Performs a variety of direct patient care activities which fall within the scope of LNA practice as defined by the State Board of Nursing and Catholic Medical Center Nursing Organization policies and procedures. Utilizes basic knowledge of growth and development and awareness of age-appropriate care, to provide care for patients across the life span. Assists the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or physician to perform selected patient care activities or tasks as appropriate. Reports all observations, symptoms, deviations from normal, and changes in patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse. Performs patient rounds, responds to patient call bells promptly and communicates with appropriate staff to meet patient needs. Provides basic support to patients and families in response to identified psychosocial needs and cultural and religious preferences. Performs or assists patient in the completion of activities of daily living. Assists nursing staff with patient ambulation, transfers, range of motion and repositioning as required. Anticipates patient needs and asks patient about the need for toileting, fluid, nutrition, and comfort measures. Maintains patient privacy and dignity. Participates in admitting patient by bringing patient to room and orients patient to surroundings. Documents in selected areas of the medical record, as appropriate, according to policies and procedures. Performs 12-lead Electrocardiograms (EKG) as directed. Assists with patient transport as required and assist in transporting/obtaining medications, specimens, blood products, and patient care supplies as needed. Ensures safe patient movement by utilizing appropriate lifting equipment/transfer devices. Collaboratively works with multidisciplinary team, maintains good communication; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with patients and families, co-workers, and the public. Ability to demonstrate courtesy, compassion and respect in relating to patients, families, visitors, physicians and coworkers.

After years of consistent change in its leadership, its the employees who suffer the consequence of the poor and ever changing leadership! Not what is was. Benefits annually get worse and worse with increase in costs and deduction in services offered. Compensation adjustments at a mere 3% if you are an employee who kisses enough rump. If you're like the majority of the staff please enjoy the 2% meets expectations increase which will not even make up for the difference in the increase in benefit costs. Sure they offer a wide variety insurance options from Long term disability, Short term disability, vision, dental and medical..... but you only make out with medical if you don't mind having your peers know you business as it is strongly suggested (PUSHED) that you have services at the facility. After nearly 10 years of service, a member of senior management shared that longevity is a thing of the past and all employees are replaceable. If you have RN behind your name, well this is a different  path! You can do no wrong, you'll get all the attention and according to this organization you are the only ones that matter! Annual adjustments to stay competitive in the market  and an over the top celebration for ONLY nurses during nurses week. It is clear that senior leadership believes that only nurses are important in this organization..... unless... you happen to be a nurse who works off site!!  Well then you will enjoy being swept under the carpet!!!

A typical day at work began in the morning when I would arrive at the hospital, sign in, get my hospital scrubs to wear while I performed my daily work duties, grab the pager that was assigned to me for the day, and say hello to my co-workers. I was assigned to clean the operating rooms between cases. I learned how very important infection control is and how important it is that everyone adheres to the hospital's universal precaution policies and safety policies.
I had good communication with my manager and we got along very well. I enjoyed working there and most of my co-workers were friendly and had warm personalities. They seemed to look out for each other and offered help when needed.
When things were slow and there weren't any cases in the operating room, I would be assigned to clean floors, windows, bathrooms, the nurses and doctors lounges, dusting, and patient rooms after they were discharged. I liked performing those job duties. Working in the operating rooms was more stressful because I had a shorter time span to clean each room to get it ready for the next case. When I clean, I am thorough and like to do the job to the best of my ability, but I found this to be difficult while under a tight time constraint. I did the best I could under the circumstances.
I think the most enjoyable parts of the job were my co-workers and how they could make the job fun, and the delicious food in the cafe.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The patients are the sweetest! The surgeons at vein and vascular are very helpful. Anytime I had a question or wanted to learn more of the in depth details about a procedure they were eager to teach me.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being way over worked and therefor way underpaid! Being understaffed is one thing but expecting your current staff to work 2-3 full time jobs in an 8 Hr shift and to expect perfection and joy is unacceptable. And buying them a sandwich does not make it all better. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful environment for sure. The staff does stick together though for the most part. It’s the management that doesn’t manage or take time to really help or understand the situations at hand. How can you manage a practice if you’re not there, in an office behind a closed door and openly dismiss your staff by means of “listening” with no action to help. Telling them to “get your sh** together” doesn’t help or motivate either.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely busy! Answering 3 phones that are all active at once, checking patients in and out while processing referrals, responding to emails, assisting other staff with questions, scheduling procedures, answering patient questions, etc.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people I was privy to working with everyday. The hard working nurses, docs, admins, sanitary workers etc. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are always stressful times when you work in healthcare, but I feel the most stressful times were when leadership committed to deliver in to many projects at once and expected the worker bees to add even more to their already overwhelming work loads. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
CMC is what it is because of the amazing people that work there. Everyone shares the same passion to care and excel in patient care. Unfortunately, with any company their politics and goals to be all things to all people makes for a very trying environment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Varied from day to day, you never know what you’re going to walk into and you prepare yourself for whatever is thrown at you.

As an employee of catholic medical center I only have positive things to say about the establishment as a whole. On the other hand specifics about patient population and nurse to patient ratios were not clearly laid out in the interview. The unit I was hired to work on is very fast paced, high acuity patients as well as having a very short turn over rate for staff (6-18 Mo.) Management does well with supporting staff as best they can. At times the staff feel pressure from superiors about taking inappropriate patient assignments when not the staff are not properly trained for the care that patient may need. Constant pressure to pick up additional shifts or extend work hours, short staffed, but from other nurse's I have spoken to in other areas of nursing, this is a constant anywhere you go.

Great work atmosphere...can honestly say everyone genuinely cares for one another. Not one person that I dislike. Can be a little clique at times. Staff are mostly quite young with not  many years under their belt. Sometimes it feels as though management makes everything seem rosey when most work processes need more attention. Work flow can be quite overwhelming. When suggestions are offered on how to make things better they are often ignored. Feels as though would rather keep things the same instead of trying new ways to make things easier. Also sometimes can be too many chefs in the kitchen. Everyone needs to know everything even if they have no reason to be involved. Management is not always very helpful in those situation but maybe after some more years of experience that will change?

No leadership, there’s lack of experience, which the ego of your director puts you in the crosshairs 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is toxic, if you complain, they find a way to let you go. They don’t address the real problems within departments or they just choose to look the other way and not investigate, till something comes out in the papers

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day is having meetings about meetings and then being micromanaged. Then waiting for leadership to make a decision and having another meeting and a meeting about that meeting.

The work itself (answering phones, taking notes, checking in/out patients) was fine and the immediate supervisors and office managers are great people to work with. The practice management was the problem. I requested to transfer to a different department for ethical reasons and my manager gave me the runaround. She told me that she was coordinating the transfer when in fact she was trying to come up with a way to convince me to stay in her department. Because none of this was communicated to me, I started looking for another job. I know that I am not the only person who thwarted in attempting to transfer to a different department.

The benefits are good and they kick in right away, so if you can put up with some frustrating management practices and want to be in healthcare, it's not the worst.

The Staff in the respiratory department was welcoming and always checked up on their team mates. Work hard and present your best foot and they will support you the way they support them

The distance of travel for me. Otherwise there was little stress at the facility

It was really good with supportive coworker and management. Miss working there but life took me in a different direction

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Shift started at 0600. Floors assigned and when your work was finished you checked in on your coworkers to see how they were doing and if they needed help. Usually gathered for lunch and the afternoon rounds and report. Shift ended at 1830
