Concierge Home Care

Home health agencies are always a mixed bag, but Concierge is pretty good overall. As with any home health company, you have to set your own boundaries. 

Concierge is made up of a lot of individuals who do actually care about their patients which makes it an easy company to work for. I haven't encountered any shady practices that make me step back like I've seen in other home health jobs. My boss is excellent.

Cons: The biggest con is the fact that concierge does not pay extra for any oasis discharges, in fact they pay you a base rate (same as regular visit) for a whole oasis discharge which is completely criminal.   Low mileage reimbursement compared to government standard, they give ~.40/mile. Awful health insurance through the companys plan. NO 401k MATCHING. I REPEAT, NO 401k MATCHING. Bonuses are based on your documentation timeliness and acuraccy as well as your branch, meaning if your branch is so-so (including the utilization team which is more corporate vs branch-specific) then you get zero dollars of bonus even if you were perfect within their metrics. If you get a bonus they are very slow to pay it out, I'm talking 2-3 quarters behind. As with any corporate entity, there are changes left and right that can become somewhat tedious.

Pros: Number 1 pro is Dictation services for charting/documentation. Positive culture, decent pay (fairly average to slightly above average), management is somewhat-fairly receptive of feedback, good work enviornment, very ethical when it comes to patients which is huge for home health companies. Good star ratings for medicare. Corprate run without being souless like companies that get acquired by huge coporations. Corporate does want to do right by employees for the most part, so they will try to address pain points and optimize processes to make employees lives easier.  The company offers different types of employee hours ranging from full time, modified full time (24 "points" instead of their 30 for full time), part-time, and PRN.

Overall I still work for Concierge because I think it is one of the best home health companies and stand by the 4/5 rating. While they do have faults, I can rest easy at night knowing the work I'm doing is substantial, impactful, and ethical all around.

So let’s just start by saying that this company does not like to communicate, managers pretty much just respond when they feel like it and it’s ridiculous. From the beginning it was all lies. I was told straight to the face of the manager that the insurance was amazing, the best come to find out it’s $640 a month for just you as an employee and that STILL doesn’t cover much... Work life balance AMAZING right? I tell the manager about my situation, I’m in full time school, single parent, I need the flexibility. I was assured I would be given flexibility. This company wants you as an LPN to be “on stand by” until 5pm in the afternoon even though you’re only paid per visit and not paid on call pay, ON TOP of having to see patients, come home and chart, make your schedule and call your patients for the next day. There is no true work life/home balance, they expect you to be at their beckon call. And they talk bad about you if you don’t take extra patients on top of you’re already full schedule. God forbid you refuse to take an extra patient. You’re required to be on a weekend rotation but they do NOT give you a light schedule during the week of your weekend you’re supposed to work nor do they offer a day off during the week. They just expect you to work 12 days in a row. If you’re new, expect to be put on every holiday weekend PLUS an actual holiday following that. There’s too much nepotism as this company and it shows. The schedulers are rude and have no sense of direction, you’ll be put in five different areas in one day crossing over paths of other nurses and it MAKES NO ETHICAL SENSE. This company only cares about making money and not taking care of their employees. Since I’ve been here in the past three months SEVERAL people have quit or transferred to another office because the DON is running it into the ground. 

I love home health nursing at Concierge because of the autonomy and flexibility. I make my own schedule and if my work is done correctly and timely, my supervisors are happy. Since I only see one patient at a time, I get to spend time with the patients and it makes me feel a sense of purpose. I'm not doing the typical bedside nursing tasks, rather treating the patient as a whole. I get to see the environment they live in and adjust the care plan accordingly to help them be more likely to achieve their desired outcomes. 

The leadership team is wonderful, if you do your job and do it well, they recognize it and they are appreciative. The leadership team is supportive of my career goals, and they want to see me succeed. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to spend one on one time with the patients and I can set the pace. If it takes an hour to complete the visit, management isn't harassing me about why it took so long. They're supportive if I'm spending my time productively. 

The hardest part of the job is the paperwork and the drive time. It's very important to be organized and minimize travel time in order to complete the tasks assigned to you daily. If you're full time you're required to see approx 5-6 patients a day. Typical visits are a half hour long, I definitely work 8 hours a day when you include drive time and charting. 

We do have an on call requirement where I work every 3rd weekend seeing patients, but I'm allowed to take a day off during the week if I would like to. This can be challenging because I work 7-8 days in a row carrying a full case load. 

The benefits at this company are ok. Great 401K match, good dental, vision, and PTO, terrible health insurance. It's very expensive and the co pays are high. 

