A typical day at work was come into the office, login, review emails, prioritize work for the day and work my journal.  Any new claims which came in were investigated same day they came in.  I learned not to put off things until the next day.  My supervisor was not good with communication, which was the hardest part of the job.  I asked how my performance was and my supervisor told me to discuss with HR.  I spoke to HR and they stated that they had not received anything from my supervisor indicating I was doing anything poorly and that they still had about 8-9 months of work for temporary claims help.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the other adjusters and the help they provided.  The Directors for each of the units were very business like, but were very hands off and did not seem approachable.

The typical day at work involved either doing research relevant to the project at hand or working directly on the project with the research done. The projects involved working with other members with my division which taught me how to rate premiums as well as manage and compare accounts between our company and competitors' premiums. Management was laid back, but did push us to get our best work in as well. My co-workers were easy to get along with and we accomplished most of our work as a team, or helped each other when we were stuck on a part. The hardest part of the job was the importance given to the attention of detail during the research process that taught me to never miss a detail. The most enjoyable part was creating a valuable formula that was applicable to our premiums as well as the experience I received.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people you work with are good people. The benefits were great. I was in customer service and I really enjoyed my position at the company.  I like helping our customers resolve the reason for the call. I had 24 yrs with the company. 


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The call volume and the customers that were on hold had no patience

You work with a variety of different nationalities but everyone is there for one reason. To serve our customers

All jobs are process driven, strict rules for handling claim files. Opportunities for great results often missed by needless steps. Management operates in fishbowl and does not understand how job is done. Company changed from quasi State agency to private company in 2013. Upper management shamelessly gave themselves big raises. All employees who started after 2014 given higher salaries than the loyal long term employees.Unsettled corporate culture.

I have been working here for several months and I love my job. I have communicative supervisors and get good feedback about my work. I work from home part time and in the office part time so I get the best of both worlds. My hours are flexible and the perks and healthcare benefits are great. Employees in other departments have been so nice and helpful when I've had questions.

I have worked in Claims Department for over 10 years. Promotions seem to go to friends of the VPs or family members of politicians and Board members. Current crop of Directors are light weight in experience. You can see the hesitancy in many of them to make decisions. Knee jerk reactions are made to settle claims, often against the best interest of the insured. Lousy benefits for recent hires. Avoid this employer.

Was asked in writing to engage in unethical behavior.  This was supported by management and human resources.  Younger people hired and promoted over existing personnel.  Fear of being written up and being written up was used extensively as a management device.  No promotional opportunities.

I really enjoy working at this company. The employees are really great and management is wonderful. They really take their employees serious. This is a place for advancement. Everyone here is kind and very nice to work with. There is a open door policy with management so they care about the employees here. I look forward to going to work everyday.

I had a wonderful time working at Chesapeake. I learned a lot of new skills working. My only issue is that there is a lot of office politics when working there. You might get passed over a promotion for someone who has been there longer then you. However, once you do the time, you can effectively move anywhere in the company as the company is very willing to train you in that new job.

This company has a assembly line attitude toward claim handling. Volume matters more than quality and meaningful results. Claims Management is home grown, and does not have the experience to address the causes for ineffectual claim handling. All claims must be settled regardless of negative impact on their policyholders. Unattainable goals set.  This company has a negative toxic environment.
