Company says self-care is crucial, given the emotionally taxing nature of the work, but it's just lip service. When there is actually an issue with one's mental health forget about it. They really don't care. Don't trust them. When I first started working there, it was awesome, but then they received a massive grant and are growing, much to the detriment of their employees. Growth means additional worthless mid-level management jobs with managers micro-managing and putting you under a microscope, despite the fact that the people I work with do an excellent job. Mid-level managers invent problems for everyone regardless as a means to justify their job. Moreover, Community Alliance is becoming more concerned about accounting for their money than they are about client care, which will suffer due to unnecessary paperwork and documentation created by mid level management to justify their existance. Growth isn't necessarily always positive folks, especially at Community Alliance. 

I worked individually with clients providing support and encouragement and helping them with their coping skills. I also facilitated recovery oriented classes which I thoroughly enjoyed. The hardest part of the job was working under the specifications of state and federal funding to meet the clients needs. This became a disadvantage at times. My particular area was enjoyable to work in and we had great team work helping each other out when needed and conferring with one another. Sometimes working with other departments was difficult to collaborate due to various schedules and case loads or willingness to follow through in joint care. The culture could be negative at times due to the need for productivity with state and federal funding requirements.

My anxiety went down DRASTICALLY after quitting this job, and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The leadership was just a title, and they’d go to the team lead for all their questions (someone below them in the hierarchy and in pay). Any attempt of clarification or guidance was met with an empty “I’m sure you’re doing great!” I know I did a good job with my clients, but it had absolutely nothing to do with my supervisors. I taught myself how to do everything. Everyone was overworked, underpaid, and unenthusiastic. We would go to leadership COUNTLESS times with solutions or requests to make our jobs easier, but it was always talking and absolutely no action. I thought residential treatment was a tough gig, but this was worse. They talked and talked, but never did anything about it. Easily the worst place I’ve ever worked at. The clients were the only reason I stayed that long. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I founded the non profit and attached it to the school I was working at to assist students' in need of resources to be successful in their education and career path/search.
Best part: Assisting other finds avenues to success!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There were few stressors after the funding began .. The real stress was starting the org and finding people/businesses to support it.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Warm, Open and supportive of the students and business/volunteers at the organization! Created happy environment

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I only worked their part-time and or a a leader to a volunteer group. It was easy once the assignments, schedules were developed and tasks completed for the acctivitiy(s).

I learned a lot about mental health and the signs and symptoms of a person who just left a hospital setting and in transition back into their society. All this within a home like setting, daily chores, medication administration, 1:1 with staff members regarding progress and other topic on their mind for the time being. Transportation was important for the clients as well as learning new and healthy was to cope with life on a daily basis. Management was great Lois  was my supervisor she was very compassionate and caring for all the clients. My coworkers assisted in the goals of the facility. The hardest part of the job were the hours 3pm to 11pm. Most enjoyable part were the outings and teaching the clients the basics to start work and follow through with decisions of employment.

The hardest part of the job is the employees are not trusted or protected. All the focus is put on the consumers. Management will take the side of the consumer and will punish the staff. Very little effort is given to find out the real story. Staff who have been at location for many years have the impression they are supervisors and will use their power for evil.

Working with consumers is very stressful. There are no consequences for violent behavior. It is not rare to see a consumer verbally or physically abusing staff and there are no safe places for staff to go when danger is present.

I learned that my field of study is not for me thanks to this experience, due to the stress and poor pay for the difficulty of the job.

I did get years of experience in the professional and medical field.

I learned a lot working with this organization. Mostly, I learned what to look out for in future places of employment. Community Alliance claims to be mission oriented but does not effectively execute this within the work. There is no work life balance. Management prioritizes productivity and consistently monitors your work-paying more mind to whether it looks like you’re doing quality work rather than if the clients you’re helping are effectively being supported. I left because I was being micro managed, over worked, and because there was limited-to-no flexibility/autonomy. 

Communication is very important when working with consumers on a daily basic.  This is a typical day when working with persons whom require attention to help with daily living.     

As a RRS, I have learned to be very patient, do not judge and show compassion when caring for persons who have a mental illness.

As a RRS, management skills are required, reason being, the supervisor is not always available to assist with many situations. 

As a RRS, working close with co-workers is important when making decisions as a team.

As a RRS, I avoid difficult days by completing the task at hand, so the next day can be more productive.  

As a RRS, I enjoy working with persons who respect what I do for them.

This is truly the first time that I feel any sense of purpose at work. The job itself isn’t hard, and its administrative nature can sometimes be frustrating, but because of the outpatient setting where the work takes place, I don’t have to deal with working after business hours, overnight or weekend. This, for a nurse like myself who has only worked in inpatient thus far, is great. I also love the level of autonomy that is afforded to me. This is an aspect that was lacking in my prior jobs. 

Great training opportunities and great co-workers who really care about the clients we serve.  That is evidenced by the fact that they work for below going rate or lowest possible rate of pay, yet they are exception at their job and could work anywhere.  Raises are based on merit and reviews have to be nearly perfect for that to happen.  
Management has had to be challenged by documentation from the ADA, provided by different staff to comply with disability law.  They have have become hyper focused on "funding sources", requiring more and more paper work and less and less quality of care.
