During the time that I worked as a student medical assistant at Christ Community Health Services, it was an experience that I really enjoyed. The day would always begin with a short devotion every morning in which I enjoyed. Doing patient intake was mostly what I did. This envoved obtaining patient information and inputing it in their files on the computer, taking messages for patients refills, medical issues and sending them to the right physician or to whom it may concern. Somedays I would assist Physicians when needed, doing EKGs, Scanning information into patient's files and whatever else that I was asked to do. Working with the other employees was a real joy to do. The people at Christ Community are real caring about the patients and for each other. The manangement was very professional and if there was a conern that you had you could always go the them. To me, it was as if they are a big family that who got along with each other and there was a lot of among them. I really enjoyed working at Christ Community during externship because seeing the expressions on the patients faces, showing them that you really care. When most of the patients were leasving they would smile, and would say thank you and that I feel a little bit better already becaus you really care.

Christ Community is a FHQC focused on providing integrated healthcare (Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health)  to the under-served communities of Memphis with a particular emphasis on caring for the uninsured and impoverished across the lifespan. The work can be stressful as many of CCHS patients have complicated medical concerns and limited access to needed resources for health, and clinics are at times without the most recent advances in medical technology for providers. The company has a culture of being grounded in Christian community.  The leadership culture at times struggles with knowing how to cultivate a commitment to quality patient care while balancing respect for work/life balance needs of staff and providers, but is working hard to create that culture and has been working to improve employee benefits, compensation and advancement opportunities.

The management is lowsy! They have separate managers at different locations who are allowed to lie, but everyone beneath them has to follow the codes and protocols. Worked there for almost 2 years and never received a raise due to the mismanagement! They actually changed our benefit package to have less money come out of our checks to try to make up for not getting a raise. Maybe would receive an incentive check that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on, and you wouldn't receive one if your nurse manager was having a hard time with her family and took it out on the employees and wrote them up! They have prayer every morning, on the patients time, and have to pray like it is written in the protocol, can't just pray, have to pray the nurse managers way. They treat the doctors awful, absolutely no respect for them! And even worse to the patient! Not allowed to receive overtime, they want you to stay late and not compensate you for it.

Less pay for how much their work you for. The benefits where ok.

Job security and advancement
Not sure about job advancement due to others dont want to see you get a head of them. The manager remind you of how that your job is not secured when dealing with her.

Management
Management at the Raleigh location needs to be  re-evaluated.  She has her picks and is very salty when it comes to her explanating things to you. She tells everyones personal issues that shouldn't be spoken of to the staff just very unprofessional and sloppy individual who pertends to be this pleasant individual but she is not...

Culture
The assistants are helpful but there's one who is very competitive for no apparent reason when you are just there to be a team player an pay your bills.

Overall
Nice christian culture to work for but far as management is concern the company need to have better choices when promoting for their management awlful.

This is a good place to work if you wish to work in a faith-based health care system. The real plus about working here is that spirituality is integrated into the care. For example, there is a spiritual health team that helps provide care and all providers are given training on how to incorporate faith into their work. This is unlike other health care systems in Memphis where the system may be supported by a church yet not explicitly use prayer or other elements of faith in the care. Also healthcare here is comprehensive; there are behavioral health services, dentistry clinics, and women's healthcare services. Like every place, there are pros and cons for working here. Many of the people working here are big-hearted and this is a real benefit.  Some of the cons may be related more to the state of health care in this country rather than the company in particular. If you are flexible and a problem solver you will find working here enjoyable.

A typical day would include patient communication in all levels of their information and medical records. Some patients are difficult while others really remind you why you are here, and all the benefits to being served here means. My co-workers are my extended family. I see them more than my blood relatives, and we have ups and downs like any other family mamber. I believe the only hard part about my job is the fact that there is no room for growth. They were about promoting from within but I have not had that experience yet. The most enjoyable part about my job is meeting all different types of people and making friends with some of my co-workers on personal level.

Government grant-funded jobs have to adhere to specific requirements, which can change.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive environment and an overall love from the physicians and staff of why they do and genuine concern for their patients and  the  improvement to society

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depends on the department, but most start with morning devotion or a positive word for the staff. Regular all-employee meetings keep employees from different buildings connected

Hours were not bad but my experience wasn’t a very good one

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They want you to do more jobs than the one you were hired to do without any extra pay 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Drama all the time it was drama, basically the nurses always against the front desk people every day it’s a new issue and the manager always taking nurses side

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful trying to answer phones, for co pays and scheduling, check in patients with the phone ringing constantly that means checking in patients in the clinic and also virtual patients

A very exciting training opportunity, busy, fast paced environment.  Checked in and serviced patients situations, recorded and scanned documents of medical insurances, proof of income verification and determined sliding fee scale for eligible patients. Printed and determined and figured lab fees. Checked out patients and rescheduled follow up appointments per doctors request. Co-workers were helpful and any concerns or questions were addressed. The most enjoyable part of this job experience was exploring what was taught in my college career and seeing first hand my job duties, preparing me first hand to handle this career in any given opportunity.

Typical days at cchs consisted of scheduling new and existing patients appointments for all the clinics, visiting patients while they're in the hospital, home visits when requested, conducting follow-up contacts to discharge patients, and finding out what the patients barriers were i.e. copay pay, medications, transportation, dental, housing, and sometimes  referrals to specialists. The most exciting thing about this position was participating in the health fairs which allows you to meet new people from the community to spread the word about cchs services and locations.
