Cash Express, LLC

A typical day at Cash Express is non-stop activity: there is no such thing as having nothing to do. You are expected to either be working on a loan, collecting on a loan or soliciting for a loan which would be fine except we loan to people who CANNOT afford to pay it back. 

Your typical workday will start at 8:20 a.m. (banks open at 8:30 a.m.), where you will withdraw a certain amount of money and take it to open your store (stores open to the public at 9:00 a.m.). Immediately after prepping your drawer(s), you will begin your first round of collection calls: there are three rounds total. Some stores trade calls to encourage a higher level of collection. After your first round of calls, your store should already be open and ready for business so you are either loaning money or hunting for people to loan it to, whether it is in person solicitation or USPS EDDM solicitation (door to door mailing via the post office). This is all day long, there is the expectation that you will solicit new loans with new and existing customers so marketing is a very very very BIG DEAL: the average hours of marketing each week are 8-12, which is in addition to your in store marketing. If you have an assistant it is a lot easier to do as you can split the schedule. However, you are both expected to work the same amount of hours. Don’t forget to complete your other two rounds of collection calls, some on loans that have not been current for years.  The phones never stop ringing, the door never stops swinging and the emails never stop pinging: there is activity, the entire time you are there. If you are lucky and get your store shut down in time, you may be able to get out of the building and do your nightly deposit before 6:00 p.m. 

Each Monday starts at 8:00 a.m. with District Meetings that last about 30-35 minutes, telling you about all the ways you could be better. Payday Fridays start with Manager Meetings at the same time, ripping you a new one and telling you how your store needs to make more money, no matter what the circumstances are. Saturdays are half days truly expected to make more money for the company but are typically used to play catch up on anything missed during the week. Sundays the stores are closed, even if it could help your store get better, even if you are willing to come in off the clock. 

This company makes their money off of poor towns full of people who simply cannot afford day to day living. The average loan has an interest rate of 267%. You read that right. Not 26.7% but TWO HUNDRED SIXTY-SEVEN percent. If a customer needs to borrow $100, you are expected to push them to borrow $250. If they borrow $250, you are expected to push them to $600 if they are eligible. 

You are NEVER encouraged to work in the interest of the customers but to increase the bottom line of the company. If you’re a real good boy, you get $14-15/hr plus up to 2-4% of the revenue made each month but you must hit several different metrics each month to get numbers like that (most stores are expected to make $12,000 per month, some stores are expected to make three times as much, if not more. Managers make $14-15/hr plus 4%, Assistant Mangers make $12-13, their monthly bonus is equal to half of what the Manager made, no matter who did the most work). Each time you hit your goals, Corporate will move the goalpost further and further away. In other words, the more you perform, the more is demanded of you, nothing is ever good enough. 

Overtime is highly discouraged unless you are loaning money to yet another person who will not be able to pay it back in a timely manner. There are three different types of loans: Payday Loans, Flex Loans and Title Loans. You are expected to convince customers to take out all three if they are eligible; of course you can’t do it the first time the customer comes in to borrow, but over the course of 90 days of revolving lines, it is not only expected but demanded. If you refuse, you will be terminated. 

All I learned from this company is how to encourage people to get better with their finances and how important it is to avoid the pitfalls of borrowing money from loan sharks. Management are a bunch of piranhas whose sharp teeth are hidden behind plastered on smiles, excessive personality disorders and an unhealthy amount of stimulants. The culture is simple enough: make us money or else. Bullying is hidden behind “friendly competition”. The hardest part of the job is trying to comfort people who are about to lose everything, knowing the loan you give them is only going to make things worse, very shortly. The most enjoyable part of the job is walking away with your soul intact. 

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WORKING HERE. YOU WILL LOSE A PIECE OF YOURSELF THAT YOU MAY NOT GAIN BACK. However, if you are a back biting self serving piece of human trash whose point of view focuses on money only, you will THRIVE there. Good luck. 

