Great company to work for.   You get about 6 months of training.  People never minded to lend a hand, or give tips to work smarter not harder.  It’s a union job so jobs were picked by seniority, but not while training.  One day you may lift 50lbs. bags, or shovel material out of a super sack, and dump them into 50 gallon drums.  Or you could work with a cement mixer impregnating extrusions with a precious metal.  It’s possible you could sit in an office, with air and learn the dynamics of fixed bed, or fluid beds.  A lot of data entry, adjusting spec, using hydrogen, nitrogen, aragon, natural gas, and oxygen.  You learn to become mechanically inclined, and become knowledgeable about how to troubleshoot.  This company didn’t have a problem with any type of diversity that most people hear about.  I can say that honestly.  Management walks through answers questions if needed, but they depend on you to do your job without them standing over your shoulder.  It’s not high school.  The thing I truly miss the most was how intriguing each and every process was.  The thing that made me feel successful was when I made my product, and after turning my samples in the lab, all my specs were in perfect range.

Meetings consume at least 3-4 hours of the day and less than half of that time is constructive skillful conversation. Coming from an industry outside of chemical, I learned about operation and maintenance of reactors, agitators, pumps, heat exchangers, and the various piping, valves and instrumentation associated with each. Management changes department structure every 2-3 months regardless of positive or negative results, so medium to long term goals can change in an instant and do not always align with plant needs or priorities. Workplace culture is decent. The team does a good job of driving solutions and communicating when the plant is down or struggling to operate. However, thinking beyond the day-to-day is lacking and causes issues down the line implementing projects, line outages and other long term solutions. The hardest part of the job is making sure the correct communication is being passed through department hierarchy, as well as across other departments. The most enjoyable part of the job is learning about new technology in the industry and training associated with it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This was by far the AWFUL place i’ve ever worked. I was hired as a full time employee and four months later they cut my hours because ‘I wasn’t getting any samples’. But they expected to do a job that I wasn’t trained for with NO TRAINING The upper (marcelo ect.) management has their heads up their butts. Everyone that works there in the is miserable because of the 5am - 5:30pm hours they don’t tell you about. They give you higher pay to make up for the poor management and unsafe and mentally unstablizing work environment. If you care about yourself in any capacity DO NOT WORK HERE. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
DO NOT WORK HERE. Everyone is overworked and miserable. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unhealthy and stressful. You don’t want to work here for anything other than the money. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
STRESSFUL. I was required to do 100+ samples a day when they received 2000+ a week. They don’t care about you what so ever they just expect you to stand there and run the samples like a machine.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The benefits were awesome plus new hires were eligible for benefits after 30 days of employment vs waiting 90 days like a majority of other companies. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Because we carried hazardous materials every day we were constantly being targeted by DOT. You had to either start very early or work the night shift to get to your work assignments without getting stopped and even then they were out there at all hours of the night as well. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone works together as a team and offers information to coworkers about easiest ways to get to locations and helps each other when loading at the bulk plant. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You follow your route that is given to you at the beginning of the work week and finish your assignments as efficiently as possible that way on your last workday you can coast til it’s time to leave for the weekend.

Daily scrums/ meet-ups at the start of shifts, passing information about current status of ongoing operations throughout the facility, assignments, & safety highlights.

50% Forklifting, 20% over watching, 20% operating, rest consist of keeping areas clean, taking samples, mixing chemicals, etc. Breaks are paid, and overtime is offered based on seniority & how many machines you can operate.

Overall the veterans here stayed due to the benefits, ask anyone and they'll likely tell you it wasn't a career they dreamed of, but the benefits, full time pay rate, and life balance can't be beat anywhere else locally..

Would like to see the seniority system be changed, workers at the bottom of the chain hardly get offered overtime due to the system. That, and when things start seeming slow for at least 2 weeks, it's likely nearing lay offs, (Very often when material stock is out, machines are down).

A typical work day consist of scheduling and prioritizing workload and manpower. It is a steady and energetic work environment, with friendly and hardworking people. I have grown within the company, starting as an operator working my way up to supervisor. I have been given the opportunity to better myself through leadership training(s), first responder training and also Green Belt training. The company encourages and supports all employees to better them selves by offering countless on-line courses and the option to attend college.
The hardest part of the job has been changing to second shift, it was a transition that was difficult on a personal level.
The most enjoyable part of my job has been the variety of people I have had the pleasure of working, learning and growing as a business and an individual.

A typical day consisted of maintaining quality throughput. 
I have learned how to operate certain machinery along with other tasks. 
Management seemed draw focus toward certain departments rather than maintaining focus on all departments (through my observation and personal opinion). 
The atmosphere consisted of employees ranging from young adults to senior citizens. Majority had positive attitudes. 
The most challenging part of the job personally was maintaining stability when machines would malfunction. It was also difficult when  witnessing some operators disregard their responsibilities as an employee. 
Overall, I enjoyed learning how to operate the machinery and the people I worked with.

Great pay for the work. 

Management still floundering after role changes. Management still talks down to operators. It starts from the top and it shows.

Work life balance exists but for how long no one knows currently since production is picking up and there are more jobs than operators on each shift most of the time. Alternating shifts(on days for a while then nights for a while).

Write ups and no accountability continue to be a problem. 

Culture is very old school. Parental (fear based) managing happens instead of peer to peer based which causes favoritism and hierarchy on the shifts. People are looked at as things to manage instead of people to be encouraged to do the best they can. 

If someone is strictly looking for good pay, this is the place. If a someone wants to be treated well, this is not the place to come work.

Clariant offers a very professional atmosphere and treats their employers as important assets. Clariant demands excellence and requires that it's protocols be followed tediously. Job safety is an important factor in production and employees are encouraged to point out areas of improvement. Benefits at Clariant are some of the best around as far as medical, reimbursement, personal time off, and retirement. Although advancing within the companies infrastructure is difficult, there are plenty of job opportunities that become available that are offered to employees.
Overall, Clariant is great environment to work at if a steady schedule and job security is valued.

I do not recommend working for this company and to be honest I should have really considered all the reviews I read here from other employees before making the decision to work for Clariant. It is probably one of the worst companies I´ve worked for when it comes to pay, benefits and work life balance. The company says that it cares about it´s employees but the reality is that it constantly cuts costs and expects remaining employees to pick up the slack through working very long hours and taking on additional roles making it a very toxic environment to work in.

The only positive point I can say is that Clariant does have a few very talented people I enjoyed working with but I suspect they will also soon leave if this is the path the company decides to continue to take.
