CompHealth as a company is good to work with as a physician. The problem is the quality of assignments they get. Generally the assignments they have are average to dumpster fires.  By dumpster fires I mean a place that will put your medical license at risk with questionable to unethical working conditions. It is as if the worst places to work that no physician will work at come to CompHealth on bended knee to get a body in the position. 

A typical day at work is what a physician does, management is terrible at CompHealth and the workplace culture at corporate office appears to be one of dishonesty. 

The recruiters make a living by selling the assignments. They get the assignments they get and need to sell them. This is where the seemingly nice recruiters become bad used care sales people. Selling an assignment they probably know is below average to outright terrible. They will do or say whatever they must to sell the assignment. Therefore the recruiters can not be trusted. If you can’t trust your point of contact then what is the point of working for CompHealth. It is garbage in garbage out type of situation. 

I have worked for several locum companies and I have never worked at a terrible assignment as I did with CompHealth. When I brought up the issues my recruiter lied to me and took the side of the hospital.  Remember who is paying and who CompHealth works for.  It is not the physician, it is the hospital. ConpHealth will ALWAYS take the hospital’s side for business reasons, they honestly have no choice. This can result in a horrible situation for the physician being caught between a hospital and a company. 

I advise any physician looking at positions at ConpHealth to never take an assignment with them. It is too risky and there are better companies to work with. Is it really worth your license? Do you want to be put in a horrible work situation with no assistance as you are an independent contractor and not an employee? Remember many laws to protect employees do not apply to independent contractors. 

If you do go with CompHealth at least talk to a lawyer first and have one on speed dial WHEN something goes wrong. 

A typical day at work is no different than any other hospitalist position. 

I learned to never accept an assignment from CmpHealth, they purposefully do not divulge important information about the assignment, have a bad “street rep” in the physician community and are the worst locums company I have contracted with. 

Management at the hospital I was contracted at was borderline competent. The management at CompHealth will do and say whatever is necessary to keep their client happy. The client being the hospital, not the physician. I learned the hard way that management for contracting companies are dishonest and not professional. 

Workplace culture at the hospital was just okay. Not good but not bad. Below average from my other jobs but not the worst I have heard of.  The workplace culture at CompHealth appears as it is composed of vultures. 

The hardest part of the job had nothing to do with my actual job, being a physician. The hardest part was dealing with my recruiter and management at CompHealth. I had issues with a Vice President of Physician Relations at the hospital I was at. It wasn’t that big of an issue but I brought it up with my recruiter and his manager. My job went from decent to intolerable. I was targeted by administration at the hospital and it was quickly became obvious the hospital and CompHealth were in this together. There were specific details I only discussed with my recruiter that the VP became aware of. The only was that was possible is the recruiter communicating that information.  Completely unprofessional and betrayal of trust. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was serving patients in an underserved area and ENDING MY CONTRACT WITH COMPHEALTH. 

In no stronger words can I not recommend any physician take an assignment with CompHealth. After my assignment I asked several physician colleagues what they have heard about CompHealth. I also did a google search for CompHealth reviews including Facebook.  I wish I had done this research before.  What I found out was far worse than my experience. 

Stay far away from CompHealth!!!

this company used to live by their core values, putting people first, continuous improvement, integrity and ethics, etc..... They still mention it in almost every meeting but I feel that it's not just something they say and not really live by. Even after their employee opinion survey skewered CompHealth they still have not made any of the changes that people had suggested that could help them stay competitive. In just the last 4-6 months CompHealth has had many tenured sales reps who have been there for years leave due to this awful culture. After covid hit in an effort to keep as much business as possible they issued a mandatory 250+ calls per week. even to reps who had been there for 25 years! These reps who operate mainly off of emails where they get on average of usually about 40 calls a week but with a 3000 day book of business have to make the same amount of calls as brand new reps who have no business. This company will not change unless upper management changes. Just a bunch of good ol' boys who have been with the company in it's hayday not accepting the fact we are not the best anymore because we have not changed or adapted. This is now a call center with no culture. It used to be a great company but now just struggling with change they won't accept....

I must say that I was placed in an awesome laboratory with great Technologists, but my experience with my employer was horrid. In 8 months they have changed the travelers handbook thrice, have made extensive promises they can not keep and place traveling professionals in substandard places to live. If you get a paycheck that is accurate consider yourself lucky and expect to get nickled and dimed to death.

I have had two different "managers" covering my assignment both of which have no idea what a Medical Technologist does other than we work in a lab. No one at CompHealth has made a visit to this work site or ever performed a face to face with this client but seem to think they know everything about the area, living and social conditions and environment you are being placed. You would think such a successful business would have a QA department or atleast a provider support department instead of giving us a "manager" that has no clue. Traveling to a strange place with no support system other than your "manager" means placing a lot of trust in someone you dont know and this company doesnt understand that concept...they are our life line and at times never even return your phone call.

If you are not a Doctor or working for a contact that is paying CompHealth top dollar beware of the support and service you receive or lack there of.