I worked at corporate for several months, and this place is awful.
Honestly, most of the people I worked with were pleasant, but that's about it.
Pay is quite low for anyone without a three letter or fancy title.  Only notable exception is store employees at busy stores can receive some pretty decent monthly bonuses.
Hours can be quite long with almost everyone working at least every other Saturday.  There simply aren't enough people in some very important roles.  There's only 4 or 5 people working tech support and about the same in networking for a company with 320 odd stores across four states with over 900 store employees.  Many of these people regularly work 50+ hours per week.  Store employees it's much the same story.  Turnover in stores is over 60% if I remember correctly, so many locations will end up with only one person to work at them six days per week for months.  Store employees are given a half hour unpaid lunch break while corporate employees are required to sign this BS waiver about how you don't get a required lunch break because they feel the nature of the work lends itself to plenty of break time.  Spoiler alert, it doesn't.  I often worked at the same pace all day not eating lunch at all and only stopping to go to the bathroom a couple times.  In many positions, that can be the norm on busier days.
Some of the policies on the books are downright asinine.  Employees are required to do several hours of "marketing" per week in their own vehicles with no mileage reimbursement.  Better yet, policy says your vehicle is a job requirement and they can fire you for being without it for more than 3 - 5 days. (I forget the exact number)  Only six holidays are observed per year with policy forbidding vacation time around the holidays.  Something about just leaving more work for your coworkers because God forbid any of the stores be closed for more than a day at a time.  Honestly, some of the policy emails that would come out requiring a signature would legitimately make me angry and even does a bit just thinking about it now.  I passed along some of the "better" ones to friends and family who didn't even work there, and they would get a little upset over them too.
Stores are very slapped together with networking cables, routers, switches, modems, cameras, and many other things in absolute rats nests under the counter.  It was almost a daily occurrence that a store had some issue and their internet connection went out as soon as they touched anything.
If you work tech support and a store employee complains about anything you do (that you weren't helpful enough or polite enough or whatever) you're going to be the one in the wrong and get a talking to from the boss about it.  Funny with that whole 60% turnover rate thing I mentioned that store employees are always right.
People's safety was never really much of a concern.  There were at least five robberies at stores while I worked there if memory serves with employees often hurt as a result.  Stores are in basically the cheapest buildings available often in rough neighborhoods and with many almost certainly having mold.  One location in particular in Kentucky had a very bad roof leak and smelled terrible.  The employee who worked there was coughing all day and mentioned being sick often.  I also heard stories from the maintenance guys (who there's only two of by the way) changing billboards by parking a scissor lift on the lift gate of a box truck.  And when they still couldn't quite reach it and called the boss, he told them to put a ladder in the scissor lift.  Insanely dangerous and could end up with someone permanently disabled or dead all to save $150 in not having a local sign company come out with a boom lift.
I don't understand the mindset of the owner after making millions of dollars and becoming one of if not the wealthiest man in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee to worry so much about silly dollars and cents here and there at the expense of his workers.
So, if you just enjoy being underpaid, underappreciated, overworked, and all for the sole purpose of supporting the owner and handful of higher ups making a killing off these roughly 250% APR loans given to people who just don't know any better or just can't help themselves, this is the place.  For myself and many others however, this place simply isn't worth it.

