I haven't exactly learned about the inner machinations of the hospital but it's safe to assume that the medical staff properly maintain their inventory and work to the best of their ability. All I've done was just a small service as a volunteer; it ranged from giving directions and answers to questions for every visitor that passes through the River Tower complex (which specializes in oncology, urology, and pediatrics to an extent) and helped in the food court by preparing complimentary coffee, restocking various goods and supplies, regularly wiped the tables, garbage disposal, and dishwashing.

I never complained about my experience as a volunteer and the hospital's security measures are fairly implemented all-around the building. I left the hospital initially to get some prior experience while attending college and could have considered further involvement despite the number of positions occupied by other volunteers. I wanted to move on to another job but being involved in a local, expanding hospital to contribute it's service to the Kenai Peninsula is a good way to get a head start for attaining some degree of experience.

Very busy outpatient behavioral health office serving clients with active addictions and substantive need for residential treatment for substance abuse and dependency. Opportunities to integrate the disease model of addiction treatment and the BRENDA intervention model.

Collaborative opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with addicts in recovery who are also porbationed felons, assisting with life skill development and trauma recovery. Clinical Director's management style is very directive, yet professional and supportive. Co-workers are generous with their time and support throughout the workday and willingly offer schedule coverage and collaboration on projects.

The hardest part of the job is the software interface with documentation in both a paper system and an electronic medical records system. Often, duplication is required and results in personal frustration and time-consuming tasks. The most enjoyable part of the job is the face to face interaction with clients and developing therapeutic interventions that are sustainable and life-changing.

This company is short staffed in every department, all the time. It's easy to get hired and easy to make money. However there is very little approach to ensuring a good work/life balance. You can not expect to have natural breaks in the week from work. You will miss alot of family functions and you will likely forget what life is like on the outside of the hospital because they rarely give you extended breaks. You will work very long shifts for weeks straight with very few days off. That is a common work culture trait that lives within this hospital.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No communication between admins. Pay and hours where horrible and they treat their employees like animals.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment was very unpredictable, it all depended on who was the house supervisor and charge Nurse of the shift. Whether they liked you or not. It could be hostile at times and overwhelming, dues to the fact that certain employees got heavier assignments than others based off of popularity.  No culture present at all. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hit the floor running, hoping that you didn't have a patient end up on the floor because we were soon short staffed, or if you would have a chance to eat or use the restroom. It was very typical to have more than 10 patients a night sometimes 15-20 depending on staffing. Work through the night with maybe a quick bathroom break or  a 7 min break for fresh air.

I have always enjoyed working in the medical record field. Working at Central Peninsula Hospital has been a great experience for me and I have always gotten much satisfaction working there. I get along well with all of my co workers and enjoy going to work because of the teamwork that we all share as well as the friendships that we have developed. One of the hardest part of my job has been the amount of changes that have been happening over the past couple years, and one of the best part of my job is learning to like the challenge of working through those changes with a positive attitude. All of my job is enjoyable. I love variety and this job has definitely given me that.

Overall, I loved the work I did but the environment was not enjoyable. I felt my department was poorly managed and my personal safety was often compromised with difficult patients or issues that were not communicated to me before performing my job. The hospital, as a whole, did not seem to have my best interest in mind as an employee. I would often work many days in a row, at a 10 hour shift, due to understaffing with only half an hour to eat lunch and no other scheduled break. My favorite part of the job was getting to draw blood in the emergency room and help with resuscitation efforts or trauma cases.  The diversity of being at a hospital is very interesting and rewarding, being able to be involved in all departments with many different coworkers and many different kinds of patients.

The good leaders do not stay long. The top leadership react to everything by punishing the directors and managers. We had a grwat director for a while, some of the staff made up complaints that he was being mean and strict. So the staff won again and went right back to being sloppy and providing terrible care. The CNO fired the guy for doing a good job. Decisions seem to be made by leaders  who are only going through the motions of wanting to provide good care.  The regular staff complain about the travelers, mostly because the travelers are better nurses.  This is not a good place to work as the culture is based upon blaming others for their lack of ability.

A typical day at work is very very busy the minute your shift starts. RN's, Physicians, techs and patients all vying for your time at once while answering phones and transcribing physician orders.
I learned medical terminology and how to multi task quickly. 
Management was very good, compassionate and understanding of employee issues
Co workers were CNA's and other clerical assistants.
The hardest part of the job was dealing with very sick or dying patients. 
It was also the most rewarding part of the job, to show compassion and love to hurting people.

Patient focused care--  a small hospital with many long term employees. Staffing could be challenging but this is a concern with any hospital. I left because I moved out of state. I worked there for ten years and would go back if I were to ever move back to Alaska (not happening). Loved my coworkers and manager- great team work! Competitive pay and benefits! 401 K match, etc.

Central Peninsula General Hospital is a non-profit acute care hospital based at 250 Hospital Place in Soldotna, AK. The facility is accredited and provides emergency services. The mortality rate for heart attack patients at the facility is no different than the national rate. The patient mortality rate is also no different than the national rate. In 2006, a total of 473 Medicare patients were given 2,755 days of PPS inpatient care and services.
