I work the 11-7 shift. I typically arrive to work at 10:45pm ensure adequate staffing on each unit of the facility; I normally have one LPN on the Non-skilled unit and 1-2 on the skilled and non-skilled opposite unit. I check to ensure that all CNA's have arrived as well. I then provide linen to each unit to ensure that resident's hygiene is maintained; I make house rounds every 2 hours on each unit, attempting to ensure safe and secure environment for my staff and all the residents in the facility at that time. I check that all residents have adequate, continuity of care throughout the night shift. I audit resident's charts (medical records) for previous orders written through the day and evening shifts to make sure no orders have been missed. I log in medications from the pharmacy and ensure proper and correct documentation of Narcotics of each resident into the appropriate documentation record. I check each units' Lab book, and I then draw the requested blood work pertaining to the labs requested. Residents that are on coumadin/Warfarin therapy must have scheduled PT/INR levels obtained/monitired, I draw the PT/INR levels as well. I ensure that the Code Carts are ready for emergent usage. I transcribe orders, update orders in the current E-MAR documentation system used at this facility. I monitor facility for any concerns/issues that are unsafe, notifying the appropriate departments for follow-ups and completion of issues addressed. I administer medications; provide Antibiotic therapy; monitor PICC-Lines; Insert and discontinue IV lines for medication usage; monitor blood-glucose readings; monitor peg-tube feeding residents/continuous and intermediate feeders; I supervise 2-4 Lpns, 4-7 CNA's; other duties designated.

I worked the night shift at this facility and, unfortunately, had a very negative experience. The patient load was consistently overwhelming, and support from leadership was minimal. One of the biggest issues was micromanagement from one of the night supervisors. Rather than allowing staff to complete essential charting, she would assign additional tasks simply because she didn’t want to see anyone sitting. If you’re assigned the “split” assignment, you’ll be dealing with her all night—something many staff found frustrating and demoralizing.

Management overall was intrusive and disconnected. The administrator often imposed unrealistic demands on the nursing staff without any real understanding of nursing duties, adding further stress to an already demanding role.

Staffing was another major issue. It was common to be left alone with up to 60 patients due to call-outs, and teamwork was lacking—especially at night. Occasionally, a day-shift can would stay to split the load, but that was rare due to the toxic work culture created by the night supervisor.

My time at this facility left me feeling burnt out and unhappy. I dreaded going to work, and ultimately, I wouldn’t recommend this position to others unless significant changes are made to leadership and staffing practices.
Plus the fact people call out and you are by youself with 60 patients and no your nurses will not help you, if you are lucky someone from the day shift will stay and make a two way and u only have 30 patients, but most the time they don’t wanna stay because of the night supervisor

First I have to say that there are literally a handful of WONDERFUL people I've worked with. People who have no business in Carriage Hill. They are hard working people who deserve alot more than what this company has to offer. I wouldn't stick around too long and I plan to help those wonderful people follow suit.


The Administrator is personable. I like that, but the problem is it stops at him. 
Note to John: If you want to rebuild this company's name and reputation,  you have to start within. You can't have a great business with less-than employees. 
You need to boost the morale in this place. It's doooown. I'm sure it's been like this. Those people don't know anything about Carriage core values. You have to either embed it in them or get a whole new crew to instill it in. Positive people bring a great work environment. A safe environment for your residents.
While you do that please invest in decent equipment. Your staff cannot do their job, especially in emergent situations, when things are falling apart. 

I have alot more I could say, but I'll leave it at that. This is a major work in progress.

I enjoy working at the Woodlands. I enjoy taking care of the residents and feeling that I make a difference in their lives. My typical day consists of medication administration, treatments, documentation, taking off physcians orders, checking charts, supervising the CNA.s work and assisting where I am needed. The management is very fair and caring. I work with great, supportive co-workers. The hardest part of my job is when a resident expires. I try to be there with them because I dont want them to die alone. It is hard to have to make the call to the families informing them that their loved one has passed away. These residents become your family and you want to do all you can to make their life easier. The most enjoyable part of my job is spending time listening to them tell about the past, watching them enjoy taking part in activities and listening to them talk among them selves. I really love my geriatric residents but I feel like I would like to make a change and do another kind of nursing at this time in my life.

