The typical day was great after learning what you are supposed to be doing and all the ins and outs of your job.  

What I believe I learned is that this is a great way to get into the field and there are plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. There are multiple opportunities to advance and improve. 

Management is good, everyone wants to see everyone succeed and grow. The management isn’t always supportive in the fact that there are multiple sides to every situation and seem less willing to intervene when an issue occurs between employees or hostile environments where others are being singled out and put down.  I’m sure they are “doing their best “ however, there are repercussions for bringing light to situations that are causing internal conflict.

Workplace culture, there is definitely some kind of hazing happening in lower level positions, I doubt that management knows about it, it’s really tough to make friends, new people are usually put under much more than pressure, a lot of mental stress, and there is a very unwelcoming environment at first when you’re a new employee and it’s hard to bring it up or seems to fall on deaf ears. In the middle level and higher levels the culture is great, caring, supportive, uplifting and respectful. I enjoyed conversing with  nurses, doctors, and anesthesiologists more than my own team, just because it was more inviting and I didn’t feel less than or incompetent. 

The hardest part of the job is finding your place when you’re new. I’ve always been a great team player and have always been able to get along with naturally anybody, but it seemed almost impossible in this position.

The most enjoyable part is having the positivity and encouragement of perusing your own goals, not everyone is like what I stated above, most of the workplace is a great environment, great energy, kind, friendly, and it’s good being able to feel like you play a part in the whole puzzle.

 I would totally go back to Confluence in a heartbeat, just not the same position!

Okay the good:
*The people that are good are GOOD. These are people who want to be here for the community to help people and have a genuine passion for healthcare. They also recognize a fellow good coworker and help them feel welcome as well as confident in their training. 
The not so good/bad:
It’s easy to feel like a shiny new toy upon hiring when everything and everyone is new and nice. In roughly a month, if you’re lucky to make it that long, the toxicity begins to leach out and true colors are shown. Thus, forming a pecking order of sort begins while everyone figures out where the new person belongs in the hierarchy. Very high school environment. Doctors that expect their MAs to be quick with their job of rooming/discharging patients also while performing 75%+ of the providers tasks for them, leading us to feeling burnt out quickly for long days and little pay. Patients that verbally abuse us and management does nothing but a “how could we have handled this next time” conversation. Managers playing favorites. A whole lot of demands and not enough thank you’s. Mental health day? Never met her. Sick with covid? 10 day, possibly paid, mandatory quarantine, no at home work (reasonably-ish).  Some nurses can work from home and have a shorter quarantine period. Providers? They can work from home and they quarantine for an even shorter period than nurses. Always feeling like management was lurking in the shadows waiting for you to make an error. Political. Regardless whatever scenario  I type out, it almost always pointed to the common denominator—> management/upper management. I honestly don’t know why it’s so hard for the upstairs to understand that a high turnover rate might indicate that something is wrong with their system and workflow. Better conditions, better pay, better environment and place to be.
 I had high hopes for this place and it’s sad to feel this way. It has such great potential with the right leaders and listeners. 

Confluence Health has all the potential to be Wenatchee Valley’s top employer but they fall short in every category. The company fosters toxic environments by promoting nepotism, failing to hire diverse groups of people, and paying below market wages because “we aren’t on the other side of the mountains”. Cost of living in Wenatchee is just as expensive as large suburban towns in WA. However the HR/Compensation departments will use this tired story to refuse to pay people fair wages. Everywhere you turn, someone is related to another person, someone is best friends with your manager so there is an undertone of secrecy and cliques everywhere you turn. Even when providing open honest feedback about co-workers or managers in what has been promised to be a confidential conversation, you can count on someone knowing. If you are an outsider coming to this company, your work/life balance will be challenged because of the need to work twice as hard to prove your worth. But if you’re lucky, your mom is a manager or your dad is a doctor and you’ll be able to get paid for spending hours on social media, yelling at co-workers, taking long lunches to go shopping, getting pedicures/manicures or even drink on the job! Once you do this for about 6 months, you’ll get promoted in to a higher paying job with even more responsibilities! If that’s not your dream, you could just become BFFs with your manager and get all these benefits and more all while you bully those around you, because that’s always fun. I hope someone shakes this place up soon but I know it won’t happen. All the “good ole boys” aren’t going anywhere any time soon.

