In the medical office it was exciting, challenging and a fast pace office which made it fun. I would schedule appointments, collect co-pays, enter patient information, file, fax, answer multiple phone lines and train new hires. My favorite thing was being able to get to know patients and making sure that they got the best care from the moment they walked into the door or called for advise.  We worked as a team and helped one another.  There was nothing that I didn't like about my job and most of the patients had became like family to me.  The hardest part was having to leave and move away.  I really enjoyed everything about it.
ER Registration/Comm. Tech/Patient Access Specialist was fun, busy and exciting.  Here I did a variety of things such as registering patients, collecting data, verifying insurances and collecting co-pays, placing lab, radiology and respiratory orders into the computer and making sure that each order was followed through.  I would have to admit patients from the ER, Doctor Offices, other hospitals or transfer them to other departments in the Hospital.  I had to multi-task and help the ER staff when needed.  The hardest part of this job was having to witness deaths or traumas.  Again I enjoyed this job but had to leave for personal reasons.

The other employees who work there. There is care and compassion amongst co workers

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is a lack of appreciation from upper management. The parent company is in Tennessee and knows nothing of the type of care expected of Montanians, which gives the impression they really don't care about CMC Missoula at all. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Family, you have to love your job and co workers to stay.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Frustrating,  never knowing what changes are happening,  lack of communication.

I appreciate the cleanliness and warmth of the building when I come to work each day.  Fellow employees are so friendly and it is welcoming to see them in the halls, even if many of us do not know each other's names.  Unfortunately the culture has changed drastically in the past several months due to restructuring and there is a large divide between the employees and upper management.  The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing my coworkers each day.

Usual struggles of a smaller community hospital,  need the ability to staff up to demand, but often short staffed.  Same staff step up to help, causing fatigue, those who favor work-life balance, create disparities in the work distribution.  

Middle management is variable - some are really good and responsive, Some seem to have favorites, and feels a little like "mean girls".

Senior leaders are really available, not necessarily as helpful as you'd like but always present and engaged  - much mores so than most facilities.

A typical day at work includes checking billing, stocking and placing drug order based on predicted treatments of patients. Cleaning hoods, mixing premeds, chemo and nonchemo. Filling pyxis and some nursing areas. Ordering and stocking materials and supplies. Performing daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties.
 I reallly enjoy my coworkers and the work itself. The most difficult part of the day is when it slows down to much. I enjoy the fast paced busy days best.
 Management is supportive and good at recognizing hard work.

Benefits are horrible with only 3sick days per year allowed

Favoritism and inconsistent policies and procedures

Depressing and stressful with little to no training

I worked there for many years and the culture is now in the toilet.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was always major stress and lots of acci'm ability with no backup.

On average I would care for 6 patients. I learned a lot about recovery of OB patients, a new experience for me. The core staff was extremely supportive and helpful. The nurse manager was also supportive and allowed us to self manage. The hardest part of the job was the call shifts but that has been resolved. I enjoyed my coworkers a great deal.

I felt valued, I loved my coworkers, my manager was great, and I enjoyed the work I did when I actually got to do my job. However, I occasionally felt taken advantage of when I was floated constantly. I also felt underpaid, and like there wasn't much opportunity for advancement in my position. I loved the flexibility in shifts and how easy it was for me to schedule time off or get coverage in advance. I would have stayed if not for the pay.

I was happy with my job first as Intensive care nurse/charge nurse night shift for 3 years and then as the Employee Health Nurse Manager. I had good people to work with that were supportive, my job was very demanding but I perform better under some stress. I found my position to be challenging, interesting and mentally stimulating to me. I did learn many new things while on this job.
