The only good thing is that they always have positions available because people quit a lot now. It was a really good company when I first started. This was back when it was Human Arc, before it was sold to Centauri. Now it’s completely unbearable. They have terrible benefits, they cap the PTO (although, they would argue that they did not cap the PTO, it just doesn’t go up until after you’ve worked there for 10 years. Which is the same thing because who sticks around for 10 years when the benefits are so terrible?) They believe that a reasonable annual raise is $0.32. Then they give you such a hard time if you dare to ask for more. They are super numbers and benchmark focused which is unrealistic considering the pool you have to work from. They do offer incentives but they constantly move the goal post and change the rules if you earn too many bonuses. They’re always asking for insight on how they can improve the call center but whenever you bring anything up they hide behind statements like “it’s what the client wants” to justify them not making any changes at all. They will bring up how we surpassed our goal and we made so much money and then instead of giving us a decent raise they think that we would be impressed by a pizza party (because apparently we’re in the third grade.) Centauri gradually got rid of the things that may working at Human Arc worth it. We used to get bonuses around the holidays, they think a bonus is hot cocoa in the break room. There’s always cocoa in the break room I guess the bonus is that they make it instead of you doing it yourself? We used to do a lot of really fun community outreach and volunteer events that you got paid for participating in, they cut those. They hire terrible team leads and managers who leadership style is basically just bullying. They have these fake promotions which is really just you doing the job that you had been doing with additional task that your manager should be doing for no additional compensation. as a whole the entire company has declined greatly. 

Job description is below, but the main gist of this work is that, although it can be very rewarding helping people to collect disability benefits over the phone, it can also be emotionally taxing as people tell you the hardships of how their disabilities affect their ability to function in life.  Many stories are heartbreaking and humbling.  This is one of the best call center jobs that I have had, as I learn a lot of new information about medical conditions everyday, and most people are grateful for what you do for them.  The two things that need major work at this company are the compensation, management improvement, and the auditing standards are not always clear.  I feel that all of the managers are not on the same page when it comes to how the teams are run.  The second thing is that, although you get bonuses on top of your pay, sometimes the call qualify and the everchanging auditing standards for calls do not always support receiving bonuses every month.  On top of that, when I started 4 years ago the pay started around 16.50 per hour.  And now,  4 years later, WITH a promotion and 7 or 8 pay raises later, I have STILL not even reached the $19 per hour mark.  The pay, lack of consistent management input, and everchanging auditing standards to bonus, topped with the emotional stress of this job, is making it impossible for me to continue here.  I will literally be paying out of pocket for my loyalty to this company if I stay another 3 years.  

A typical day at work involves mostly inbound calls, with outreach about 30% of the time at most.  Calls typically last between 30 minutes to an hour and consist of interviewing claimants or parents of claimants with disabilities to collect information about how disabilities affect their daily lives.  The information is weighed against Social Security disability standards to identify which claimants are likely to qualify.  If they are likely to qualify by SSA's standards, I then complete an online social security disability application for the claimant over the phone. 

I fully believe in the mission of the company.  They have a win-win-win philosophy meaning no party in the transaction gets screwed.  However, the company doesn't point that into their employees.  Many of the service line managers and mid management lack the ability to foster personal and professional growth.  They give you vague direction on how to improve but don't give direction on how to do that.  Change there is chaotic and often mismanaged.  

It is a call center environment and they moved up the transition to another phone system a month with no implementation plan and it cost the company millions and one department of over a hundred people lost about 40 percent of its workforce in one quarter.  The phone system is designed for outbound calling campaigns.  We don't use campaigns, but rather just a lot of people that use phones.  The system crashes on a regular basis.  We have to dial in and use flip phone style voicemail when it used to be emailed to us.  When the contract went up, we just renewed it despite no users liking it.

The next year, they made another chaotic change to the internal database system that wasn't properly beta tested.  They make significant changes with little thought to the consequences.  At the same time, we are micro-managed by people who don't know their jobs; having to report every detail of what we do.  As Team Leaders, we are not allowed to make independent decisions within guidelines.  We aren't given guidelines.  We aren't asked for input until decisions have been made and then we are responsible to keep up morale which is difficult with constantly changing circumstances.  

On top of that, we have high cost health plans and are underpaid.  Due to that, we are constantly hiring.  We are also getting a lot more new clients, but we have trouble keeping individuals employed and there is little institutional knowledge.  This place is a good place to work because of the people that work there, the great friendships and the type of work we do.  But after a while, it grinds on you and you want to end up leaving.  

Be cautious.