This place is awful!  Staff is constantly over worked and under scheduled - too many patient's and too few people. Nursing staff ignores patients, has significant language barriers, is rude to patients and family/guests. Management is inattentive.  It's a popularity contest and if you don't fit in they ridicule you in front of other staff, patients and guests. There is no teaching or learning, just public ridicule if you don't do it how they think it should be done, especially if you aren't one of the favorites.  Management and supervisors are discriminatory. Staff sleeps at night or spends hours playing on the internet with supervisors who have no backbone to correct the behavior.  Other facilities owned by same company in the area - stay away also!  This is all about popularity, not competence, knowledge or accuracy of doing your job.  If you speak up against the favorites, you will be retaliated against.  Certain people can break every policy and rule and still work there while others are disciplined heavily and unfairly.

The company is a good company and they have a lot of meetings and employee activities. In the interview they make it seem as if you can work from home as a option when in reality only in bad weather or if your sick. Personally if I’m sick I do not want to work from home either. Working as a part of intake you will only have two federal holidays off. Thanksgiving and Christmas all the other departments are off but not intake. They bombard you with all this work With impossible deadlines and there is not accountability for the centers. Since our job is to serve the centers they get away with doing all kinds of things wrong. Working here can be counterproductive. There are days where you are super busy and others where you just sit there for hours doing nothing. Micromanaging is at a all time high, they will literally stand over your shoulders and watch you work. Or try to rush you through your work so they won’t lose a referral. If you like that type of work environment and want to be bored to Death, and have no time off this is the place for you

Pros: co-workers can be very helpful and partially work in a team based manner (depending on the staffing)
management is mostly helpful when you have a question or concern, they will address any issue immediately to their full extent and they do attempt to fix the problems.
there is always someone you can turn to if you have a problem or concern no matter what day or time. they make all phone numbers readily available in case there is a need and the correct personnel is not in the building

CONS: staffing is miserable on most days, for the first few months i worked here we worked with anywhere from 1 cna to 60 residents to maybe (on a good day) 3 cnas to 20 residents and we were still expected to give high level care to every patient.
some co-workers are hateful and seem to have a sense of entitlement as if they have authority, when addressed to actual management and conflicts are brought to their attention all they tell you is to ignore said person which is hard to do when you work with said person daily and closely

The DON and Human resource person and the administrator on many occasions belittled the staff and lied and this nurse personally witnessed this behavior while on duty. This was reported to corporate but nothing was done. This nurse worked there for over one year. The DON and the human resource person personally brought this nurse into the office and accused me of saying of many things that were not true. When these were brought to the attention of the administrator, and proven false, this nurse was not even given an a word of apology. This nurse was harassed by DON on several occasions as were others in this facility. Another RN was hired to take my place without my notice and when she was oriented, I was terminated over the telephone with the excuse that I had too many sick days. we often worked with 2 cnas for 60 patients at night.

I loved working for the company until new management came in. New management were hire with out any knowledge of how to manage. They got hired based on who they knew in the company and how they got alone with them. I think one should have experience and management skill to be place in such position as Office Manager. I did think the job work/ life balance. Compensation was ok, but when it came to benefits they were to high for anyone to afford, also the review process to get an increase on pay need to be restructured. I never felt like my job was security because I didn't play office politics. I am the type of person who like to come in do there job well and then go home. I don't like talking half the day then try to get all my work done on time. There I felt I had to do that to keep my job. I am a friendly person and will talk briefly then get to work.

Typical day receive report at start of shift.  Med Pass, Treatments, labs, and additional patient care.  Patient computerized charting. Entry of new orders, changing orders and specialized charting such as neuro's, due to a fall, communicating with Physicans and CCP regarding patient care. Office duties such as preparing CNA schedule and responsibilities for the day. Checking in new medications and narcotics from pharmacy. Answering calls from family, Physicians, Pharmacy, or Hospice.  Management tries to be helpful and they are very fair. Co-workers excel at teamwork.  Hardest part of the job is there is never enough time.  So much to do and so little time to accomplish.  Most enjoyable part of my day is when I know I have made a difference in one of my patients lives.
