Care for the Homeless

This company is a mess all the way around. They’re understaffed and unorganized. They’re so desperate to hire people that it doesn’t seem like they care anymore if they get people who have any experience they just need bodies. You’re hired for one job but most of what you’re doing is front desk. The staff that has remained has about three people who know what they’re doing but none of those people are admin/management. Their priority is to get more patients into our clinics but anything after that isn’t their concern anymore.  They don’t charge patients for medical services but that’s the only good this company does. There are a lot of HR concerns as well. The way they handle any harassment complaints is a joke. You’re supposed to handle everything on your own as no one ever responds in a timely fashion about anything. You have outreach specialist and front desk taking vitals. If you’re expecting a raise or promotion make sure you don’t do your job or what’s asked of you and guaranteed you’ll see it in less than a year. No body at the main office steps foot in any clinic for more than a few hours but think they know how any clinic runs and no two clinic are the same. If you want to get into a nonprofit where you feel like you’re actually doing something just find another job. If you’re looking for a job just to clock in and out and get paid every two weeks and don’t mind just registering patients this is the job for you. 

Management at Care for the Homeless is horrible/terrible. There is no connection to their mission statement, staff is biased and prejudiced, they only look out for one another. There are a lot of sneaky ways, and along with management they have no sense of their policy or work ethics. The women in the shelters do not like the medical staff and the way they talk to them (as if they're beneath them because their in a shelter). Providers are rude and violate HIPPA laws, the intake center has about 3 good staff members, but be careful because the manager from the intake center likes to lie when she does not like the employees. I have a medical incense that is above an MA, and after hiring me, i was told all staff had to be medical assistants. They do not follow EEOC guidelines, and the company is overall frivolous. Good place to start to gain a learning experience, however not a good company to work for. Save yourself the time and pain, and whatever you do, if you have another job, do not quit until your probationary ends because they will leave you high and dry. If you can, AVOID this company at all costs!!!

Today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025, marks my one-year anniversary working at Liberty Ave men's area CFHOMELESS-the same amount of time the organization has been open. While appreciate having a job that allows me to work close to home and the work itself isn't bad, I can't help but feel that Care for the Homeless doesn't always extend that same care to its employees. I remain committed to my work here, but hope to see improvements in how employees are valued and supported.

Care for the homeless does not really care for the employees.So CFHOMELESS I worked here for 1yr today Wed 2/12/25 it's not a bad work I am able to work sorta close to home;it's been open for 1yr as long I have been here.

This organization has weak communications and you will be held responsible for things that you did not know, you will often have to take on responsibilities that are not yours and then be expected to continually handle the extra responsibilities with no extra compensation.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Often stressful due to bad communication 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful due to the fact that things change or are modified but the communication goes out late or sometimes not at all.

CFH offers a good place to get your feet wet in healthcare. They offer a lot of services to the homeless and the work is very rewarding. Sometimes that is overshadowed by the awful administrative edicts that get passed down and are rarely followed up on. There is zero room for advancement and they will make a yearly raise seem like a gift from the gods when you get one. If you want to find out what non-profit FQHC work is like, work here. If you want a job where you can grow and evolve, and where your opinion is heard, look elsewhere. 

Treat your staff like people, not numbers. Keep in mind that before your regime came into effect, the staff's morale was better... Plus, we are not at fault for your current issues-You, the executives are. Try to treat your staff with more respect and fairness, instead of the disrespect and disregard we are all experiencing under your regimen (all except for the medical providers). Again, understand and note that you, the executives are at fault for the uncertainty Care for the Homeless is facing.

The people that chose to work in homeless medicine are usually the best kind of people and I can say the clinic staff I worked with were beyond amazing. The management however only care about the bottom line and provide little to no real support. The only opportunity for advancement is for those who work on the main office not for clinic staff who actually do the work with this at risk population. I loved working with the homeless and the dedicated clinic staff but the lack of support from the office does not allow many quality employees to stay for more than a year or so. 

A typical day at work could range from peace and quiet to very busy and hectic. I learned that you have to have a lot of patience dealing with the homeless population. You also can't let the patient's discourage you and you just have to take a deep breath and don't let their aggression get you out of character. Management could have been way better but you learn to deal with the cards you are dealt and make the best of every situation and still be a team player. The most enjoyable part of the job was when the women actually appreciated the work that was done for them and they thank you and show you gratitude.

In this company you have to be ready to work with different types of genders, families, personalities and health issues. I love this company because you learn how to work with children, family, seniors, HIV population, and gay and lesbians. It was a great experience for me which helped me today to perform at my best. My team was a small team covering different shelters through out the tri-state area. I really enjoy working with everyone from the Kitchen to the administrators.

The work place was enthusiastic and productive. Great team efforts to complete daily tasks. Very peaceful environment for workers to provide quality work. Communication skills are tested on a daily basis to provide clients with opportunities in various areas of need. The greatest reward is seeing clients satisfied with the employers efforts in assisting the clients obtain permanent housing and employment.