I have only been with the company for about 3 months. In that time I have worked the store more by myself and 6 days a week than I had help in the store. One week out of training, which I discovered was mediocre at best, I was made to run the store by myself with no help. Then I had help for about 3 weeks before my assistant manager up and quit, and I've been running the store by myself eversince. 
Less than 60  days with the company I was TOLD by the DM that I was going to take the store manager position for the store. I was not made an offer, I was not asked if I wanted the position. Business had dramatically dropped due to the pandemic, putting the store 15% on the negative and I was completely blamed and belitted by the DM because I didn't have a magic wand to wave and bring the numbers up overnight. When that didn't work, the RM and President of the company got in on the blame game. Two days after they got in on the blame game, I pulled the store into the positive while the DM took 100% credit for it. Not once was she at the store to try and help pull the company out of the negative, not one single time! 
You WILL use your own personal vehicle for outside marketing for the company WITHOUT anykind of reimbursement for gas, maintenance, or repairs. They will tell you "That's what your monthly bonus is for." Your bonus is what you earn and in the paycheck stub it shows as hours worked, nothing saying its for vehicle maintenance. 
You are assigned weekly marketing tasks by the CEO. On Monday the DM adds 1-2 tasks to your marketing list. Then when the DM saw I was having problems meeting the weekly marketing tasks, she would call the store 3-4 times a week and add more marketing tasks onto the already difficult list. The DM not only expects 1 person to do work of 2 people, she expects 1 person to exceed the work of 2 people. She thinks she is motitaving you to get your tasks done. All she does is creating unneeded frustration, stress, anger and resentment. Four times I went to the RM with these unreasonable expectations, and the DM only got worse. The RM either couldn't or wouldn't deflate the DM's swollen head. You will be expected to stand out on the side of the road with a sign and act like prostituing fool, just to try and get customers into your store.  I had no time to do anything except market when I was at work. I was made to take marketing materials home to make marketing material, which cause problems between my husband and I because that's all I did at home. and NO I was not reimbursed for my time working off the clock. 
On my final day, which was not suppose to be for another 1 1/2 weeks, I noticed a police car out on front of the store with its lights on. I went outside to discover that some had tried to break into the shop next door, the glass ont e front door was busted and boarded up. This spooked me some. Also, the store I was working had been robbed a few months before I started working there. 
I tried to do some roadside sign time, but continuously was looking over my shoulder. I called my DM and said I was going to go do some outside marketing to try and calm my merves because I didn't feel safe in the store by myself. She accused me of wanting to lock the store up all day, never was my intention, and blew off my concerns like it was nothing by telling me "It didn't happen to you. Get over it." It was then I decided that would be my last day.
Anytime a problem came up at the store, the DM's answer was always "Find a way to get it fixed." You will get NO support or help from the DM. You are expected to come out of your own pockets for supplies for the office and to fix problems at the office, WITHOUT reimbursement. You will have no life outside the comapny. The medical insurance isn't worth the money you pay for it. The comapnay has a very high turn over rate. In less than 1 month, the DM has run out 3 people, including myself.  How many more is she gonna run off before the company deflates the beach ball on her shoulders? The comapny could care less about their employees. 

If I were reviewing the work itself and not the position as a whole, I would give high ratings. The work itself is engaging, interesting, fulfilling and teaches you a lot about business and marketing, and dealing with different kinds of customers.

This being said, the work/life balance is ridiculous. They expect you to be (blindly) all about the money. Numbers, numbers, numbers! If this means you will be working 50+ hrs in a week and will have little or no time for anything outside of work, they don't care, they just want it done. And then they will get on your back about working overtime, after expecting a huge amount of work to be accomplished. 

If your store is busy (and that's the way they want it), it's nearly impossible to get it all done in the time they want you to. And if employees are out working to get their marketing work done, then 1 person is left to handle a very busy store and customers start to get very upset at waiting--but if you call the other store workers to come back to help, then they may not get their marketing tasks done for the week.

The sheer amount of work they expect 2 or 3 people to accomplish in a week's time, and somehow not have overtime is crazy.

The money is great, but you work for every single penny of it and then some....and have no time for family along with that.

If you look at the work itself, it's a great job. But add in all the stress and pressure because of having middle management constantly breathing down your back about meeting nearly impossible goals and running a customer-conscious store, and somehow getting their crazy amount of marketing (per employee!) done in a week's time, and you have a job that will put you in an early grave.

This company expects you to be completely devoted to them!! While 2 people are employed at this store, only one is in the office at a time, while the other is expected to be out marketing.  The one in the office has to not only take care of customers, but perform various file audits, print & prepare marketing mail outs, make collections calls, research former customers & try to gather work & home locations to turn them over the the legal dept, mail out past due letters & inactive customer letters, call current customers due that day and the next day, prepare for going out marketing when other employee returns, etc. You almost never get breaks & lunch breaks are scarce, if you have both employees working--if you are by yourself, you probably won't get a lunch break at all

