Cboe Global Markets

I worked at Cboe Global Markets for 9 years as a contractor.  Though I really wanted to be an official part of the company, more times than not, I was given the run-around.

That was before the Chicago Board Options Exchange bought the BATS Exchange, and both were rebranded as Cboe Global Markets.

This culture is more streamlined: 1 person at Cboe is expected to do the job of 3-4 people at the former CBOE.  Not good.  Not bad.  Just what it is.

When I left, there were people who were salty, and those that were hopeful.  I believe the C-Suite Execs have more on the ball as it pertains to running a business in 2018: that if the employees are happy, then as a positive consequence, the customer will be happy.

At the Chicago office, they have a true cafe, with trained baristas making coffee drinks, teas, and they have some pastries there as well.  The hot coffee and tea is free and is AWESOME (coming from a coffee snob).  They also have free breakfast bars and goodies, and their employees breakfast (for 3rd Shift) and lunch on Wednesdays.  The Lenexa, KS office has free lunch for their staff everyday. 

Cboe also has a rec room to take a break with a couple of ping pong tables, shuffleboard, pinball, skee-ball, air hockey, 2 arcade consoles, and TVs to play Nintendo Switch or to watch the news.  The room also has a couple of meeting areas to gather in.

Of my position, the hardest part was working 3rd shift for only a paycheck, and knowing that I was never going to be a hired employee of the company...just a contractor.  I enjoyed most of the people that I worked with, and those that I didn't, probably won't be around for too much longer.

if you are in any kind of clerical/ font desk/ administrative position for this company just quit while you are ahead. Management for HR department is horrific. you will become their minion with no kind of positive acknowledgment for any of the hard work that you do. They will tell you they need something done by 3pm, then the director would come by just couple hours later to see if you did it for them. Why give a time frame if you want it done ASAP? Why not just be upfront and say asap..? ;/ They say one thing but actually mean another. Also, they will give you the most generic task/ project to do, and then get upset/ unsatisfied when its not done a specific way (aka their way to the T.) With their extremely nit-picky attitude and no positive reinforcement what so ever, you lose all encouragement. (but then they want to ask you, why you seem so discouraged.. LOL) HR TEAM.. YOU HAVE TO DO BETTER ! -Respectfully

I acted as a web intern for this previous summer and it was very rewarding! My manager and team cared about me as a person and were encouraging of my learning. I learned a lot of wisdom and was challenged in my programming skills. There was a good balance of laid back training as well as intensive learning. I ran into a problem where I was concerned I was being paid less than a male coworker for the same job although it was a miscommunication based on year in school. Both HR, my team, and management dealt with the concern very well as they were encouraging and had my back. I hope to continue with Cboe after graduation since it is a wonderful environment full of mentors and friends.

Managed day-to-day data center operations, IT hardware and trading applications deployment, system monitoring and support, server maintenance and upgrades. I learned to manage projects while working with staff across the organization to accomplish common goals. The hardest part of the job was determining the causes of systems outages when multiple environments and applications were affected. I enjoyed working with multiple teams on projects and the satisfaction of completing the tasks at hand.

It USED to be an awesome place to work with great benefits. It was a very laid back environment but the employees were productive and took pride in their work. Many of the employees had been there for years so it had a family feel.

Everything is great at Cboe. Free food and snack.Seasonal events. Great initiative programs. Management varies. Some have nice mentorship, some don't. 
Life work balance. Works are not difficult. Most people are nice.
Executives are very friendly. CEO cares everybody.

A typical work day/evening can be stressful on some days. Micromanage!

It's very hard and difficult to work with a shadow/blanket on you back.
Very Very Hard.

And with the nepotism it's very hard to over come!

My experience at Cboe truly could not have been better. The people there were some of the kindest, friendliest, and most supportive people I've ever met. The intern development program is top-of-the-line as well. If you get the chance to work for this company, DO IT! 

I worked at Cboe 30 years plus I’m happy to state that I never had a personal complaint with my management team or coworkers  it was a challenging and rewarding experience

Small tight-knit work environment where everyone shares the same goal - success for CBOE.

Management is involved in the day-to-day operations and pitch in when real-time problems occur.
