buildings with no elevators or doorman then just know you as a courier have to climb anywhere between 6-18+ flight of stairs for each drop(Yes 18+, I got sent to the projects once and the elevator was broken so guess who had to climb up to the 20th floor)  It hurts, its tiring and its time consuming which can sometimes lead to a late,  a courier should not lose their incentive because of that and to add insult to injury, we don't even get tips after climbing all those stairs, talk about discouraging. My advice, get rid of the incentive and implement tips or implement both, put a $2 cap on the tips if you so wish because bikers need it and would greatly appreciate it. 

Working for Capsule is what you make it. I came into this company looking for more as a pharmacy technician. The field itself is lacking. Unless you become a pharmacist there isn't much room for growth in the field. Capsule gives you a new perspective on the world of pharmacy. If you come in hungry and driven you will flourish. You make your experience at Capsule and they welcome what you bring. For a retail technician, it takes getting used to. I had a hard time adjusting and I had people reaching out to me supporting me and letting me know I can and will adjust. They had faith in me and my abilities that I didn't have in myself.  Once you do get used to it, it's a different world. A world where a technician can become a team lead and grow into a manager. Like with anything to each their own. This stands true with management. Each manager has their method of managing. Some learn the work so that they can make you more proficient at it. Any place you go has its flaws as nothing in life is perfect. Capsule has a goal of changing the pharmacy world and with the right people coming in and growing with the company it will. It is a place that's worth working at. You will be challenged to learn and to grow and if you take it on right, you will not only learn and grow professionally you will truly grow overall from your experience here. If you are lazy then you will not get all that this company has to offer. You will find people at Capsule who hold the statements "winning together" and "looking after" to heart and will work to implement them. YOU choose what your experience at Capsule is. 

I applied on a whim because it was remote work, and after about a decade in retail and hospital pharmacy and then Covid, I am fully over the traditional pharmacy experience as an employee. Gone are the days of holding my bladder until I get UTIs and being understaffed. It’s a green company, and a tech startup, and there’s a bit more emphasis on being a health/tech startup than a pharmacy and that is fine by me. Like any start up, it’s not perfect. Systems, chains of command and logistics are still being worked out. Yes, you have your rude and entitled customers, but a lot of them are very happy to being using Capsule and it shows in the way they speak to you. It’s a lot of work but your shifts are staffed very well to handle it, and they’re very preemptive about issues. Part of working in pharmacy is not knowing everything, but knowing how to research and they put the tools in your hand to do it. Higher ups are receptive to feedback, I made a suggestion in my second week in training that was implemented. I’ll update my review when I hit 6 months, but so far I am so pleased to be working here. My manager is an angel and down to earth, maybe I’m one of the lucky ones. Expectations are high but not unreasonable. 

My time at Capsule Pharmacy was a letdown, to put it mildly. Management barely interacted with the pharmacy operations team—we were told by higher-ups that managers weren’t even allowed to speak to us, which made for a disjointed and tense environment. It was like walking on pins and needles every shift, with no sense of support or collaboration.  

The hours were grueling: 10-hour workdays starting at 8:00 AM and ending at 6:30 PM. Sundays were especially brutal—you’d start at 8:00 AM and wouldn’t get a break until 3:30 PM, and even then, it’s just a measly half-hour lunch. Pay was another issue. You’re locked in at $18.00 an hour with no chance of a raise, no matter how long you stick around or how much you put in. It’s clear they don’t care about growth or keeping employees motivated. The vibe was oppressive, like they didn’t want you to enjoy a single moment of your day.  

And then there’s the chaos I witnessed: people getting high on mushrooms and passing out—yes, at a pharmacy. It’s absurd and honestly alarming that this kind of behavior was happening in a place meant to prioritize health and responsibility.  
 It’s not hard to say good morning when the day starts or to commend your team when they have a good day—it’s basic decency that goes a long way. If you’re not a pharmacist, they act like there’s no need to sit and speak with you, which is just sad. Capsule, do better. This place might sound innovative as a concept, but working there was a nightmare. I’d steer clear if you’re looking for a job that respects your time, effort, or sanity.



First off, calling this place a "pharmacy" is a joke. It's a warehouse (assembly line style) ran by 3-4 terrorizing managers who harass their employees (speak inches from your face, press up against employees, be your shadow until they deem they've officially made you uncomfortable, threaten your hours/job when convient) This job is a lose lose situation. You'll never have the opportunity to be promoted, and they're always changing up the rules when it works in their favor. There's no such thing as H.R. H.R is just a group of people that will hear your complaint, then tell the person you're complaining about that you have a problem with them. And if that issue happens to be with a manager, your days are numbered. Staff wise- you dont have to have any pharmacy experience and no legitimate qualifications to work there. They'll hire anyone off the street. The theme is definitely high school (like mean girls, the heathers, carrie- without the glorious ending) with all the cliques, arguments, gossip, and physical altercations. When I was first hired, a few employees told me to run and I didnt understand. Unfortunately, now I do, all too well. Please, apply else where.

I was with Capsule for two years and was part of the big change to work remotely. The training remotely was too much information at once and rushed, the ones who taught seem to take it as a joke at times.

The managers quit often, I already had been through 3 within 2 years so that's uncomfortable. The managers aren't even trained properly so they relay inaccurate information most times. Also, the rules change constantly and the system is slow at times or completely crashes. They like to point fingers and when you call them out on it they try to mask it.

The customers seem disappointed most of the time because you have people there who seem to just be going with the motions and I do not blame them, my advice would be to look at the entire structure of this company and hire classy people who actually do their job right. Too many mishaps and this is medication we are dealing with. 

Managers didn’t support me when I had medical notes/accommodations from my dr. They have a point system for attendance and don’t care what the reasoning is for being late/needing a day off, even if your dr provides proof of it for you. My manager specifically did not care about the health/well being of any of their employees. Half the time, he would read my messages and then never respond. Our workflow would change literally every other day and we were expected to be able to keep up with 500+ messages and calls incoming at once. Even after the company laid off multiple employees (twice in my time working there). Management also had policies where we had to lie to customers about if we had certain medications in stock and weren’t allowed to tell them if we did or not, and they required people to have scripts sent in to us before we can give them any additional info about it. Overall, they are very unorganized and it’s a toxic work environment, avoid if you can.

I work out of the Boston pharmacy and manage a crew of drivers who make deliveries to customers throughout Greater Boston. I work with a small team in the office, including the general manager for the location.

Responsibilities vary from day to day but include scheduling, working with the pharmacy to fill and deliver orders on time, and recruiting new employees. This is a very hands-off management culture and the employees are responsible for managing their time and tackling their goals. It's a dynamic environment and there are plenty of talented people focused on delivering a better pharmacy experience to a growing pool of customers. Expectations for the next year are high and there are the predictable growing pains of a small company working to get bigger. Right now it's very much a place of close collaboration between every department--a nice change of pace from a prior role at a larger company.
