What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In hospice no day is typical, varies based on patient needs and meeting schedules

First of all, I'm a prior service veteran that respects a managerial chain of command. My immediate manager was used as a "pawn" between the nursing staff and upper level management. Whenever I went to her with a problem, it was never conveyed to the Director and above. Another RN and I  were hired as RN Case Managers because 2 RN Case Managers QUIT the same day (high case loads). I was never given actual case manager training rather I did ride along  with 2 existing case managers. 2-3 weeks later, I was called into my director's office and was "advised" to become an Admissions Nurse. This position meant a 11% increase in pay but a salaried position. My Case Manager job was dissolved. I went to a "premiere" location for my training 1 hour away for 3 weeks (completed  maybe 2 admissions packets)  where instead of doing admissions training I was the "plug & play" guy doing fill in work for nurses that were sick, had day care issues etc. When I returned to my local office I was paired with another Admissions Nurse where I did my training we would go see patients where there was no GPS or cell phone service. The work was EXPECTED to be done. I told my immediate manager that 2 days a week I had day care issues and I had to pick up my daughter by 6 pm; she said I could that. WRONG. The hours where not 0800-1700 every day rather 0900-1800 or 1100-2000. My director said if you got a phone call at 545 pm and you were off at 6 pm, then you would go so that patient. Some locations 1 - 2 hours away (responsible for covering from 6-12 counites using your own car) , a 1- 1 1/2 hour patient intake then another 2 hour computerized entry  So actually you were working not a 9 hour day but a 14-15 hour work day on salary. I told my director in a private meeting that some employees were working like 18-20 hours a day (0400 - midnight)! The straw that broke the camel's back was the Director's insistence that we as Admissions Nurses SELL the Hospice benefit, a $27,000 Medicare reimbursement; kind of like selling life insurance to a dying person. I submitted my 2 week resignation over this practice (although my manager called me into her office and told me that day 1 of my 2 week notice was my LAST day) as well as working 15 hour work days and filed a written complaint with their Corporate Compliance Director for Unethical Business practices. Only take a job with this company if you're single, don't have a life, or enjoy a S&M mentality. Greed driven company>>>STAY AWAY.

Terrible experience, do not apply unless you want to be overworked, stressed out, have no work-life balance, and be put down when you ask for help. Instead of the 4-6 weeks of shadowing I was told I would receive during the hiring process, I got two days. The rest of my training involved messaging various people trying to get answers. And instead of 40 hrs/week, I was working very long 11-12 hr days, and putting a lot of wear and tear on my car. New patients were constantly being added to an already overfull schedule. Little to no engagement, communication, feedback, or weekly meetings from management as per training protocol. Management never once checked in with me to provide feedback or ask how things were going. They never said thank you, good job, no support whatsoever even though they were aware of the high census and were aware I was working long hours with no breaks. My coworkers noticed and thanked me, but not management. I felt invisible, unvalued,  and unappreciated. The amount of patients and workload was insane and unbalanced for my position, and when I approached management about it, I was spoken to harshly, put down, and told I should be able to do it all in 40 hours (and while they were advertising for a second staffer to help handle the workload). They have no interpersonal communication skills. I was expected to do time-consuming admin jobs in the office plus see several patients a day, many an hour away, which was impossible. While driving to see patients, I would get  so many messages and calls  I would have to stop and respond to all the needs. I could not take a lunch because of all the demands. Some admin jobs were chaotic and disorganized with too people involved. My coworkers and patients were fantastic, loved the actual job. Management was the problem and sole reason I left. There is a high turnover and others have left for the same reasons. They are only focused on numbers and profit, not the patients. Wish I had read the reviews before accepting position. I did not want to leave, but had to walk away for my own sanity and health. It is sad and unfortunate that management chases good talent away.

I have never before worked for a health care organization that has such a HUGE turnover rate in staff,  especially RN's.  Within a matter of 4 months,  a total of 4 RN's were hired,  then resigned.  RN's are overworked and have a caseload of almost 18+patients. .   There is an Executive Director who makes working at Compassus EXTREMELY uncomfortable and doesn't acknowledge her staff,  only her 'favorites'.  A simple Good Morning,  Leads to really uncomfortable stares up and down,  to walking right by you, looking right through you,  like you're nothing.  Very belittling.  Emotionless. Just plain rude.   Not very approachable.  Making certain employees very uncomfortable with comments such as,  'wow,  you're wearing a dress today',  to 'you won't be needed anymore after today,'  telling a PRN employee this in front of staff in a sarcastically rude way.  Then there's the Director of Clinical Services who is CONSTANTLY complaining and cursing in front of staff because they have to go see patients for one of their RN's who are out sick or because there is no coverage.  Constant eye rolling because they do not want to take calls from patients,  pharmacy,  or someone requesting to speak to a supervisor due to patient care.  Constant complaining of paper charting and not being able to locate certain paperwork causing the office staff/medical records to  feel like they're not doing their job correctly.  Also very belittling.  Not very approachable.  Also very rude.  Makes the workplace uncomfortable.  Walks around upset all the time. The constant pressure to admit patients in a hurry with not enough staff, all for numbers.   How can management enforce the 'Open Door Policy'  to all staff if there's ever a need to talk,  or need support,  when it is nearly impossible to approach them.  The office environment is truly uncomfortable and negative,  and you can just feel it. Truly feeling management doesn't care for their staff, it's all for numbers. All patient care staff are truly angels,  just management lacks compassion.  The  hardest part of my  job was having the courage to show up every day, knowing I was not respected or supported.

