Although I work with patients and not with customers the thought of it is exactly the same. You are looking to satisfy the patient/ customers. This includes the family that comes in with the patients before they head into surgery as well as post op, when they come to visit. I learned that working with others is very interesting. You learn about others opinions and what they have learned in the past that make them a better person today. You learn about new techniques that you can apply to help the patient feel like they're at home. Management is taken very seriously because you are working with people, you need to be professional. The management department is always on top of executing an outstanding outcome for the patient while they are in our facility as well as post op. This includes follow up calls, and making sure that everything is okay. My co-workers are like my family! We all get along great and in a life or death situation communication is key to ensure a safe environment for the patient. There is no hard part in this job. You have duties that need to be completed at the end of each shift but your main priority is the patient and their status on how they are doing. It is an everyday to day experience, you always have to be on your feet and think fast because you never know what comes through the Emergency Room and up into the Operating Room. You have to know where things are and know how to multi task and have great communication with others. You need to learn how to work in groups or individually because sometimes the help you need is not always there because of short staff. The most enjoyable part of my job is to see the patient and family happy. I don't consider it a job, I consider it a life changing experience to help others!

Overall Mercy was a pleasant atmosphere to work in. Clean and reasonably paced patient schedule. I enjoyed working for and with the Radiologists. The most rewarding aspect of being a mammo tech is servicing the public. I enjoy working with patients giving them the utmost patient care making sure their experience is as pleasant
as possible with the ensuing breast exam. On the contrary, the management team was not the most proficient; there were constant inconsistencies in protocol and unfortunately coming from different sources. Scheduling of breast biopsies was unfair to both the patient and the mammo tech and at times the surgeon involved. I recall patients waiting up to an hour or more before the biopsy ensued due to the surgeon and/or radiologist delay. This further added to patient anxiety knowing a breast biopsy is forthcoming. As a result the mammo techs often did not get adequate time to eat lunch also. I don't believe the mammo tech should have had to run specimens to the lab. A designated lab asst. should collect from all departments that require specimen analysis. Ultimately, I found a place to work with reliable adept management, steady hours including lunch breaks and a higher salary. It however, was a pleasure working close to home and having my weekends off. Being a graduate of the MMC School of Radiography in Aug 2000, I would have loved to have continued working for Mercy. Ironically due to a lay off in 2009 at my former place of employment, I am currently seeking full or even part time employment now in mammography. It is my passion but I have been unfortunate in doing so in today's economy.

I have been a cook close to 10 years now,and have never run into what I ran into ,while working at Catholic health. . A typical day was you got there early, 6-2 usually was the shift. Started breakfast, once breakfast was served it went pretty fast to where you can get the hang in less than a day or two. 
After breakfast you take out dirty pans, bring them to dish room, then start on lunch.. it is mainly heating up items that are pre made..not actually cooking.. 
You follow recipes in a recipe book by weeks,1-2-3 and repeat once week 3 is complete. . Once lunch is served you help a bit until another aid comes to relieve you of your cooking duties..then you start on your prep for the next day.. 
Which usually consist of pulls and getting your things ready for the next meals.. 
What is expected of you is a bit ridiculous tho..and makes cooking)working there tough with no real sense of what you should be doing, you get lost a lot of the time.. 
Managers are usually there but are either to busy to help, or just tell you to look it up in the recipe book. /: 
I was lost a lot of the time, and being new felt I didn't get the help I needed.. the recipe book was confusing at times and with no one to explain in, I sorta winged it a lot of the time while I worked. 
Breaks are 15 and 30 mins which is nice, but with so much prep to be done...breakfast,lunch,dessert and meal for next day it was tough to take them at times.. and on one occasion I got yelled at cause I did not take my break. 
Overall I would not want to work here again.. tho people were nice to me, the overall concept of the job felt not like a cooking job...more a high school cafeteria job /: which may be fore some but not me. 

Receive report at 0700. Going and introduce myself to patients. review their chart and care plan. Discuss with patient and partner what their expectations and desires are for the labor and inform patient what I can do. Evaluate patient every 30minutes which includes charting of fetal heart rate and contractions as observed for external monitor and observing and talking to patient. Assist anesthesiologist with labor epidural if requested. Assist with delivery of baby with vaginally or surgically. I have learned one cannot always count of help in my unit when needed. My nurse manager is available at all times and do address any problems within a timely manner. She is a guide for the unit and wants the nurses to make decisions concerning the running of the unit. Unfortunately the nursing staff is so ingrained not to change there is no staff movement to do so. My co-workers a difficult group of women to work with They are very set in their ways which means progress in patient care is slow to change. The nurses are very judgemental  of other nurses. The physician nurse relationship is one of disrespect or not caring for most of the nursing staff and the physicians. The  most enjoyable part of my job is the birth of a new life.

Working in this clinic at Mercy Medical Center was challenging in negative ways. They offered several services to patients which is nice but very disappointing at the same time. The clinic lacked organization in many different areas in running the clinic. The person registering the patients was responsible in checking everyone in which was fine but lacked sense and knowledge because there was more than one services running on a regular basis. Which made that persons job much harder. Also the schedule was over booked on a regular basis. They would book 4-5 even 7 people to one time slot. That’s not patient care neither logical thing but it’s happening. Patients would wait for hours sometimes. Not enough pediatric physicians in staff to see patients. The management yelled at employees in front of patients which made it very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Not much team work with the girls in the registration area they all did there own thing. The person who is registering all patients ended up doing most check out as well on top of checking everyone in. Also having to answer the phones at the same time and also booking appointments. Documentation was down poorly. Only certain things were put into charts which made it difficult trying to figure out if something was really done. A lot of things were just by verbal.  There is a lot of things they need to do to actually fix a lot of the issues on running operations at the clinic. Management needs to step it in many ways to fix it.