CompHealth assigned me to a variety of jobs as a physician.  Most positive, a few very negative.  Things changed when I came under the "control" of a new rep.  He told me that I wasn't qualified to work urgent care when they had assignmed me to various urgent care clinics over an 18 month period.  I tried to get a two day Urgent Care assignment through CompHealth with a clinic that I had worked for many times (in urgent care) .  The rep told me I was not credentialed for urgent care and killed the process.  Cost me a great assignment and $2400.   

What kind of company approves credentialing for 18 months and then claims that the doctor is not credentialed for urgent care and kills a job opportunity? !    He also told me that as an Internist (even with extensive experience in urgent care) that CompHealth's insurance would never allow me to work in urgent care again even though the mal-practice insurance company allegedly approved me in the past.   I have No claims.  No complaints.

Don't sign up with this company because they may turn around and bite you on the  butt.   You are nothing but a pawn when you work with CompHealth.  They do have a lot assignments available but be aware that you will be working with bullies.  And after you leave CompHealth you cannot get another assignment with any company they introduced you to for TWO years !

They own you lock stock and barrel..

A  typical day at work - helping doctors get things ready for them to work, overseeing the process, working with internal teams regularly. Marketing (emails, calls, texts) they have everything available for you to be successful.

I have learned how to work in a healthy company culture, how to give and receive feedback in a safe environment, and how to be successful in this role.

Management is wonderful, they want you to succeed, they ask for feedback, and they are understanding. My leaders have all be amazing. They receive a lot training too.

Workplace culture is one of a kind, we all help each other, we work together, and have fun too.

The hardest part of the job is building your business in the beginning but you get the hang of it quick. Plus you get a ton of help. Also, not getting emotionally attached to assignments when they don't work out with a physician/hospital. You wonder if you could have done more.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the people that work here, flexibility, leaders, basically everything....

I finished residency, and wasn't sure what to do next. Did locum assignments for a year.

Pros with locum - traveled to different locations, made wonderful friends, saw how different health facilities worked

Pros with CompHealth - very efficient with paperwork, pay checks deposited regularly, responsive to travel crises (broken down cars, change of airports), happy with accommodations, friendly staff

Cons with locum - some sites are terrible with temporary physicians (I.e., poor orientation, onerous call schedule).  Also, work is not steady (May have a month off before getting an assignment.).

Cons with CompHealth - mixed feelings about the physician recruiter. Was aggressive in getting jobs for me, but also was aggressive in pushing jobs that I did not want or that made me uncomfortable. My locum experiences were positive, until against my gut feelings, I accepted one ill-fitting job.  However, these tactics must be industry-wide, as recruiters from other companies have treated me the same way. Advice - check worksite out before agreeing to the contract. If your intuition tells you to check out, get out!

I worked for CompHealth for almost 4 years as a Locums Doc.  Multiple rural placements across the country.  Compensation was lower than it should be, which means they are keeping more of the money *I* am earning.  That being said, my recruiter worked hard to get me placements that I truly enjoyed for the most part.  He made sure I had appropriate housing (apartments or small homes...not sleazy hotels) and that my travel was covered (including private vehicle mileage).  Malpractice with tail is part of the normal contract.  In addition, if you request it, the credentialing department will use your CV to fill out most of your credentialling documents, assuming that it is reasonably up to date and thorough.  This will save you countless hours of YOUR more valuable time in the process.  The ladies in credentialling were very kind about it when I requested it.

Always remember, the recruiters ultimately work for those who pay them...the hospitals, not you.  Negotiations will always be to CompHealth and the Hospital's favor, but win-win solutions can be had.

I had a very negative experience with this company. From the start, I felt misled. The databases are disorganized, and multiple representatives often end up calling the same hospitals for different specialties. Clients quickly become overwhelmed by the constant outreach. There’s absolutely no coordinated marketing plan in place, and calls feel almost like cold calls.

New employees are treated like disposable resources, and turnover is extremely high. When new employees quit, the senior reps are the ones who take the deals. CompHealth claims to know what they’re doing, but their approach is ineffective. Some people send out 200-300 emails a day in a spam-like fashion, hoping to catch someone at the right moment.

There’s no effective CRM system, and the information provided to clients is unhelpful. The focus seems to be on simply making calls to hit quotas.

Overall, this was one of the worst jobs I’ve ever had. CompHealth emphasized emotional selling over addressing legitimate needs, and the sales process felt high-pressure and manipulative.

Started out as a great experience.  The pay was very good and my travel, rental car, and lodging were all provided.  I only had to pay for gas and food.  I was receiving outstanding reviews from the hospitals where I was working.  I devoted a considerable amount of time to the company and missed two consecutive Thanksgivings and Christmas with my family.  I felt I had a great rapport with my representative at the company and felt supported.  Unfortunately, when there was a conflict with hospital administration and unsubstantiated allegations by a sociopathic staff member whom I had expressed concerns about, CompHealth did not want to hear my side and sided with the hospitals in terminating my assignments with the hospitals.  As a result, CompHealth severed all affiliation with me at a time when providing locum tenens services was my sole source of income and when my opportunities were limited due to the rise of Covid-19.