In my position at Compassus, I have the ability to truly make a difference in patient's lives. Typically seen as a "sales role", Compassus has transformed what "sales" looks like. It's not about cold calling, selling our company, or even pushing our services. Instead, it is about how we can meet the needs of our community and our partners.
As far as personally, Compassus invests more time and money into its personnel than any company I've been with as an RN - in management or otherwise. They equip their employees with resources and knowledge while adamantly striving for innovation, excellence and a genuine belief in ethics and compliance. I am proud of the company I work for as our values, beliefs and ideals are in strong alignment. 
They are in a period of great growth and are committed to doing so with each and every employee at the forefront of their decisions. From local leadership to executives, our ideas are valued. They have made significant changes, improved processes, implemented and even created new technology based on ideas that were shared by employees even at my level. They encourage their   employees to dream and more impactful yet, they encourage us to share those dreams with our executive leadership.   
I will say that I wish they would incorporate their growth and clinical operations differently/more effectively. Whether that means allowing for a more cohesive relationship between the two or designing a model that allows for an RN in a growth position to be better utilized, l do believe there's a better solution. (Of note, this is already seen and implemented in programs where GIP is highly involved)
I look forward to being a part of a company that is on the horizon of continued growth who seems to truly value individualization, ideas, positive change and truly patient-centric care. I believe they are on the precipice of some truly magnificent breakthroughs within the healthcare community and I am thankful to be a part of their growth and future.

The other employees are all dedicated hardworking professionals who really care about the patients and each other

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The very corporate managers.  And there are a lot. No one “cares for who I am” they only care about the numbers. Quotas and admissions take priority over current patient care. Nurse directors only last a few months  there is some online training but it doesn’t prepare you for real hospice work. There are frequent mandatory meetings that are unproductive and everyone talks all at once. The marketers make promises that they know are not true, just to meet sales quotas and no communication between us and the managers from corporate. Also every manager you ask will give you a different answer. Very poorly run. No consistency and no work life balance.  And they flip out over overtime but there is no way to finish up in 8 hours a day. Very sad but this is the way hospices work any more

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hostile and aggressive with unrealistic expectations   Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.  High management turnover and overworked staff. We and the patients are just numbers

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Meeting, another meeting depending on the day IDG then you are expected to see 4-7 patients and update medication lists, educate patients and family, order meds and document in under an hour, travel to the next patient is often between 10 min to an hour and a half. Repeat, all while answering phone calls from patients and families and emails from managers. Correct errors in the electronic records, and another meeting.  On some days you can have up to five hours of meetings. Very stressful

I loved the RNs, HHAs, chaplain, and social worker, along with my direct supervisor and marketer and doc.  We worked hard, worked together, meshed well as a team, and as a result, always had a high census, while still providing great care for our patients.  

However, between the poor communication and poor leadership from Upper management, this place has become a very unpleasant place to work for.  Everything is now about the "Compassus Way".  Which, as far as I can tell, means they don't care about their employees work/life balance, they don't care for their patients, doing poor things to save money like only ordering supplies once a week to the office and making the RNs deliver the supplies. Have a patient with a new wound requiring special wound care? Well, that wound is gonna get so much worse while you wait for those supplies you requested to come in, if they come in at all.  Even when you give an exact item number along with description of the item, its a 50/50 chance what you actually ordered will not come. 9-10

Mandatory meetings are scheduled right in the middle of the day when you are most needed to be seeing patients.  They will hire ANY WARM BODY, it doesn't matter whether you can properly do your job or not, they will take you and keep you.

They always seem to be severely understaffed, even though we are supposedly not allowed over time.  However, with the high caseloads, you will ALWAYS be over time in order to give each patient the proper care and attention they deserve, as well as doing the other things required for great patient care, such as ordering supplies, ordering meds, changing orders, etc.

The patients we take care of at the EOL are amazing

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Stress level is beyond. CMS with their compliance rules and regulations have made this position next to impossible to do. Definately not for someone who would like to have a work life balance. Management is a nightmare.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It feels like you are in high school all over again. Especially if you are not a “yes” person because you don't allow the position rule your life. Management preaches work life balance, but only when it works to their advantage, not yours. At that point they start threatening you and if you still do not comply, then more rules are made up along the way to make it look as though you are non compliant so they can gradually steer you out the front door.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It should be your schedule that is made the week before and that you are hounded to get done. This ends up being wasted time because your schedule is very rarely how you set it up. Since they are extremely short staffed, and then call ins happen, you are “pulled” to see other patients because there are PTN visits coming in constantly and you are expected to see on top of your 5-6 pts you are already responsible for. If you don’t have an admission RN then you are “ pulled” from your patients to complete these as well. So a typical day is never typical, it is ever changing as the day goes by. This is also does happen all the time, it is more of the “norm” which should only be here and there, not every day. Very rarely do the pts get continuity of care…..

I worked there for 2 years. I never got any kind of training, or an evaluation, or raise. One of the top managers brothers runs a successful competitive company and we were constantly having to sign forms stating that we weren't working for him or sending him information. So lots of paranoia. Any complaints filed w HR were supposed to be anonymous but no one cares about confidentiality and would let everyone know who specifically complained so everyone is scared. Anyone raising questions about process or questioning certain managers will be labeled a snitch. If you get approved for PTO, and fall out of the family's graces they will tell you it is canceled last minute. Lots of abusive language and racism. The field staff have to work 2 jobs to make ends meet. There are not enough patients. Family members of top said manager get raises and promotions and extended lunches. There are 5 people working in the office directly related. Lots of distant relatives as well. Crying every day is normal for everyone. Be prepared for random office staff meetings where top managers burst into tears and you feel left out for being less emotional and volatile. You will be threatened. Maybe the company itself is good, maybe it's just the management. The benefits are so bad no one takes care of their health. Management makes fun of people with the company's health plan saying openly that it is terrible. Departments will gang up on eachother. Fighting is encouraged and will label you as tough. It will steal your sparkle and make you think something is wrong with you.
