What is the best part of working at the company?
The retail team was great and made lots of connections with my coworkers. Lacked internal promotions.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Wasn't stressful really besides dealing with unhappy customers and being on the front-line of preventing fraud.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is great! People are friendly and I had fun while at work with my coworkers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clock in, prep the the cash drawer and pull up systems, open the branch for customers, run transactions and file and organize paperwork, answer customer calls and problem solve, greet customers and get them to the correct banker if they have a meeting, close the inside of the bank, continue transactions through the drive through window, close the branch and set security system. There is also reconciliation and auditing scheduled throughout the day.

Started as floating manager and upon soliciting two commercial checking accounts at the Chestnut Hill Branch was transferred to the  Main Office in Davis Square, Somerville, MA as permanent Manager.

The Loan Servcing Department had some issues with real estate tax department.  The Executive Vice President that I had worked for in the past at another bank sent me downstairs to that department to correct the problems and I also exposed other issues.  He believed I could improve the situation.  In the end I was the one who was in charge of that department.  I was working in conjuction with the Commercial Loan Department and Mortgage Origination Department.

What is the best part of working at the company?
location to my home -  work environment was not very pleasant.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
lack of consistency and training for staff regarding compliance requirements for loans.  Lenders were very pushy to get their transactions done and did not want to hear about any delays that were law related that would slow down their closings

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
disappointing-  not welcoming at all to new people from the outside

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In general it was long and frustrating.

Certain executive personnel are closed to communication from staff and dictatorial and demanding to others. The CFO considers himself above everyone else intellectually and ability-wise except the other two executive officers and does not allow direct communication with him without a prior appointment. He often raises his voice to others even in the hearing range of bank clients. Very unprofessional!
The training is minimal and expectations are unreasonable on a time line basis.
A struggling community bank

I worked for Central Bank in their Central Technology Services department. At first it was a warm and welcoming environment. I had financial industry experience but not direct banking. I found the company culture to be volatile, toxic, and highly competitive but for no good reason. The “leaders” were promoted due to loyalty not actual intelligence or leadership skills. Manager meetings were basically out of touch execs preaching about dress codes and “tough conversations.” My direction was minimal and management never had my back. I left and never turned back. Don’t waste your time if you have any actual technical expertise 

I opened the bank in the morning & opened the night drop box. Then I started serving clients with whichever type of financial transaction needed for that day. I meet new clients, became more familiar with existing clients. I always learned something new about the banking industry. The management kept the employees morals up by providing potlucks & other types of fun quaint gatherings. The day was kept interesting until we had an upset customer. However, our team  always manages to calm the customer and correct any mishaps that have occurred.

Central Bank does have a very traditional style of management. The dress code is traditional, some of management can come off as very "fake", but other management is GREAT! If you want a career in banking and/or finance, this is a good place to work. However, if you just want a job through college or part-time, even if you work hard, they do seem to discriminate sometimes and even at times feel pressured as if they are pushing you out. Central Bank does give a hefty Christmas bonus to all part-time AND full-time. They offer good benefits and match 401k up to 6%. 

Depending on if you know and are friends with, someone who is higher up on the food chain, is if you get anywhere with this company. It's a lot like working in a high school environment. Very gossipy and dramatic.

If you have a kid, forget getting your way on hours. You must be available during open hours. 

If you have a doctor's appointment,  make sure it doesn't fall on a busy day and must be two weeks out minimum.

Oh and lastly, if you're not part of the crowd they will alienate you. They will find a way to push you out and get someone they want in.

Central bank was hands down the best job I ever had! My coworkers always helped me when I needed it. The management there was super easy to work with or could help with any situation. Once you get a personal relationship with the customers, it doesn’t even feel like work anymore! The job was a great way to gain more experience in banking and retail with the help of everyone around you. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great work environment!!!!!

I worked here from 2007-2011 as a part-time and full-time teller. The atmosphere is professional, typical bank atmosphere. During this time - I felt there was very minimal drama - not like you hear at some work places. Owners are family-oriented and understanding. Benefits are great and there are opportunities for advancement into different areas. They have locations in the Des Moines area, Sioux Falls area, Spirit Lake, Storm Lake, Cherokee and Sioux City. They have branches of insurance as well.