A typical day includes being dangerously short staffed, management will state "we are doing the best we can" many patients are aggressive and no provisions are made to keep staff safe. Security guards are far and few within the hospital ,they are  elderly and useless in crisis. Detox patients now  overrun their units and the staff is always in critically dangerous situations. Management uses bullying tactics and are not resources as many of them have limited nursing experience and limited degrees. The hardest part of the job is having detox patients at overwhelming numbers mixed into medical patient loads. The staff moral is depressingly low and many burn out quickly. There is absolutely  no room to advance other then possibly switching between the few units. But management and leadership jobs are extremely limited. There is ONE MSN degree between the whole nurse educator team. The hardest part of the job is watching the same twelve "leadership" position employees  receive made up awards for "their hard work".  I have learned get in and get your experience and get out asap for a supportive magnet hospital. The pay is decent and the benefits are great. The staff is truly kind. I always enjoyed my co-workers. The worst part of the job is management ignores your positive ideas for cost effective change. The directors should join undercover bosses on TLC.

My experience at Catholic Health has been quite challenging, primarily due to management practices and workplace culture. The leadership often resorts to fear and harassment as motivational tools, which creates a stressful environment. Micromanagement is pervasive and counterproductive, leading to inefficiency and frustration.

The atmosphere is such that speaking up about issues can lead to retaliation, which discourages open communication and problem-solving. Opportunities for career advancement are minimal, and there is a noticeable lack of respect from management toward employees. Training is insufficient, and the staffing levels are inadequate to handle the workload effectively. Additionally, excessive and unproductive meetings further hinder progress.

On a positive note, the organization offers a competitive salary and a generous time-off policy. There are also some exceptional co-workers, and the shared challenges have fostered strong bonds among the staff.

If you are considering a position at Catholic Health, be aware that it may be more suitable for short-term experience rather than long-term career development. The environment may not align with Catholic values or provide the support and respect you might expect. If you’re looking to build a career in a more supportive and respectful setting, it might be worth exploring other opportunities.

The typical day I had at St. Charles Hospital was busy, always moving, and when you weren't moving, you were thinking about what you could do to prepare for the nest rush of people. You always had to be one step ahead of your game, because you could have curve balls thrown at you at any given time. I learned about time management. How to prioritize jobs, and solutions, especially in a high stress situation, but also making sure co-workers and customers were happy with the decision made. I also learned how to work fast paced but get the job done in a timely and efficient manner, with no loose ends. The management was interesting- there were some areas that they could have improved, but they were always trying to make the work environment tolerant for their employees to the best of their abilities...sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I made some great friends out of the co-workers I used to work with. Most of them pulled together to help one another out. The hardest part of the job was when they were at one point constantly changing rules in a particular area, and how things needed to be done. If you thought you were doing something right, something would change at a moments notice. Not that it was a bad thing, you need to be able to adapt to changes, but there also needs to be stability in there too. The most enjoyable part of the job was how fast the day would go. Before you know it, it was time to go home.

Worked the overnight shift for nearly 7 years on various units.
Regular themes:
-Short staffing resulting in dangers to patients as well as employees.
-Co workers with low morals & ethics.  Constant gossip among peers about anything and everyone, including patients .
-Racism. As a non Caucasian employee it was fairly obvious among some 'professional' co workers that non whites did not fit into their culture. 
- frequent & blatant violations of infection control by staff nurses ( such as Moving from one isolation room to another without changing gowns/ PPE, changing sterile dressings without sterile gloves, etc.) 
- Lack of teamwork amongst staff, some of whom thought they were above & beyond providing basic care to patients, deligating simple tasks such as issuing bed pans to patients to unlicensed assistive personnel, even if it meant leaving patients waiting for 20, 30 minutes & essentially soiling themselves. 

Management sat in their ivory towers pushing paper as they continue to still do, caring very little about what truly goes on the units except in terms of bed capacity & profits..

The hardest part of the job was dealing with all of the above.  The most enjoyable was the paycheck.  But at the end of the day no paycheck is worth losing your peace of mind over.  I'm glad to be away from that place.

Working for the hospital is like walking a tight rope without a net, you never know what direction the wind will blow, but rest assured when it does you will get knocked over.  Also Management can fire you for any reason at any time with or without notifying you as to why, despite having a policy and procedures book with specific steps to take for employee discipline. Management often cares more about small stuff while ignoring the glaring big stuff. The issues we had in nursing was always having staffing problems while being told to continue working as if we were at the correct staffing ratios. Since you are working with people, sometimes they and their families would, understandably, get upset with staff's lack of response time to the call bells. Upper management would rather look at the staff as the problem rather than the lack of staff itself. As a staff member, you feel like you get more criticism from management than support. Weekends typically run short, people always call out ensuring that for the 12 and half hours you'll feel like your working almost alone and depending on when breaks happen, you could be.  The salary is pretty good and oh yeah they like to celebrate nurses/healthcare appreciation with free food and a company logoed tote bag.....
