Days at CommuniCare are spent mostly at your desk, while bringing back patients in intervals. In terms on learning, I hit a roadblock with CommuniCare, as they would not let me expand out of my department or learn new procedures. Management is subpar, the lack of communication is frustrating and they tend to be rude. They are catty to staff, especially over the head seats all the staff wear. The workplace is very cliquey, and do not welcome new staff too well. They will help you learn the bare minimum, and then get upset that you are not learning fast enough. Constant disrespect that goes unpunished by management between employees. Provider and MA relationship is one of the things I like about CommuniCare, as it is, for the most part, playful and respectful. Although, some MAs and providers have a bad habit of gossiping about patients. No incentive for employees, like regular bonuses or raises. New employees are able to get the same pay as employees with 5+ years of experience. The job is not necessarily hard, but all the workplace drama and miscommunication makes it difficult to perform at best. The benefits are good and very fairly priced, and is probably the best part of the job. In summary, CommuniCare is low quality healthcare, for staff and patients; always out of vaccines, supplies, broken equipment, messy workspaces, and rushing patients out of the door. There is no care for patients with private insurance for things like vaccines and behavioral health services. I would recommend working here as an intro level MA job, to know that this is not a place you want to commit to!


While the benefits package at Communicare may be enticing, it seems that access to these benefits is heavily influenced by personal connections and social circles within the company.  Additionally, the influx of inexperienced management personnel raises concern's  about the organization's ability to effectively oversee its operations.The systemic culture breakdown at Communicare can be attributed to poor leadership, causing angst and frustration among the staff.  The current management is criticized for offering excuses and failing to provide effective solutions.  There are huge discrepancies in salaries and constant turnover.  Despite their claims, training is non existent.  Communicare paints a pretty picture on the outside but Ince you peel back the layers, it starts to smell. Do not hold your psychological safety hostage for a paycheck. All that glitters is definitely not gold. At the core, Communicare falls short of its mission, vision and values.  Its who you know that counts.

called in all patients with appointment got their vital signs and chief complain for NP or doctor fill out lab forms if ordered by physician or NP. At end of exam walked them out and called next patient. If it was a well child appointment I walked them into exam room took child got their wt, length, temp, head measure, then got their immunizations ready for after seen by NP or physician I will give the infant or toddler the shots, or older children check their hearing and vision test then if needed shots give them the shots too. I also did referral calls set up appointment for patients, verified insurance on patients and coverage, this place was a friendly and out going place to work. Hardest part of job was when its time to go home I wanted to continue looking for doctors for referrals to help patients that couldn't communicate for themselves. most enjoyable part was when I was able to schedule appointment for patients for what doctor or NP referred them for.

This company is all about who you know and what you’re willing to do to get to the “top”. Management is poor and so is their communication. Management will throw you under the bus just to benefit themselves, but fail to acknowledge their faults. They claim they don’t want “gossiping” but will be quick to hide or run to their office to talk about their employees. A lot of false promises. Little to no growth. If you’re someone who does not like to be micromanaged definitely stay away from here. All they do it obsess over how much work you do and have to get done. The “bonuses” and “pay increases” are all determined by productivity and even at that they are nowhere near what they should be. Employees who have been established their for any years are getting paid less than new hires. They do not pay for uniforms. They do not assist with renewal of your CPR certification and they is no overtime pay. Maybe this place is good for experience if you want to see if that way but nothing more. 

Some of the staff have been there a long time. Most people are fairly nice. The biggest problem with this company is their senior leadership and lower level management. They are very disrespectful to licensed medical providers who have been to school and worked very hard to get their degrees. They have a code of conduct policy but they enforce it when they need it enforced and to the purposes that is serves them. They are a joke.  The HR is a joke and doesn't know right from wrong themselves so how can they even do the right thing for the employees? This place unfortunately has a great vision but the carryout by it's own management team and how they treat their staff and providers totally voids their mission. They dont practice what they preach. 
Would never work here again!!! Horrible

If you like to be disrespected and then get a write up even though you did nothing wrong then go for it. They do not give raises once a year bonus and thats it. I was there 3 years and left because I finally had enough management and the hygienist took a toll on my mental health and there is no one to complain to because they always will belittle you or talk about you. They will tell you if you dont like your job then leave instead of fixing the actual problem the dental assistants are great but the hygienist all 3 all bullies and if you complain nothing happens If you enjoy your mental health do not work here it seems great at first but eventually the true colors comes out. They expect the world from you but no compensation it is dis functional and a horrible place to work. My advice just stay to yourself and go home

I am one of the lucky employees. I know the MAs are very unhappy with their job but I absolutely love CommuniCare. My boss and the company have invested in me so much. I have never had an employer do that. My manager is very flexible when it comes to personal life balance.
The PTO is not great but, what can you do.
The raises are not good.
The pay is not competitive.
BUT none of that matters to me because of how great this company has treated me. I have endless resources to free education as well.
I am blessed.
The CEO is always looking forward. I love a company that is willing to change and the CEO is that. He never sits still and always looking for room to improve and new challenges to better the healthcare for San Antonio. 

This office I was mainly back office.  I worked with 6 different doctors. For every doctor there were 2 assistants. I also assisted the Hygienist and was in charge of restocking the hygiene rooms. I really enjoyed this office. There were monthly meetings for both locations. Hire management was awesome, benefits were great. This company offered a lot to the employees.  I was let go for not renewing my license on time. It said inactive even though it was going through the mail. For some reason, it was not letting me renew online. The renewal office said it was due to my first time renewing. I am on a rehire status for Communicare.

Communicare as an organization was awesome with plenty of opportunities. However,  upper management created many toxic environments with along with poor leadership from some directors down. You can go above and beyond,  sacrifice for your clinic and team even get awards for 10 plus years and because some doesn't like you be fired. Depends on who you know and who likes you to move up. Many empty promises from higher management,  will be lead on to think your doing good but depending on the day from higher ups could be demoted. Change need to come from higher up and career paths and promises made to be hired need to followed through. 

CEO is very innovative, a good businessman who has great ideas and is a great leader.
Leadership team has poor management skills, no respect for the CEO, no communication skills, no empathy for staff- genuinely does not care about staff.  They cover themselves really well and are NEVER WRONG about anything.  They are very good at pointing the fingers at others and they have no respect for staff.
Not a pleasant work environment and leadership team is never held accountable for their actions.
