I was told I'd have the option to work four long days, but then was assigned to a job that required five days. Was told I could work 7a--3:30p if I chose 5 days, but the assigned job required 8a--4:30p. Enough paperwork to drown Loch Ness, much of it redundant and about covering the company's behind. Passive-aggressive management (They get points for creativity, though: Think she's too slow? Move her to the Dementia Unit.)  During Covid, prison dangerously understaffed. Counselors still expected to see inmates in dorms, though lack of guards made that a possible suicide mission. "Quarantined" inmates allowed to roam the premises. Lots of surprises when you show up the first week: can't even bring sealed water bottles in, staff not allowed to bring in cell phones (inmates have plenty of them tho). If I'd been told these things upfront, I'd have opted out. No electronic records, so EVERYTHING you do takes ten times longer than it should.  Putting a document in a file requires taking the whole file (the majority of which are about 8-10 inches thick) off two-hole fasteners to get to the right spot and spending half an hour threading the documents back on those fasteners. And sort of like the way teachers have to teach toward standardized tests these days, everything at the prison is done toward audits. I took the job, because I thought it would be an interesting learning experience, and I thought I'd enjoy doing trauma work with inmates. Unfortunately, the only thing I learned was how it feels to be circled by a tweaking inmate twice my size when locked in the yard with no guards in sight. And the only trauma work I got to do was on myself when the whole nightmare was over.

Any job in a corrections environment is, at best, stressful. In my case, the stress came mainly from inept management and support staff who were just lazy and failed to consistently do their job. The team was staffed with about 97% females most of whom appeared to have issues with men in their lives. This created a hostile, subtle though it was, working environment. Honesty and integrity is non-existent. A good deal of effort is devoted to covering up poor job performance. I asked, before I accepted the job, why they could not keep Mental Health Professionals at the facility (Northern Florida). They all blamed it on a mental health clerk who had been in the position for several years. She was terminated within a month or two of my employment. She did have her issues but I believe that the problem is still there. Poor management! The HSA does not hold people accountable consistently. She shows favoritism and appears to be inept at her job. It took forever to get access to the state inmate database so that I could do my job!  Regional and state level management is not much better. I contacted both regional and state level management with several valid issues and they were mostly talk and very little action. They failed to supply adequate mental health staffing at the site to deliver services. If you are a hard-working, ethical, Mental Health Professional that is considering a position with MHM; I think that you should reconsider. If you want a temporary job (I doubt that you will stay very long), it may be okay.  There is a reason that nobody stays very long at that northern Florida facility or with MHM!  It is the inept management and lazy support staff that I had problems with; not the inmates.

I was employed by this agency very recently. I was hired based on my experience with the criminal justice population and group facilitation. I was told that I would not need to conduct home visits, would be working with Juvenile Probation Clients 12-15, and my hours were set hours. Within my first two weeks, I learned that I had to conduct home visits, the clients were age 12-18, and later that my hours would be changed as early as be an hour. When I saw ways to improve the agency, I was told, "Stay in your lane", which was the lingo of the office to not make waves and effect the others in the office by making thier work harder. Staff members were immature and loud, made inappropriate inuendos throughout the day and would come and go as they please. My supervisor was not any better, as she didnt give me direction or train me. I asked for help, she stated that I could ask my coworkers. She would talk down to me, going as far as saying,"Your on thin ice, why are you late"(for being a minute late into work), and my personal favorite,"I am so angry with you right now, I cannot speak to you." That last one was so threatening I contacted my program director, who in prime fashion refused to address the situation and instead repremanded me!! She actually said, "Its not your supervisor or my job to teach you how to do yours." At this point, I contacted HR and they didnt return my calls until after 2 days. I was "fired" by my program director, but later learned that she didnt have the authority to fire me by the HR office and told to return. I told them I couldnt return to such a hostile enviroment...at which point the HR rep told me that if I didnt return I was quitting...even AFTER she fired me!! Horrible!!

The orientation process is very poor and disorganized. New employees receive minimal guidance, and it feels like you are expected to figure everything out on your own while already being short-staffed.
Staffing is consistently inadequate, especially at night. The unit is almost always short-handed, which creates unsafe conditions for both patients and staff. Schedules are completely inflexible, with little to no consideration for work-life balance or personal needs.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the moment you clock out and leave for the day.
Management is one of the biggest issues here. There is poor management, with clear favoritism and direct placement of relatives into key positions. Opportunities for growth or advancement are virtually nonexistent. The supervisor and Director of Nursing focus almost exclusively on strict rule-following and heavy micromanagement. Instead of supporting the team, leadership creates a toxic work environment where staff send emails to superiors to throw colleagues under the bus and create difficult situations for others.
This culture of backstabbing, micromanagement, and lack of support leads to high burnout and low morale. If you value a collaborative, fair, and growth-oriented workplace, this is not the place for you.

They over work you. Have you doing your job and filling in 2 other positions at the same time because of how short they are on staff. You are expected to finish everything you are asked to do, while adding something new to do every 5 minutes and checking that you did it every 5 minutes. You are expected to complete everything that is asked of you by the end of the day, and will get in trouble if you don't.  Lunches are automatically deducted, even if you don't take a lunch break, AND if you send a time adjustment form to let them know not to deduct a lunch break that day you will be asked if it was pre-approved and asked why you didn't take a lunch, as if they didn't know that all the work they assigned you wouldn't allow you to take a break and have to work through count. I can't even recall the last time I actually had a lunch break.
You will accumulate PTO but will likely never be allowed to use it, and if they do allow you to, you will be lucky to be paid 2 pay periods after using the time-off..... During your time off, you will be contacted by your bosses, truly allowing you no time away from your job. OH, and if you don't answer the calls you will receive a text shortly after, or more calls from different numbers until you do. 
Be expected to be involved in drama, even if you do not participate. It's amazing the things people will say, and how fast it travels. You receive more support from DOC staff than your own company. 
As far as working at a prison, it is not what movies make it seem like. The guys are very needy. Most of the inmates are respectful and all know right from wrong.