Working for Cash Express is cut throat that's for sure. The marketing is insane when trying to process loans and make three rounds of collection calls per day. It's tacky when you have to lock the office up to go marketing because there should be a employee there all day long to service the  customers. The company does offer several community fundraisers throughout the year but it isn't because they actually care about the community. It's always to benefit them in the newspaper! They are never going to do a charity that goes unnoticed so that they can try to draw in the customers. Turnover is bad with this company and it's because of how loyal employees are treated. They want you to market without compensating for gas mileage and wear and tear on your personal vehicle. The 30 minute lunch break isn't enough to even think about clearing your head from the crazy and insane day to day of finance. The end of the month is AWFUL! They tell you that you can't leave until they tell you that you can which is insane if you have a family or small children at home! Once you do your calls for the day they want you to call other stores customers so the job is NEVER done and NEVER enough!

I worked here for 4 long months.  After you learn all the procedures and legal mumbo jumbo your head wants to explode. This company is a "legal loan shark" company.  If you have the least bit of compassion this job will make you feel horrible about yourself.  The money is good and there is a bonus but you use most of it on upkeep for your car from all the  marketing.  If your store is in a small town the marketing tasks are ridiculous.  You are alone most of the time which is unsafe.  Its all about the money.  If you can't make the most money for your location that they think you should be making, your out.  My DM was really good but that didn't make up for the way upper management treats you.   You are reminded daily over and over how they will terminate you in the blink of an eye.  No matter what you do it's never good enough.   You cannot have anything going on in your life except Cash Express. Be ready to work 10+ hours a day and 6 days week. They want it to be your whole life. The icing on the cake is "sign dancing".  They want you to go out in front of the store and dance around with a sign while wearing a costume to draw in business.  Run far and fast from this company.

The job itself wasn’t hard, I enjoyed the customers but they don’t pay for what they expect from you. They label these jobs as Assistant Manager and Store Manager but you are neither. You are constantly micromanaged, you’re not allowed to make any decisions for your store without calling your DM. You are surveillance on camera daily ( audio as well) and if you say something they don’t like about the company or management your DM will call the store and go off on you. You are expected to use your personal vehicle and gas for marketing with no compensation. It’s not optional. This company does not care about its employees whatsoever.  They send you shopping for charities and such for the community but won’t even buy their employees lunch. Your DM and all upper management is extremely rude and don’t have respect for their employees. The turnover rate is ridiculously high and everything I’ve stated above is why. This company needs to stop and take a look at how they treat people and try to change the way they do things to retain long lasting employees. As long as they keep going the way they are they will never keep good people. 

I have worked at Cash Express for many years and if not for relocating would still work there. As with any job there is going to be ups and downs, likes and dislikes. With Cash Express there are times when management is hard to deal with (especially end of the month when goals are not being achieved as they would like); but for the most part it is a decent company. 

My personal biggest complaint was the marketing and miles/gas used in your personal vehicle. Some days you were required to be out of the store to complete a weekly task of 12 hours. Working in a store with only 2 people present makes it an annoyance for customers, especially on the days only one person worked, you'd still have to close your store for an hour to market or stay after hours to finish. For a company that is all about customer service, this aspect doesn't seem to be on point with that sentiment. 

Bonus program and benefits and competitive pay make this job worth doing.

  I enjoyed the customers but upper management is a joke! Tell you one thing and then say they didn’t say that!! Blame you for the ones hired when they hired them!! Always pointing fingers!! You get sick days but can’t take them without a dr note putting you off!! Upper management goes from store to store talking about others and laughing at them! You market a lot and run your car to death! Horrible place to work!! You live there if someone quits you have to work 6 days a week unless you get approval for coverage which is not very often!! Working there for 2 years and took me that long to realize my boss was using me to get information on other workers!! Yes I am the stupid one for that!!! They gave us a 4.00 raise but 2.00 is only if we get everything done and the other 2.00 is an advancement of our bonus so it really wasn’t a raise they just took it from our bonus!! Hahaha if you have a flat on way to work and late boom no 2.00 raise they take it!! If the bank messes up and your late opening boom no 2.00 raise idk if that’s legal but dang they don’t care!!