I do not recommend working here. The company is lead by people who do not care about their employees.  They have had alot of amazing employees including me that did my all, stayed late, went above and beyond and it was never enough. They always expect more, want more, fire and lose people and never replace them. They took away our bonuses over 6 months ago, everything is a secret. Last week around 7 employees lost their positions. They either lost their job or moved to a different position with no warning . a
After they announced this they didn't even have the decency to tell us which coworkers we have lost. The only updates we recieve are from each other. They have no training programs so everyone does their own thing, leadership does not lead and organize they just criticize and pretend like we should know.  This company has the WORST communication issues with their staff. I worked there for a year and finally left last week when they decided to take more of our members and fire them and then pile their work on us with no intent on replacing. Do yourself a favor, do not work here if you want healthy mental health. Toxic is the best way I can describe their treatment.  My coworkers are caring and hard workers but leadership in most areas just treat you badly. I hope they all find a better place to work so they can smile again

On the outside looking in you may think everybody gets along but most don't. There is a lot of shadiness that occurs in this company. The benefits are not good. There are no annual raises or bonuses for those who work in this position. There is no room for growth at this company although they have stated otherwise, to move into a higher/another position unless you are clinical. Training was an absolute joke. Management is untrustworthy, also if you tell them you have an issue with something they do nothing to resolve it but they sure act like they do. There is not a straight set of rules for everybody across the board. I have been able to observe that there is a lot of favoritism among the clinicians and not everybody gets the same treatment which is bogus for me because clinicians bust their behinds out in the field. There is so much disorganization within this company that I don't understand how they're still running. There is no culture here. I am truly hoping they get bought out by a bigger company so things can be set straight.

What is the best part of working at the company?
One of the managers was very supportive of caretaker's emotional health while caring for challenging clients. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Too many clients to cover in short period of time. One manager was very critical, judgemental, unsupportive and easily angered with constant threats of terminating caretakers without hearing all of the information of the case.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful, but personally fulfilling as you are caring for someone's loved one. The client's families often expressed their extreme gratitude to me personally. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy! Lots of responsibilities including medication administration and documentation of your work and client responses and all activities by both client and caregiver. Filling out reports was very big part of workday.

I really enjoy working at Concierge as a CTS. Its fast paced, involves critical thinking and problem solving, and there is always someone to answer your questions when you need it. Home Care can be very challenging and requires focus and dedication to succeed. It often requires you to think outside the box, which not everyone has that ability. Some days you don't get up from your seat. Some days you have the ability to break frequently. That's just the name of the game. That's where the support from your team comes into play. My team is highly supportive. I have their back, they have mine. If you cant be a team player and don't have focus, then this job is not for you. However, if you're looking to have a home away from home, if you are looking to be challenged, and have a great attitude, Concierge is the place for you.

Not a typical home health agency. Four plus zoom meetings daily. Corporate has no idea of home healthcare. Case Managers fill out redundant forms, incessantly call patients, double check other departments work to ensure payment. They are not concerned of the patients well being, only reimbursement. Field Nurses are making more than their managers. Those that are actually working in the company (higher ups sit at home and have zoom meetings all day) get no recognition, or respect. This is also not a parent/caregiver friendly company. If you have children, or a sick parent to care for (this includes school closures) you must use your vacation time and request off. Even though 70% of the company works from home, they do not allow Case Management to work from home. They offer a higher salary than most agencies but it’s not worth it. 

Little time for breaks, phone rings constantly and you are expected to attend meetings thru every break including lunch regardless of what is going on or the DCS will pop into your office and pull you out. CMs have 4 meetings per day minimum, mandatory on call up to every other week (usually 1 week per month though I was promised every 7 weeks due to staffing), covers field visits up to 2 hours away from the office if needed and have to call in to the meetings while driving. Sunday AM meetings. Christmas Day meetings. You get the idea. Field staff are wonderful and dedicated.  Work culture - eat lunch at your desk (or during a meeting) and don't complain about it. Constantly answering calls from patients to explain why field staff haven't arrived yet (no call-no show), or reschedule.

Concierge Home Care agency is the agency you want taking care of your loved one at home. If you love home care nursing this is the place to be. Flexible scheduling, competitive salary and great all around team to work for. Home Care is not for everybody but, if you have ever considered working in this environment Concierge Home Care is where you want to work. The CEO has mastered a plan for employee retention and is always willing to listen to your needs & make changes to help retain her dedicated employees. She is truly a Gem and has built a 5 star company that truly takes care of the patients needs in the home while retaining qualified and dedicated employees.
