Very great company as a whole...BUT after going through a lengthy interview process of almost 5 people, yes (FIVE PEOPLE) over like a 2 week span and a background check BEFORE your employment, they offer you a position with them and witness you give you your ALL each and EVERYDAY to exceed their expectations as an employee....ONLY to randomly decide to to dig on your previous employment time line of ONE (unorganized) JOB that never had an HR department, but all of a sudden has one to falsely verify your dates so now you’re let go. Not because I’m some sort of criminal or fired (Very great company as a whole...BUT after going through a lengthy interview process of almost 5 people, yes (FIVE PEOPLE) over like a 2 week span and a background check BEFORE your employment, they offer you a position with them and witness you give you your ALL each and EVERYDAY to exceed their expectations as an employee....ONLY to randomly decide to to dig on your previous employment time line of ONE (unorganized) JOB that never had an HR department, but all of a sudden has one to falsely verify your dates so now you’re let go. Not because I’m some sort of criminal or fired (which I’ve never in my life been) But solely because “DATES” don’t align to their liking. They never gave a fair time for me to verify college hours or degree either. In the mist of Covid-19, it was going to take 4-6 weeks for me to retrieve my transcript via mail, but was given like 2 days from someone who was hired shortly after myself. It’s pretty ridiculous how you’re praised daily for your work ethic and do EVERYTHING you’re told, you’re more professional than MOST employees you worked along side, you showed everyone the upmost respect at all times and you completed EVERY job task you were assigned....YET, 2 months in “Your timelines on your resume just don’t add up.” Isn’t that something that should be addressed and BEFORE YOU HIRE SOMEONE? I’m sure there’s more to my “separation from the company” but certain individuals will always pick and choose who they want around, despite their passion and work ethic for the job! When a manager tells you daily “you’re doing great,” “thank you for everything you do,” “you’re catching on great,” and it means NOTHING IN THE END because they let you go because of DATES! If I was ever a manager or CEO of a company, I would want employees that WANT TO work and give their all day in and day out. Not people just trying to collect a check and sit around all day claiming “they’re pretending to work” or “have nothing to do.” Shame! Cover yourself before applying here and make sure your DATES match perfectly!

As the Executive Assistant and Office Manager of Castle Biosciences, Inc. headquarters, I am responsible for wearing many hats.  I work directly under the CFO and closely with the CEO if the company.  I started with Castle Biosciences in the beginning of 2013 as the 8th employee.  I am proud to say that the Castle now has over 75 employees and is preparing to go public within the next 6 months.  

A typical day at the office from me can be anything from scheduling travel arrangements for the executives, coordinating meetings/conference calls, answering payroll questions as well as health benefit questions.  Being that I have been with the company from the beginning, I have acted as our HR department as well. I created our employee hire packet,.as well as preforming the entire process for new hires.  I work directly with our Paychex HR Solutions Specialist to gained as much knowledge as I am able to so that I can provide efficient resource information to our employees.  

I also assist with any job responsibilities and/or projects that our CFO brings to me.  Such as; PowerPoint presentations, legal document compare and review, mail merges and IPO's, Vesting Schedules, Contracts and Service Agreements.   I also make sure the office runs smoothly, that supplies are in stock and scheduling is on time.  I am often called "the face of the company".  I interact well with others and enjoy the logistic side of the company as well 

We are in the process of expanding our office and acquiring 2500 additional sq. ft.  I have been in charge of finding the contractors for the job, space planning, picking out carpet and paint colors.  As I stated in the beginning, I work well under pressure and wearing many hats.  I like a fast paced environment and a challenge.  I work exceptionally well with diversity and to a large training course on conflict managing to resolve any issues that might take place in the office.  

The hardest part of my job is not being able to prepare for what is to come. The challenge with a growing company is that it changes day to day.  However, this is the most enjoyable part of my job as well.

My experience at this company was unfortunately not positive, particularly within the IT department. While some individuals may find success here, I encountered several recurring issues that made it a difficult and discouraging work environment.

There appeared to be a strong presence of favoritism and lack of accountability across teams. Advancement and recognition often seemed tied more to personal relationships than to actual performance or merit. This created an uneven playing field and fostered an environment where some employees were held to different standards than others.

The department lacked consistent leadership. Communication from management was minimal, and feedback was not welcomed in a constructive manner. Innovation and collaboration were often discouraged, which hindered team growth and morale. Several key leadership figures were frequently unavailable, making it difficult to receive support or direction.

Concerns brought to leadership were not always handled appropriately. Although the company promotes an open-door policy, in practice, this did not result in meaningful resolution or follow-through. The absence of an on-site HR presence also limited the ability to address and escalate workplace issues effectively.

In summary, this role did not offer the kind of professional growth or supportive culture I was seeking. Job seekers who value transparency, inclusion, and strong leadership may want to explore other opportunities.

I joined Castle Biosciences in late 2011 and quickly realized that I had been blessed with an extremely special opportunity. The executive team and the CEO, Derek Maetzold, truly care about the employees and make a noted effort to ensure that we feel valued through recognition, incentives and benefits that are unmatched. Castle is an organization that understands the importance of supporting and investing in their staff. We work in an inclusive environment where every opinion is respected and differences are seen as value-adds to group thought. We are empowered to work and think independently and are encouraged to challenge ourselves. Lastly, and most importantly, every day we get to go to work knowing that we get to make a difference in someone’s life. I never want to work anywhere else!

I am grateful every day to work at Castle. The company's culture and values are one of a kind. Not only does the company care about their employees but they truly care about those that will benefit from their products. The CEO and entire management team are simply the best, they are all humble, ambitious, and transparent. You are encouraged to push yourself and move up in the company as most promotions are from within. I have learned so much from working here and always feel like my voice is being heard. I am excited for all the amazing things that Castle will continue to do and I feel honored to be a part of it! 

Bad company to work for.  The company touts they have a great culture.  In fact every meeting they get up on stage and tell you how great the culture is.  Great companies with great culture don't do that.  If you have to consistently tell your sales force you have a great culture then you probably don't.   This company is the good ole boy club.  Almost no diversity.  They want you to bend the knee.  People get fired often and quickly.  Don't question management.  That's also a fireable offense.  Bad management on the division level.  

Colorism, favoritism, they set you up for failure if you dont fit. They dont prepare you. I worked there for 3 months as a CRA entry level. They only gave me studies protocol to read up on, never sent me on a co monitoring visit. They put me in a bunch of remote PSV calls for a study my manager didn't handle and suddenly my manger set me up for a mock SIV that I was never prepared for. The place is a family affair and friends work environment. If you dont fit to their standard or not family run. 

As a part of the job you will be contacting dozens of patients a day to ask them to sign consent forms so the company can file a claim on their behalf (Sketchy). The problem is it's very clear the relatively new management haven't actually done the job because they saddle you with logistically impossible metric expectations. 

-Not to mention the training is spotty at best so you will never be 100% sure on what the correct thing to do is in any given situation.
-The pay is decent but not for the amount of stress they put on their employees.

Wouldn’t recommend. The low stock says it all. This is not a company to work for if you’re someone that cares about giving it your all, quality of work, and integrity. This is a get it done and move on type of company. The culture is horrible, turnover is high (med affairs, marketing, etc). Too many good qualified people have left. 

Castle Biosciences is a very culture & mission driven company that genuinely cares for their employees. Working at Castle for almost 5 years now, I can confidently say that I am a valued employee, who is respected as an individual in a company of 240+ employees. There has never been day that has gone by that I don't wake up and look forward to coming to work. This is my forever career :)
