At first, they were one of the better paying but now they fall short for this area. Other places offer less expensive benefits, better 401k, disability insurance, paid holidays, shift differential, bonuses, annual raises and more money for working in harder homes. This is also a "for profit" company. Any extra money DOESN'T go back into staffing and better homes/fully equipping them/ having comfortable furniture/good quality food for the clients, it goes into the hands of upper management to improve their lives while working at CSG. They feel it is more important to get top of the line cell phones, luncheons, free coffee, comfortable office furniture, fully equipped offices and good working computers, etc. for upper management than a comfortable bed for overnight direct care staff to sleep in. The staff in the offices get paid more than the direct care staff. Upper management also has access to disability insurance while the direct care staff are the ones at risk for injury. Priorities are so mixed up and and as direct care, you will know it.

When you work as a direct care staff, you will find yourself doing everything and anything you can imagine for very low pay. You will be greatly taken advantage of and not be thanked. Their is total lack of communication and professionalism. Their is also extreme favoritism to the point that they are treating you unfairly.  You will be so busy and receive no appreciation but be given more tasks if you are one of the responsible employees. Staff get away with not doing their job because their is no one to fill their position. Staff are being pulled from one home to another because of the staff shortage. You will find yourself working alone and being put at risk for injuring yourself due to lifting clients that require 2 people. Other client needs get neglected due to being short staffed and you will get in trouble for not being able to do the work of 2 staff for 3 or more clients. Don't speak up as you will be labeled a trouble maker and your words are in vain as no concerns are never addressed.

There is extreme negativity and morale is low. You will find yourself with great intentions and good work ethics only to find your most of your coworkers doing a sub par job and getting away with it. This in return will beat you up and burn you out as you can only do the work of others for so long until you end up completely frustrated. I have heard management make the comment that they can't make these sub par staff do their job because if they quit, there is no one to take their place. 

The Vision of this company sounds great but the truth is above. You decide if this is a place you will like to invest your valuable time in.

The infrastructure of this company is riddled with liars! I worked with the company for almost a year and was constantly in a state on anxiety due to the lack of enforcement of the rules and core values. I'm not sure where these raving reviews are coming from but they sure aren't from actual employees! W4+-+-hen I first began I was put into medicine training which lasted a little over a week in a half total due to the supervisors starting late constantly or constantly being interupted. I was then tested on my medicine passing abilities by performing 3 supervised med passes ( all were done with supervisors, only one of the three was an actual licensed nurse!). I was then let out onto the floor to pass meds. I did make mistakes, I will not lie about that, and I was reprimanded for them and re-taught the on how to pass meds. However, when I reported med errors that other employees had made nothing was ever done to reprimand them! In fact I was put through the motions when I reported the events and then everything that happened to them was swept under the rug! When I called on-call to ask if I should give a medicine or not because I was not sure, I was told to give it to her, however when I came in that night I was again written up for a med error! I refused to sign the sheet stating I had done nothing wrong and from then on out was constantly being watched and doing things incorrectly. I watched supervisors give the ok to thrown Hep C infected water out onto the grass next to the living area. I heard supervisors talk about residents like they were disposable and not worth anything. When there were monthly meeting and the head honcho was there she would never tell anyone that they were doing anything well, it was a constant bashing of the employees all the time and putting the incompetent supervisors on a pedestal. When I asked to take a resident to get new clothes because she needed them I was told the resident had no money in their account to do anything with. This was false as the resident had just received a check for over $200. Another resident was waiting over a year for their rent rebate and still had not received it.Also, the company had the nerve to tell us that since they had taken a budget cut they were taking back two days of accrued paid time off from every full time employee to offset their costs. You were NEVER allowed to do overtime, also if you had to stay late because of a person coming in late they would go back into the computer and remove that time so that it looked like you just worked your normal 8 hours. All around this company is run by incompetent people who don't know how to do their jobs with respect and dignity.