I usually start my day at 7:00AM and my first patient is at 7:10AM.  I start by logging into my schedule at which point I go over it to see the type of visits I will be seeing, f/u vs new patients vs pre employment PE vs CDL's.
With new patients, I make sure medical records are available from either ED visits or transfers.  Make sure I have reviewed and have available tests/studies I have ordered that will need to be presented to the patient during their visits.
I make requests to my MA about getting any information that will be needed or changes to be made to my schedule.
After each visit I often times start and finish progress note from the visit I just finished and then move on to the next patient.  This process goes on throughout the day until it gets time for me to go home.
I get an hour lunch and I have the opportunity to go home and care for my dogs.
My day ends usually at 5:30 PM and before I leave I finish with notes of the day and make sure that there are no more patients that may need to come in to have PPD reads.
That is about what a typical day at work is like for me.

Confluence Health is the organization created by the joining of Central Washington Hospital and Wenatchee Valley Medical Center. The monopoly has had a negative impact on health care as a whole for the valley and for both facilities as an employer. Employees of both facilities preferred their working situations before the affiliation as did the health care consumers in the Wenatchee Valley. Benefits and wages have deteriorated because the leadership has control of the whole local job market. There are good people from both organizations who strive to do good work, but the expertise required for management of a large organization is lacking in all levels. The  current state of disorganization may be explained by growing pains which are solvable by conscious investment in experienced leadership from outside, but the problems of monopoly are likely permanent. Confluence Health needs to be more concerned with real solutions for patients and employees than with mere impression management.

Small city and proximity means decent work/life. Some of the fastest internet in the country and almost zero work from home days is very inefficient.

Who your Manager is makes all the difference. It bounces from Fantastic to Terrible in just a few feet.

CEO still practices. Not sure what is worse, a half time leader with  focuses elsewhere (Not on employees or company values) or a Doctor who doesn't focus solely on the patient.

Procedures are done at a lower level of quality and care than nearby Seattle or Spokane, but for higher costs. As an employee, you receive no benefit for working at the organization that is helping you be healthy. No discount on drugs or health care. And health care costs are higher than the other surrounding large companies like Stemilt, the PUD, and Alcoa. When employees go 100 miles out of their way to have procedures from other organizations, you know there is a problem.

Would be an easy thing to straighten this place out, but as is the case for much of the city, there is corruption and back scratching at every turn. So much potential, but great ideas are shot down every day.

Its a big hospital that seems to always be focused on money and budgets. 

They care about patient outcomes, but fail to realize that happy staff makes happy patients. Unhappy staff.. makes well you get the picture. 

Patient care needs fluctuate day to day but staffing is always based on heads in the bed, rather that how much work is required per patient.

CNAs don't get paid enough, many have said they could leave and get paid almost the same to flip burgers. They have a difficult job being pulled every which way all times in the day.

Staff turnover is very high and constantly short. Not good for patients.

The cafeteria is horrible. The discount is only 10%. The food is overpriced. All the healthy food comes in single use plastic containers which is a big burden on the environment. To go containers are all Styrofoam. They don't even have regular coffee cups anymore, instead utilizing single use Styrofoam cups or the typical starbucks cup with a plastic lid. Very disappointing. Breaks are only 30 minutes and there are no other places to eat nearby, so if you don't like the cafeteria, the only other option is to bring your own food.

I have seen an incredible amount of changes over the last 10 years while working for this organization. Confluence Health has been in a constant state of flux over the last several years with the decision to join Central Washington Hospital with Wenatchee Valley Hospital and Clinics and it has been difficult for many of the staff.  For non-clinicians it is a great place to work as long as you are not in a management position as the wages and benefits are good and one can have a well balanced work/life relationship.  In a non-clinician management or above position this good balance goes away.  Most Managers are working 50 to 60 hours per week and some are doing more.  Although the salaries and benefits are competitive the stress levels are very high leading to a lot of movement or changes within these types of positions.  Loved working with my staff and with the Providers in order to give the best patient experience possible.

What is the best part of working at the company?
easy work, most of the people there are easy to work with but there are some that say "that's not my job so I can't help" even if it falls under job duties. management is easy to work with as are the providers

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
working with people who don't provide a name when answering phones, it is not a human thing to do in my view, but unfortunately, since covid and the after-effects of masking, it is all too common. Also, the pay is lower than all other clinics in the area. Some of the policies like not allowing employees to look in their own chart is weird too.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
workflow is fast-paced, and stressful most days. I think people respect one another, but policy changes are steaming stress and burnout.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
stressful. can't wait until 5pm to go home

Hospital is in debt. Management is getting rid of staff who do not see eye-to-eye with management. Not allowed to question changes. Getting rid of experienced personnel and replacing them with new graduates(this is nursing staff) to care for very sick patients. This process has has everyone upset including the hospitalists. Director of Care Managment is constantly making changes, wants the department to work as a team, but does not allow any input from any of her staff in re: to the changes. Throughout the hospital, morale is low, productivity and efficiency is down. There have been a large number of lay-offs over the past 6-months. If you are not a "yes person" then you either change or you go out the door.
