I was terminated due to the fact the a supervisor in our department, not mine, did not like the way I re acted to a colleague and friend being fired. I was let go 2 days before my probation. Never received a write up, only talked to once regarding this incident after the fact. My supervisor said as far as she was concerned I had made my probation, but someone did not think so. I was told that the person was not my friend. When they let me go, I was told I was not a good fit and because of the previous conversation. Never called in sick, was on time and my turnaround on work was excellent. Never have been fired before.

Any company that claims to be compassionate ( and they do) and terminates someone in these economic times for a personality problem is not a place where I want to fit it. No adult conversations occurred between myself and the women with the issue. The nurses I worked with are great, the other employees are great. Management is still in the dark ages regarding many things. Was looking for a new job within 2 weeks of working there. Pays okay, hours good. Exempt, for my job no overtime. Employees great, benefits, pretty good.

At will employer can fire you for anything or nothing.

I've been at the Alliance about ten years.  It's a great company with a great vision and mission, and a great working environment. The benefits are amazing.  Leadership is good.  The company has grown a lot in the last five years, and the feeling overall is positive. The culture is very employee focused with a lot of attention paid to employee health and wellness initiatives.  I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the new flexible scheduling benefit being launched soon.  It's a very diverse company, with employees from all walks of life.  I've been promoted several times during my time here, and I like the company overall.

Great health benefits, great PTO program, matched 401k, lots of schedule flexibility with the ability to make up time and opportunities for overtime, inclusive company culture. Leadership cares about your work-life balance (at least in my department). Quarterly performance reviews made sure I knew if I was on track and provided opportunities for growth. Raises possible every year. Even though it felt a lot of the training I had was on the fly and not absolutely regimented, I am leaving the Alliance feeling confident in all I've learned and the skills they've provided me. 

Cons: no intention in the foreseeable future to incorporate fully remote positions, non-customer facing jobs can feel isolating and lack peer connections. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Welcoming and friendly environment. Everyone is super helpful and wants you to succeed. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When members are upset. We cater to a demographic that can be suffering from untreated mental illness and they can say abusive things. Fortunately it's over the phone. It's not common to get difficult members tho. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's very pleasant and welcoming environment. Team players that help each other succeed. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Answering about 20-40 phone calls a day. Calls range from 5-30 minutes.

The Central California Alliance for Health (CCAH) is a mid-sized health plan serving the central coast and central inland areas of California. Administrators at CCAH are smart and thorough. Leadership and professional advancement are of major priority for this company.

I would highly recommend this as a place to work for someone who wants to work in healthcare and learn from some of the best to ever provide healthcare coverage to members.

If you are smart, creative, sensitive, an independent thinker, charismatic, or posse’s leadership, integrity and common sense, this may not be the place for you. Nevertheless, there is always room for those who like military-corporate rules, or adulate and never contradict the boss, even when he is mistaken.
Regardless of its mission and non-profit status, there is no job security due to the infamous "at-will" employment policy. Loyalty, seniority and professional potential equal nothing if you are not liked by the boss.

Good pay, most people working there are great. There are several managers there that need SERIOUS TRAINING. Not sure why they keep these managers in place. The training is all videos and DOES NOT cover all HIPPA issues. You must be VERY quiet working here. Seems they let some employees take advantage of their relaxed system towards the work day.  When trying to solve issues that arise, most managers seem to pass the buck and nothing gets resolved. It's not a bad place to work, if you can over look the above mentioned items. They do promote from within, but sometimes promote the wrong people.

Working with the members was very rewarding and I very much liked most of my co-workers.  It was stressful because we weren't sure what was going to happen with Medi-Cal and managed healthcare in general once there was a new administration in office.  I had a difficult time getting my management to help me with my last position there. I felt that it was a job that required more than one person and they agreed, but changes came very slowly and after asking for help more than once, I decided it was time to move on.

I worked at the Alliance for seven years; as the company grew, so did the demands on the staff. In my opinion, technology management made a costly decision regarding the direction the database technology should go; despite, that, though, the company has persevered and most of the technology management has been replaced.  Its a better time to work at the Alliance now than it was a few years ago.

WFH  and some really good coworkers 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management, HR, and folks who have been there too long and hate to get with the times.

Management silos and only care about themselves