Don't waste time work for other companies. Lowest paying around. No raises no bonuses. staff that been working  a few years making more than someone  been there over 10 years. If raises are given, they are  very little  same is given to the person that has been there few years as person that been there for 10. No incentives to stay.Not enough staff - good time off but can't use it  no staff to cover shift anymore. Have to work alone  when your not supposed to be. Makes staff very tired overworked. Don't be sick will have to work anyway. Work overtime they still want more. never enough. House Supervisors work many hour often 7 day a week. no upper management wont help to fill in the house open hours.  no problem asking you to work over 60 hours week but they won't help out. No communication between the office and houses. All  guessing game but don't do something wrong even though you have never been trained on how to do it. Favorites get away with everything. Awake shifts sleep on job don't do their work. don't matter because they work shift. not enough money for food supplies but don't make too cheap junk to eat or they complain. Poor supervisors have on call with cheap pay. work all day then call off and then work all night. upper management will still ask them for more and don't understand why they all mad. upper management won't help on call. they just ask why can't be at work after you work 24 straight hours.people who live in home hurt you and be mean and nothing done about it. staff late all time and not get in trouble. have to wear mask all day but management comes  without mask on. no cleaning liquids need to bring own mask, run out of gloves paper towels. staff are put out at risk management don't care and do nothing to help. I am looking for new job.

I worked for CSG for about three years. I gained a wealth of information during my time there and gained valuable experience that I have been able to take with my in my current job and am grateful for that. However, I worked in a clubhouse and found that while that model is good for clients, it is very taxing for the staff. Staff were expected to engage one on one with clients from 8AM to 3:45PM with no breaks and lunch was expected to be taken with the clients as well. There were no “staff only” spaces therefore they could not get away for a mental health break at all. Other CSG locations were often short staffed and we were forced to work for weeks at a time in other locations that included a minimum one hour drive to these locations. There were very high expectations set for staff but often times there was no time allotted to work on these tasks that were expected of us. 

The upper management was very “cliquey” and seemed to pick and choose what rules applied to some staff and didn’t apply to others. Staff were asked to be trainers within the company but received no extra compensation for doing so and still had to fulfill all of the same responsibilities as other employees. There wasn’t much room for growth either, which was a reason I chose to leave.

The pay is pretty decent for human services and the PTO hours were generous however staff had to use personal PTO hours for holidays. CSG does make an effort to observe and appreciate different cultures and backgrounds which I appreciated. 

CSG is not a terrible company depending on where you work. Overall, the burn-out, high expectations, high turnover of staff and inability to advance is what led me to leave the company. 


In the interview they make it seem like you're going to get a highly flexible work schedule with a supportive staff behind you to help you make it work. They make it seem like you're going to get all this PTO. The reality is, they only care about you making your billable hours and when you don't make it, you lose your PTO.  It doesn't matter if it snows. It doesn't matter if your families are just refusing to meet - and because it would look bad, you can't discharge them as quickly as you used to. You also have multiple holidays that you are forced to take PTO for. You used to be able to just make sure you hit your week's billable hours on the other days of the week but they changed that. They also demand you complete a massive amount of paperwork within a tiny amount of time to the point where you are doing half of it in sessions with clients. How am I supposed to pay attention to the unspoken dynamics in the room to effectively do family therapy if my nose is in the computer? You feel like you are always set up to meet impossible expectations and standards. It's okay if the management likes you because they will just overlook it. The moment you don't tow the party line, they will find those errors and use it to fire you. They will also fire you if you start having health or family problems. I couldn't stay in a company which pretended to be open and encourage real feedback while the whole time firing anyone who spoke out against the impossible standards and demanded better treatment.

Come to work, read Staff Log to get up to date on the residents as well as what has been going on since the last time worked, follow individual recovery plan of each resident to make sure they are staying on track, administer meds to residents at their assigned time, mark down all recovery progress as well as med intake. Interact with each resident and teach them life and problem solving skills.
I learned how to successfully respond to chaotic situations, adapt quickly to an ever changing environment, and show more compassion to those who differ from the norm.
Hardly any interaction from management, our supervisor is only in the office 9-4pm, staff comes in to relieve her shift starting at 4pm. Usually working individually to care for up to 6 residents at a time.
Co-workers- we have gained team building skills from one another to deal more successfully and cope better with the constant change in environment.
The hardest part of the job is being stern with the residents, as many of them are much older than I. It has however, taught me to be much more stern and independent but in a way that affectively benefits all.
The most enjoyable part of the job is helping those who many would not care to help and giving them a chance to see that they can learn and succeed in life by giving them unconditionally encouragement and just having a friend when in need.