I was totally unaware of the extremely low employee morale upon hire. My first day there I was confronted with disgruntled employees who were responsible for "training" me.  Everyone has issues with the direct supervisor as well as with regional management. Almost every employee there was actively seeking other employment. In the shirt  number of months I was there, 5 employees departed. Compensation is extremely poor, considering YOU must be licensed, experienced, knowledgable, and willing to work in an at risk environment. However, YOU will be supervised by unlicensed persons. You earn a generous amount of leave, but will have difficulty when you try to use it. You will be hired for the position because they are always in desperate need of someone to fill a shift for the moment, hour, day, or week. Know that you are dispensable and when you showthat you have a backbone you will be considered unvooperative and targeted. If you attempt to get any issues resolved utilizing regional management, they will inform the other party (direct supervisor) and collectively go against you. Many employees express feeling threatened (to lose their jobs) on a basis. The tension amongst the staff is unbelievable. Neither are you or the clientele are valued. MHM's only concern is meeting the minimum requirements of their contract. Know, they recently LOST their contract for the Delaware corrections facility due to their poor performance. Best of luck.


I entered the interview process with initial enthusiasm, appreciating the prompt scheduling that indicated a proactive approach to candidate engagement. However, the experience took a downturn when I did not receive the expected call for the first interview and my follow-up email went unanswered. This communication gap raised concerns about the professionalism of the process.

In an attempt to address the issue, I proposed a rescheduling, but unfortunately, encountered difficulties in the process. The challenges faced during the rescheduling prompted me to reconsider my participation in the interview process, ultimately leading to my decision to withdraw.

One notable drawback was the lack of transparency throughout the process. A simple rejection letter, in response to the communication issues, would have provided clarity and closure. The absence of such communication left me feeling unsettled and disappointed.

In summary, while the initial stages of the interview process showed promise, the overall experience was marred by communication challenges and a lack of transparency. These aspects are crucial for fostering a positive and professional experience for both candidates and employers during the hiring process.

A typical day: After the eight to ten minutes of waiting time between the arrival, clocking in, etc. (usual routine) you would walk towards your place of work.  You would notice that Security officers are outstanding, very courteous and respectful. However, once in your arena of expertise (work place); you would be treated with little respect.  Even professional-coworkers that had not completed their training would be disrespectful and expect you to follow their so call orders. As a professional you would have to wait for everything. The coworkers professionals would schedule, with other persons outside the place of work; and leave little time for you to be able to perform your daily duties. The most enjoyable part of the job was really sharing with officers and personnel, about military and community services given, and whenever your work would help someone within the population receiving your services. The hardest part of the job was recognizing that your peers coworkers were never your allies. The metaphoric meaning of back-stabbing, a reminder of what happened 50 years B.C. Experienced Professionals will probably leave within the first two weeks.  I would recommend the company to lower their expectancies of hiring good professionals.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There is absolutely no oversight, seemingly at both jccc and frdc.  Treatment plans are carbon copies, on patient to the next, with no intervention from the clinician listed.  Sessions are then in the moment "what existing coping strategies do you have?"  Deep breathing is all I heard recommended in 3 months.  If you want to do lazy "work," and are hopeless about outcomes- it'd be a cush job with high pay

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Patients can't possibly get better under those conditions

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Enmeshed.  Existing staff are family outside of work, front line and management.  They fight, slam things, curse each others' names- but then don't hold anyone accountable for their (absent) peice of the work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get piled on so the Family Staff can have more leisure time, be annoyed at which staff is doing Home Tasks from their desk, ask management to do A Needed Thing (again,) stay 2 hours late (unpaid) because Management hasn't allowed me to just take over and institute a functional way to complete my work, go home worried about which patient will die on fentanyl because "we" didn't get them into my class or arrange a plan for MAT (both which 60+ patents have *asked* for)

I have been with this company for 5 years. Biggest complaint, no raises or promotional opportunities.  If you want a job with job SECURITY, than this is the company to work for. If you want a job with stability ... this is it. But if you want a raise, or recognition, or to be fairly compensated for your duties which are ever growing, i suggest working elsewhere. Every year we hear the same ol' "changes and raises are coming", and every year without fail we are still not compensated. Its a running joke amongst employee's at this point. 
You might see a "3k sign on bonus", but the reason they have to offer that is because they cant keep nursing staff on site due to no INCENTIVES to actually stay. It would be cheaper to give someone a few dollars/year to stay vs. handing out thousands and thousands in bonuses constantly. Just seems kind of counterproductive if you ask me. 
This parent company is a fortune 500 billion dollar company who willingly allows their employee's so suffer year after year financially. They don't take into account the cost of living for your area, or how high the housing market has become. As long as you pass your audits you're a number they're willing to keep on payroll. 
If you want to feel unappreciated, underpaid and overworked, Centurion is the company to work for. 
The only plus side is HR makes it borderline impossible to be fired, so at least we wake up knowing we have a job.