For the first two and a half years that I worked there everything was great I was meeting all of my metrics with no problem and receiving bonuses all of the time. I got moved up to a DS2. I was training people that were getting hired and doing special projects that my TL would give me. Management changed and then they changed a lot of other things so many things that I felt like I was learning a whole new job. The new management wanted things done in a certain order which did slow me down because I was used to my routine. My metrics were not being met anymore and neither were a lot of the people in the company there were a lot of complaints about that. I feel like I gave this company my all I worked overtime for about a year straight to try to help everybody get caught up. I was given more than expected of a raise in the beginning of April for performance. On April 14th I was fired for performance reasons and when I asked for proof of this or to see a printout of something that shows the alleged numbers I was told that this is property of centauri and that they don't have to provide that to me. I was not written up at all before I was fired. They didn't try to work with me to see if I could work in a different department or anything that I thought that they would do for an employee that has done as well as I have at that company. I'm very disappointed in this company and I can't help but feel like I wasted my time. Clearly they only care about their numbers and not about their employees. I was switched teams two times in that month and both of the TLs that I had were condescending and rude. They were also very clicky so they got along with certain people on the team much better and that makes it uncomfortable for the rest of the people. I would not recommend this place for anyone unless you're okay with being overloaded and underappreciated while being micromanaged.

Working from home and being comfortable in your own space.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They ONLY thing this company care about it is numbers and money. You are expected to work like a robot the entire shift. They watch you like a hawk and care NOTHING about you as a person. No one is ever available to help you just criticize you. There is absolutely NO TEAM work or organization. You are EXPECTED to sell the claimants and do whatever you can to keep them on the phone, even if you have to lie to them. This company just wants to take a portion of people Social security benefits at any cost,Stay FAR AWAY. You make this company hundreds of dollars of dollars ( each employee), close to a million and they have the adacity to come up with an excuse EVERY MONTH why you DIDN'T bonus. Greedy, lying, unethical and STRESSFUL company. Read their reviews on BBB they have a 1 and even registered.  Please read their reviews, just a horrible place.

Stressful and no wants to help just sit around and micromanage. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
STRESSFUL, like you work at am auction. The entire chat and email is about numbers (money), how much we have made for the day and how much more we need by the end of the day.

Human Arc once lived its mission, vision and values everyday.  However, the company has been sold and a corporate mentality has now forced a "profits above all else" mantra that has lowered morale amongst employees and has lowered the quality of services to clients and members.  This is a great place for a new graduate to get a start in the industry, but its really little more than a glorified call center now, and most associates move on after a few years.  Once associates start to get too specialized (i.e. they cost too much) they are forced out.  The pay and benefits are industry standard, and the working conditions are standard "Office Space" (cubicles, small cafeteria/lunch room, etc.).  Do not expect additional amenities or perks in the office.  Like many, many companies, there are several redundant levels of poorly-trained middle management that contradict each other, as there is a constant rush to promote associates to a level of middle management since its really the only career advancement offered here.  Once you become a "Team Leader" or "Senior Rep", there is really no where to go.

I would not recommend this company to high performing individuals who are looking for growth, fairness, and strong leadership. In my experience, strong performance was not meaningfully recognized with advancement. Despite consistently delivering results and being kept in the same role for nearly 6 years, promises of future opportunities never materialized. The company repeatedly communicated that growth was possible, but those conversations did not translate into real career progression. Leadership is poorly equipped to handle accountability and employee concerns. When concerns about retaliatory behavior from a leader were raised, HR does not provide any support. Instead, situations are handled in a way that makes the employee feel blamed rather than protected. The company struggles with leadership competence, follow-through, and creating a fair environment for employees who go above and beyond. High performers may find themselves over-relied on, under-advanced, and unsupported when legitimate concerns are raised. There are individuals in roles that do not fit their education or experience.

I worked at this company for six years, including a few months as a temp. Before the pandemic, it was a great place to work—fun office environment, supportive management, holiday parties, and even occasional breakfasts. They’re flexible with schedules and offer plenty of overtime opportunities, which is a big plus.

But things changed during the pandemic. The sense of community disappeared. No more celebrations, bonuses became rare, and upper management felt distant. I worked hard and got promoted four times, but when I was ready for a leadership role, favoritism held me back.

The company’s different service lines don’t work well together, and the call center staff is overworked with little empathy or support. Premium Assist was great at first, but over time, the demands grew without fair pay or incentives.

If you want stability and flexibility, this place might work for you. But if you’re looking to grow your career, it’s not the best fit

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at Centauri is the fact that we're truly helping people with our services and not trying to simply upsell any products that they don't need. Also, the fact that the company gives volunteer time so that we can continue to contribute to our own charitable organizations without missing unexcused time from work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes hearing the struggles of the callers can be stressful but it balances out when we're able to offer hope that they had no knowledge of.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Working from home takes away the strain of the morning commute that I used to dread in previous positions.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Answering calls and self directing to the proper business or referrals to their health plans for services that they are not aware of.

I really like & appreciate Centauri. I am a contract coder hired in July . I appreciate the steady paycheck BUT they will NOT tell you when the project ends! So I'm always in limbo. Ive made it to November so anything after Thanksgiving will be a blessing. I hope they ask me back next season that would be soooo great! You are put on different coding projects during sweeps about 5 different ones. It's better that we can watch the training videos and read the materials you will be fine.  The managers are so pleasant. They have to be more mindful to avoid the term "ladies" all the time as men work there also. I had a wonderful Team Lead that allowed us to work a very flex schedule. That helped me sooo much. So somedays I worked days some days I worked overnights. This company does not do overtime for coders so don't expect it at all. Just work your full 40 hrs to make max money. You cannot print out any training materials or send them to yourself. Please do not do that, they will let you go.