Working in a group home can be challenging, but also very rewarding. The individuals we serve are fantastic! I have learned so much while working here in a relatively short amount of time. There is always something new to learn, and the company offers tons of paid training. They also offer career advancement programs throughout the year.

Some homes can be a bit more challenging and hands on than others, and the company knows this, so they give a $3.00 per hour boost on top of the base pay. If you work overnights or weekends you get an extra dollar on top of that. 

I was able to advance from a Direct Support Professional to Supervisor in a relatively short period of time, so advancement opportunities are definitely there if you are a compassionate and professional employee.

The base hourly pay is on the lower end versus similar organizations, but the differentials, reimbursements, health benefits, and the PTO more than make up for it in my opinion. 

Most of what I've listed above are pros to working here. In all honesty, the clients we help to support, and the vast majority of my coworkers, their support, and the positive culture is what keeps me here.

The biggest negative that I would have to say is there are some managers who can be a bit clueless, and end up either figuring things out on your own, or asking someone else to get solutions.

For along time i respected CSG. the supervisor at the house i was in .recormended me for the supervisor position when she was going to step down.  i was not ready for it quite that time.  I promised her i would apply if the nest supervisor did not work out.   She did not. We had not supervisor at the house i worked in.SO i became acting supervisor.  for a few years I worked under the APD.  when it came time for to apply for the position.   I was denied.  I did the position for no more money. I did it for the ladies who lived in the home.
They would continue to have very good home structure.   So i did it.
When it came time for .for my advancement to become the offical supervisor it was denied.    I was way more qualified then the person they hired for the position. I did the work without more pay.
Not even the possibility to see how i would do. it was denied.  my non selfish work was totally ignored.  i had to train the new supervisor.  for she did not know.   upon carefully considering other options.
i decided my well intentions was much more honored then that.
So i left.   For along time i liked CSG. then it got worst.  managment very poor.  good people who knew what they were doing left.
advancement was not always fair.  some well earned employee were not seen as they were qualified. not just my position. others.
Some employees took advantage of CSG. and that was ignored.

  While its may depend on the location, CSG can be a wonderful place to work but the amount of unprofessional conduct and rule breaking is very high. Depending on who breaks what rule and who wants which rules enforced.   Some employees can have frequent absences, late arrivals and bring outside issues into the workplace without consequences, while others will be required doctors notes and be written up[ for the same actions, even if less frequent.  No incentives to go above and beyond. Raises are not based on actually effort, reliability and results but rather everyone gets a raise or no one does.  No Christmas bonus, fake money used as "reward' system that only allows someone to buy company "swag" which should be given away which should just be given away as a means of advertising the company rather than an insulting way to "reward" someone for spending real time and real money to assist the company.  A general attitude from upper management that everyone is easily replaced. Very little hands on training (mostly videos with a few mandatory classes)    This is a good company for the 1st timer because they will give people a chance without experience but unless you are promoted, do not expect raises, incentives or motivations to go above the basics of your employment.  Starting pay is well below state and national average . 


This place is a joke. Employees get away with so much, it's absured. Changing the time they are scheduled until, no ambition, totally lazy. They have no idea what teamwork consists of. My supervisor puts in so many hours, including overnights almost every night and they have yet to hire anyone. They took an employee from us for a different area when we are already shorthanded. It is the same 2 people picking up hours and it is exhasuting. I wouldn't be surprised if she got sick due to lack of sleep with absolutely no support from the company itself. They then have the nerve to talk about alloted hours and overtime yet, this is something that cannot be avoided in a struggling house. They are all about the clients yet they allow employees to practically kill themselves. How can the clients get the care they deserve when we are exhausted? They cannot. No shift differential for overnight, no incentive, no consistency. If it wasn't for the clients and my supervisor, I would have been gone. The people in the office are completely useless and nobody has anybody's back. I am absolutely disgusted and appalled by the lack of empathy and compassion. Do not work here. We are desperate for help but don't do it to yourself unless you want to be completely overlooked, underpaid and overworked.
