There are good reviews and bad reviews for a lot of companies, so I'll be genuine in my response.  I have enjoyed working at CRL and it's full of smart, happy, and caring staff.  The way they handled covid and thrived through the pandemic while still caring about the company was impressive.  Yes they might not pay the most and yes there may be overtime, but the company is honest upfront with expectations and job duties, plus management is always working to improve the process or make the work from efficient.  They reinvest in technology and they pay the staff a fair rate - there are places the pay more, but that's because it's for a job you'll like less.  I would recommend CRL to everyone and that includes temporary staff, scientists, HR, and managers.  This company cares about the staff and gives everyone clear communication about what's going on.  

I had the opportunity to work at CRL during the summer when many biology/chemistry majors we’re trying to gain some lab experience. I personally loved the people I worked with, and the positive community was what made me excited to go to work in the morning. The tasks are usually very simple and can even become mundane, but my supervisor often gave unclear instructions which caused stress at times. There was also some misinformation about PTO for temporary employees during orientation, but for the most part I really enjoyed my time at CRL. There was a lot of opportunity for overtime too, which paid 1.5X the standard pay. Workers in toxicology sample management (my department) were also given the opportunity to move to screening when screening became short-staffed, and if I remember right, my supervisor worked from the very bottom up to the position he holds now. 

This company started off as a good company, but after the owner retired about five years ago, the higher management have really changed.  They have their favorite employees as well as the supervisors. My piece of advice, Do not train a person to be your back up cause you are being set up and that person who you trained is the one who is getting a promotion. If you don't bark when the supervisor say bark, and the one who you trained did bark is the one who is getting the promotion.  And when covid 19 hit, they should have told the 75 years old to retired so that others could have a job. (They protect their favorite.)  So if you bark you will get ahead or your job is protected. (favoritism)


I worked there for over a year and it was horrible. I often worked 10 hour days. We had to combine our two fifteen minute paid breaks into lunchtime and never received extra break even when we worked multiple hours of overtime. This company gives bonuses on how long you've been at the company not the quality of work you do. Also everyone got the same raises regardless of the quality of work they do. The only good thing about this job was I loved my co-workers. Another bad thing was only one person in the department could take PTO at a time, and the company doesn't give many holiday days. We had to work the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. They expect certain people in the department to do more work than others for the same pay.

Im just writing what I see nothing more or less.CRL strives to grow every day and really care about who they partner up with. This company does its best to get the job done and definitely shows it. This company is kind and generous to have first aid kits everywhere, free tampons and pads, and fresh fruits daily. CRL is a clean workplace . Teamwork is definitely there. Co workers are friendly but be careful to who you talk your business with not everyone is your friend.

Run the other way if possible. This used to be a family oriented fun place to work with good ideas and support for their employees. It has drastically changed to a cut-throat life zapping place to work. There is lots of "do what I say" not what I do policies by management. Very poorly organized and very unethical practices. There are a lot of religous undertones but lacking in follow through and behaviour in general. It feels more like wolves in sheeps clothing instead of a shepherd leading the sheep. No professional training for management. I am amazed they are still in business as I have heard they have lowered their standards so much that they are losing very large contracts. You get what you pay for.

The bad: You work your butt off and never get recognized for it. There no chance for advancement unless someone dies. Management sucks! Brake times are too short. Always know what your start time is but never know your end time. Required to work Saturdays when told and it's not posted in job description. Supervisors walk around like they don't have a job to do. Tons of favoritism going on in every department and lots of backstabbing. Pay sucks, no matter what department you go to.

The good: You get free lunches from time to time. The benifents are okay but not great. Ice cream truck comes for free every Friday during the summer months. 80% of the employees are really nice and good people to work with. Vey safe environment.

I loved my co-workers, very friendly people. Management is nice as well but needs some work on organization and skills. The company overall seemed great. Free lunches from time to time and free ice cream on fridays during the summer. They offer a lot of cool information to employees if you look around and read the boards. The biggest con is the Toxicology department can have long hours. 90% of the time it was 10-12hr days. They give you two 20minute breaks and no lunch breaks. Other areas of the company get two 20min breaks plus an hour lunch break. I dont recommend that department if you have a family or are still in school.

typical day was 8-9 hours staring down at the desk or screen worrying about meeting your quota, 2/20 min breaks felt like nothing, and you get your time docked for even having to use the bathroom. pay is based on performance and they raised the numbers for bonus pay which shows they only care about results and money not employees.  i truly would not recommend this job to anyone, nearly everyone looked unhappy or just looked like zombies at work. this place will drain you. maybe if you are desperate.  

I joined CRL last year and have had great interactions with all levels of leadership. CRL offers many perks that I did not have at my last job and the company has been flexible with my work schedule, allowing some remote work on occasion when needed. Not every job is able to be performed remotely, but I have found the organization to provide options when it is feasible for the role.
