During the COVID pandemic employees were allowed to work from home. now that things are getting back to normal employees who have successfully been working from home will be forced to return to the office. Unfortunately there have been difficulties that have arisen since the start of the pandemic as far as child care needs, higher bills, so on. this company does not care if you have or can afford child care, if you can even pay your bills. I am actively looking for other opportunities with employers that will value their employees and continue to allow a hard working employee with zero complaints against them to work from home or at the very least pay a livable wage! Children's Hospital does not value their employees and they sure do not care if their employees have their own children that need to be cared for. This Company cares only about their bottom line, but thanks for that 3% raise this year. Must have been all they could do after spending millions in marketing during the pandemic. Children's should be embarrassed by how little they pay non medical staff! There are hundreds of employees working hard to make sure there are patients being seen, concerns from families are being heard, patients charts are accurate, insurances are accurate. just to name a few. These employees do these jobs and so much more are easily replicable to this company that claims to care so much. 

I was Staffing Coordinator for Inpatient Services. My job was to work with the charge nurses and coordinate the staffing for each floor for the oncoming shifts, i had 6 units to staff. Communication and listening was a very important part of my position.Being able to use good judgement on the mix of nurses that floated when needed is a very important part.I prepared staffing reports for the managers at the end of the month,so i worked with them a lot.So maintaining accurate information was a must.I also worked with the House Supervisors and kept her updated on the staffing.My position was phased out and the House Supervisors were given this task.
The most enjoyable part of my job was when we had enough staff to take care of the kids, the worst part was when we didn't have enough staff and couldn't get them to come in.
My co-workers were great, i formed many friendships thru the years.
I would like to get back into Phlebotomy that was a great job as well. I was certified and as i said i am working on getting re-certified.I missed the patient contact and the skills i have to offer a doctors office or lab.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being able to use my ID card to pay for lunch and make purchases at the gift shop. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The job turned out to not be a good fit and my manager came to resent me in the position and eventually accused me of being insubordinate (which I wasn’t) in an attempt to bait me into a situation where she wouldn’t feel guilty about terminating my position. 



What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
To be fair, I can’t slam the culture, just because the job wasn’t a good fit. People seemed to really like their jobs and the culture really wasn’t anything alarming. Had the position worked out, I’d have liked working there. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Horrible. Again, it just wasn’t a good fit and I struggled to learn my job. My manager at a certain point just turned nasty towards me. She initially tried to help me acclimate but would not accommodate how I needed to learn. Ironic since she was a training manager.

Children's is an amazing place to work, depending on the department. The Access team (actual people on the ground helping patients) are wonderful, hardworking and have a positive team approach. The management however are severely lacking in making staff feel part of the team or that their voices are heard. VERY understaffed for the leads. Sadly, overall it was not a positive experience for me.  I know MANY other departments and staff love their jobs and rightfully so. Access team is not the place for warm fuzzies or team building from management. The care provided by Children's clinical teams to patients is top notch --2nd to none. I would HIGHLY recommend their patient care, however be careful to ask good questions in your interview and see how the staff you would be working with feel about their jobs and their supervisor. I know they can do better in this department, their high turnover in Access is indicative of the problem.The benefits package they offer is nice.

top heavy management at Children's.  always making cuts on the floor level while hiring new middle managers that make six figure salaries that don't make beneficial changes to the units or improve patient care.  bottom line is what matters to this company.  managers are poorly trained, only incompetent or outside applicants with no experience become managers at this place.  negative culture where managers act like high schoolers and feed into toxic behaviors of staff.  if you want to work with your worst bullies from high school and junior high then apply here.  the health benefits are worse than being uninsured.  family health insurance costs $600+ a month with a $8k deductible, nurses literally have babies and still haven't met their deductible.

I would have LOVED to stay at Children's nothing is better than caring for the kiddos but the administration doesn't care about anything but themselves. They talk all this talk about patient safety yet they will run every employee ramped with unsafe staffing to kid ratios. There isn't enough time in the world to get all the work done that is needed but they refuse to close down if there is an open bed. Departments are not run like the others there is a huge difference between who is treated what way. Oh and the pay is no where close to what other surrounding hospitals pay and Children's is a speciality hospital.

Children's is growing and expanding services across the metro and beyond. Sometimes that means growing pains, but that's to be expected at any organization. The "People First" culture is supported all the way from the board of directors, to the CEO to executive leadership and beyond. Children's is leading the community in pediatric mental health by building a new behavioral center, scheduled to open in 2026.

Children's is also leading the way in innovation; we've got services and technology that no other pediatric hospital in the country has.

They also have a bonus plan for all employees at every level. 

While I believe Children's hospital has the best of intentions for the children, I believe that unfortunately, the operations of management is to hire part-time or casual as much as possible to avoid having to give their employees health insurance....which is sad in the health care industry.  Staffing is also noticeably short many days, so much so ...that a worker can walk on the floors many days and never see a nurse.  Small children and babies..particularly on weekends are in their rooms alone with little or no supervision.  This is not the staff's fault...it is the management cutting costs and believing this is okay while advertising the excellent quality of care that Children's is supposedly well known for.

I work four days a week that are from 3pm to 130am and every other weekend. I register patients as they walk in the front door of the ED as a quick registration. We then do bedside registration with copying insurance and collecting copay, coinsurance, deductibles. I have learned how to multi-task within two systems. I really enjoy the people I work with and love the children that come in. The hardest part of the job are the hours now that we have transitioned to four ten hour shifts and every other weekend instead of three twelve hour shift and every third weekend. I am looking for a Monday through Friday day shift with no weekends.

Very toxic place to work.  Management does not support staff.  Management stick together and don't support their own staff.  When you have issues or complaints they say they will help fix it and only do half if that.  Pass the buck is upper managements favorite thing to do.  You take an issue to them about your own boss or about something you're boss didn't take care of and they pass it back to your boss.  Still not taken care of.  Management didn't answer emails.  Management altering time cards,  not reprimanded for it.  Staff trying to get others in trouble for no reason and management letting it happen and being in on it.  The worst place to work.
