While working in the heath care profession I was able to assist others with preventative/ restorative care in their lives and the lives of their loved ones.  I enjoyed bringing a since of completeness to the individuals I cared for.. I learned that every scenario is always different no matter how similar the cases may be.  Not all employees are there necessarily for the best interest of the people they were to service, but I could make a difference.  Management was there to make sure all individuals were serviced with the best intentions, and remember to do the job always with a smile. One of the hardest parts of the job was the census we had to follow, if their was not enough patients then workers would be either put on call or call off work for their shift. In my opinion the most enjoyable part of the employment was seeing positive personal growth for the individuals and their families no matter the situation.

Psychiatry specific: Unprofessional management. They are more concerned with wearing cute outfits and knee high leather boots than the safety or welfare of the staff or patients. Any attempt to “listen to staff suggestions” is to keep Magnet happy. Psych administration absolutely will not work the floor and some of the many overpaid administrators do not know the ROOM NUMBERS of the unit! We’re not really sure what some of them do, they stay so well hidden in their offices.
There has been a massive turn over in staff. An unsafe environment combined with understaffing and mostly new staff = gambling with your license. There is a preceptor/mentor program but this is another Magnet requirement, you may never actually work with your preceptor.
Schedule flexibility is a joke, this is one department that does not guarantee PTO. You will not get time off.
There is incredibly poor staff support or skill development... especially for night shift employees. If you need help, call another floor.

I loved working at the hospital for over 10 years.  The last couple of years were very difficult  because of many changes in the organization. I loved my co-workers and I got along well with everyone.  The most enjoyable part of my day was being able to help elderly people get to the department they needed to go to. They were always so sweet and appreciative.  It's also one of the hardest parts of the job because the patients might be in the ER struggling to hold on to life or the saddest is when elderly are there and have no family members or friends with them.  I enjoyed working at the hospital.

What is the best part of working at the company?
For 28 years it was pretty good with the old management, then the new management broke every promise and threw me away. Did me a huge favor cause I now have an awesome job not at CVHS.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Too much managerial deadwood for the workers to support, 12 vice presidents is just unbelievable. You can’t even count the number of clinical nurse managers that are non-productive.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Mostly hostile, management has time to have fund raisers and celebrations while the working employees work through lunch cause the management is always missing.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long, hectic and exhausting for productive employees.

This is a great place to learn. Management doesn’t train well at all and people pretend to be your friend even when they’re really not. People would come to me and tell me things said about me that I would never have expected alsona colleague deliberately sabotaged me getting an advancement opportunity by pulling him into the safe room and telling lies. The business side definitely lacks professionalism and all could use some re education. The staff that has some tenure isn’t very friendly at all except 3rd shift employees with a select few on 2nd. I had experience and was paid $2 less an hour than someone with no experience that was a veteran.

Working nights for over 2 years in psychiatry has been my first job as an RN. The training for new grads is very helpful and the staff come together to assist you during difficult patient encounters. There is a team work atmosphere that is obvious most nights I work, making me feel proud to be part of the team. Most staff really love their job which makes for a pleasant work environment, amidst the challenges that come from working with the patient population we do. I feel that I work on the best floor of the hospital and feel that as an RN, I really am making a positive difference in patient's lives.

I have worked at CVMC for the past 13 years and have enjoyed everyday of it.  As all places, CVMC has its own way of providing care to the community.  I believe that is the reason I have stayed at the facility for as long as I have because they do so much for the community with support groups and community health fairs.  The hospital staff are friendly and open to helping everyone succeed as a whole organization.  The benefits, PTO, extra activities they provide to staff make up for the compensation of a small community hospital.  Our facility is still one of only 3 stand alone hospitals in North Carolina and only a few left that still provide education assistance/reimbursement.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Excellent pay and benefits enjoyed working with different people. Also job could be challenging but I still enjoyed working at CVMC.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes working in the cafeteria could be overwhelming just needed more teamwork. But still enjoyed working there.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment was pleasant meeting new people and getting to know them, also enjoyed learning different task. But at times it could get stressful.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stayed busy working and learning new task, enjoyed meeting and talking with staff members.

Overall good place to work for a community hospital setting. Have moderately complex patient population to care for, so if coming from bigger facilities this will not feel bad at all. 

Biggest issue for this organization is so much of the management team has never worked anywhere else besides for this organization. Therefore there is minimal innovation or forward thinking based on outside knowledge. They often promote from within for leadership, even if the person is hardly qualified for their new job.

I've worked here and learned the proper techniques to collect specimens. Typical day at work, I come into work and stock my cart ready for the nights work. Working weekends on 3rd shift, there is only another person and myself who has the responsibility to draw blood on a timely matter. This include ER to all the hospital levels 1-7. Co-workers are awesome plus I'm an easy person to get along with. Hardest part of the day is knowing you have a hard patient to draw from. But, it's also the most enjoyable because we're able to collect the specimen knowing our duties will save the person life.
