I joined Congressional Federal Credit Union in September 2024 as Chief Brand & Transformation Officer, and I can say without hesitation that this is one of the most meaningful professional experiences of my career.

A typical day involves leading strategy across brand, marketing, business development, digital and member experience. But what makes it different is that the work is genuinely connected to something larger. This is not a place where transformation is a buzzword. It is the daily work.

What I have learned here is that culture and brand are not separate things. The strongest brands are built from the inside out, by people who believe in the mission, trust the leadership, and feel that their contribution is seen. I have found that at Congressional.

Management is engaged, communicative, and genuinely invested in getting this right. The CEO leads with clarity and conviction. The team around her is talented and motivated. The hardest part of the job is also the most honest: we are moving fast, and pace creates friction. That is real. But it is the friction of building, not the friction of standing still.

The most enjoyable part is being part of a transformation that future employees will look back on as the moment this institution became what it always had the potential to be.

Things have changed a lot since I started here — in a good way. With new leadership at the top, the energy and direction of the company feel completely different. There’s a clear vision now, and the changes being made actually make sense. It feels like we’re moving forward with purpose, not just reacting to problems.

I feel supported by my leadership team. They listen, they check in, and they’ve got our backs. The environment moves quickly, and things can shift fast, but there’s also stability in the people around me. My coworkers are great — solid, kind, and helpful — and that makes a big difference on the tough days.

Work-life balance is respected. The hours are good, there’s no pressure to stay late or be constantly “on,” and it’s easy to take time off when needed. There are also real opportunities to grow, but you have to put in the effort. If you show up, do the work, and keep your eyes open, you can move up. I like that. They even offer tuition reimbursement, which shows they’re willing to invest in people who want to stick around.

This isn’t a perfect place — no job is — but I see progress, I feel supported, and I believe in where we’re headed. That counts for a a lot.

Over the past several years, Congressional Federal Credit Union has undergone a meaningful transformation and it shows in every part of the employee experience.

One of the most noticeable changes has been in leadership. Management has become more open, more transparent, and genuinely focused on listening. There’s a clear effort to understand what employees need, not just from a productivity standpoint. Feedback is no longer just collected, it’s acted on.

That shift has had a real impact on morale. There’s a renewed sense of energy across the organization, and people feel more connected to the work they’re doing. It’s the kind of place where employees feel heard, valued, and motivated to contribute.

Simply put, people enjoy coming to work. The culture feels more positive, collaborative, and forward-thinking than ever before, and it’s exciting to be part of where things are headed.

The pay and benefits are minimal.  The expected workload is unrealistic, unless of course you’re in management, and have the luxury of delegating all of the extremely time-consuming work to others.  There are members of management and upper management that have no problem yelling at you, insulting you, ridiculing you, and threatening you; using manipulation and favoritism as guidelines.  If these individuals have targeted you for elimination, they will quietly have you cross-train newer employees regarding many of your own daily tasks, making you more easily expendable, and then invent a way to get you out the door.

This is all unfortunate, because many of the other regular employees are wonderful people.

If you’re seeking employment with an organization that offers you a real future, look somewhere else.

The organization has a strong passion for providing services to its members. Even as a smaller financial institution, it produces a lot of great services. This is due to the passionate staff that perform work day in and day out. While some staff members have been with Congressional Federal for decades, and are the foundation, there are also a mix of newer staff that reinvigorate team members. This organization is very diverse and I hope that minority team members can continue to grow with the management team. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with other functional teams and develop products that meet the needs of the customers. There are limited resources but they do what they do to keep the train moving. I encourage individuals who are looking to start out their career to apply for open positions or if you looking to expand your career. 

Culture within Member Services was excellent and I worked with dedicated people that genuinely wanted to make it a better, more efficient place. Schedule was great for work-life balance. Unfortunately, upper management was a revolving door and whenever improvement started to gain momentum, everything halted (sometimes for months) while things changed hands. The website and mobile app are absolutely broken and have been for years and your whole job will be giving people workarounds.

 I had my own room to do the microfilming with out any interuptions.

when staffs need something and they will let me know and I will help them to get the copies of records when they needed.

I learned many new task that require for my job, visa system to do address changes on the acct.

Hardest Job was trying answer the phone request , because it was hard for me that I'm hearing impaired.

Management, I get along fine and have no problems .

I enjoying do microfilming and doing account researches for members when they needed something , check copies, statement copies, etc.

See above, low pay, low tech, operation. It's a non-profit, filled with people just collecting a check. But, if you want a low pressure environment, with not many growth opportunities you should find a home here.

At my time at Congressional Federal Credit Union, I had a wonderful experience with the staff personal. All of the people that I shadowed and worked with all had great work ethics and a fun and friendly spirit. This environment not only made it easy to get comfortable, but learning also became enjoyable.

I loved the people within my department but the rest of the company, especially HR, is a dumpster fire. They play favorites and create a hostile work environment.  Great, hard working employees are passed over for promotions and instead their incompetent friends are promoted. Huge turnover rate. Most of the company has quit.
