Never had a job quite like this.- You have to be excellent at what you do to make it long term with The Connor Group. Absolutely a numbers and results driven company. Can’t say enough about how hard the employees work on a daily basis. Great group of individuals on the service side of the business. However, the more capable you are, the harder they will lean on you to pick up any shortfalls around the workplace. 

Management- Mostly unreliable and out of touch on the management/administration side. Management is poorly trained for the industry, most coming from completely unrelated backgrounds. Most have a tendency to be completely disconnected from time tables and materials on the service side of operations. (Except for a select few of the seasoned management.) This causes problems between residents, service technicians, and office staff. 

Pay and hours- Hourly pay is much less than average for the industry. You will be required to work overtime for regular service pay. Emergency calls are handled as they come in, this means you may have to go in at 2:30am. If this happens you are told to leave early or come in late to make up for the extra time spent on the clock. During peak season this could total 10+ hours a week. 

Career/Advancement- Not much in the way of advancement. Recruiting sells it as an endless career opportunity with vast job diversity and career advancement with no salary cap.  Essentially there are only three job positions. Starting with Turn/Upgrade tech, Lead maintenance tech, and Regional Service trainer. Only 1 Regional trainer per market. Every market fluctuates over time. My market went from 6 properties to 3. Planning on going to just 2 this year. Only way for some to keep their employment was to go to another market. Turnover is the highest I have ever witnessed at workplace. I felt like management treated me more of a number that produced numbers than a valued employee. 

PTO/Sick leave- You do receive PTO/sick days at the start of employment. PTO is blocked from May to August, no vacation can be used during blackout. No summer vacation with your kids when school is out. Other than that, it’s competitive with the rest of the industry. 

Work/life balance- As a lead technician, expect absolutely none. You are expected to be available 24/7 for all property needs. This includes when other technicians are on call. All after hours issues handled by maintenance. Almost impossible to travel more than an hour away for fear of an emergency situation on property. Required to be on call during family emergencies and funerals. Management is unavailable after regular business hours. 

People/culture- The company has a great strategy to make employees feel valued. The owner is a very generous and down to earth person. However, the message gets lost in a trickle down from the top. In my experience the culture was built around your failures not your successes. You may exceed all of your goals and requirements for the month, but the focus will be on one thing that could have been better every time. This sentiment is stronger and more pronounced the farther you go up ladder. The standards for success very drastically from person to person for the same role. I was also held accountable for other employees shortfalls both on the office and service side. 
 
Overall assessment- You must lead from the front to be successful. This mentality only survives on the service side of the company. Very little accountability in the administration and office side of the company. They will be the first to identify a problem and the last to do anything to assist with rectifying the situation. Long hours during night and weekends for a 40 hour paycheck. On call rotation leaves no work/life balance. Pay doesn’t commensurate experience, craftsmanship, responsibility, or loyalty to the job requirements.

One aspect of the job that can feel stressful at times is the high expectations and fast-paced environment. However, it’s also one of the most rewarding parts of working here. What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day as a Lead Sales Associate is fast paced and focused on both sales performance and team leadership. The day usually starts by reviewing goals, following up with prospects, and preparing for scheduled tours or appointments. Throughout the day, a big focus is connecting with potential residents, giving property tours, answering questions, and helping guide them through the leasing process.

In addition to sales responsibilities, there is also a leadership component. This includes supporting other team members, helping keep everyone motivated, and ensuring the office is running smoothly. Time is also spent managing leads, responding to inquiries, and making sure prospects receive excellent service from their first interaction to signing a lease.

Overall, the role blends sales, customer service, and leadership in a dynamic environment where no two days are exactly the same.

Where I struggled the most upon entry is keeping my courage. With any job, especially sales - there are ebbs and flows. What matters is that you rise to the challenge, and never fail to show up as the best version of yourself. Utilize the multitude of tools, and show up to show out.

There is nothing I would change about my job here at TCG. And I cannot wait to see where my career progresses. This company always says “this job isn’t for everyone”. And it is absolutely true, but in the best way possible, and for the best of reasons.

Do Not Work for this Company/ Do Not Rent from this Company. You Have been warned. First off I would like to say it is an embarrassment to have ever worked for this company. Management is the worst i have ever seen. Never have parts to fix anything, equipment that we have to use to clean carpets, sprayer for spraying walls is garbage, old and doesnt work real well. Units that are vacant and that are getting rented out are garbage. Over my last week at the property i listened to peoples horror stories about their move in experience, or that they lived in their unit for almost a year and have had the worst time trying to get things fixed because the property never has any parts for units. I watched pipes bust one after another after another this winter and the cause of that happening is Management neglect. Pipes that were burst were in vacant units that either the heat was not turned on, no gas running to the apt. or parts taken out of furnace to fix another. The techs that work there were told no one is working in units that the heat is not working in because it was -22 outside, guess what we were doing, you guessed it out in cold units for 2 days. Or how about  when you are extracting water from peoples units because pipes burst and you get a text message from management " we need a carpet clean done for a move in" the answer i gave is no its not happening im extracting water, their answer to that was no this has to be done. they dont care about resident that already live on property all they care about is getting warm bodies in units anyway they can. When the residents were looking for answers to their flooded out apartments the answer management gave me to tell the residents was "tell them to call corporate on monday"  then they tucked tail and ran outta there as fast as they could. When people first move in to their apartments i can say that there is at least 5- 10 work orders that people complain about having right at move in. and the work order stack at one property is at least 200 work orders not completed in occupied units. They have  these values  called core values and some of these values are " Do the right thing, People count, relentless pursuit of excellence, these things look great on paper and the management is always beating this into the techs heads but who is holding management accountable to these core values? I could go on and on and on but i think that no one cares especially higher up corporate reps. Its a corporate machine that doesnt care about you or me.

My day typically starts by meeting with the property manager to go over any new tasks that may have come up and planning out the day or week. Morning to lunch time, I typically spend doing any priority service requests & getting apartments ready for move ins. Around 1, I  meet with my property manager again to check in and see if anything else has come up. After lunch, I spend the rest of my day completing any other works orders, property projects, or turning vacant units.

Since I’ve been with the company, they have been extremely invested in my development. I’ve been given many training opportunities and certifications to help me be successful. I didn’t know anything at all about AC units or pools a year ago. Thanks to The Connor Group, I’m very confident in my skills in both areas now. We are very close knit here and I have a dozens of people I can call and ask questions to diagnose different issues. 

Management is fantastic here. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many different property managers and all have been fantastic fits. I think we do a very good job at hiring the correct people and giving them the training to succeed. The higher up managers are also amazing. I always look forward to visits from regional managers and other higher up roles. 

Workplace culture has got to be my favorite part of the job. I believe our values here really drive the right people and are values to live by. I feel like I’ve met or know of half the company. We are very close knit even with employees from other states. I’ve made so many great relationships so far. We have awards banquets, property celebrations, market events, etc. All of which I think promote a great culture here. 

The hardest part of the job in my opinion is also the most enjoyable. Sometimes you run into odd maintenance issues that are a big headache and get frustrating. The feeling of putting a lot of sweat and time into something and finally getting it to work correctly has got to be the best feeling ever. I will also add the people here are right up there with most enjoyable part of the job. I’m ecstatic with the people I get to work with. 







so this job looked amazing in the introduction until i got to the property i was working for. from the start red flag after red flag.
 
1. they expect you to be a god with maintenance from the start with minimum training, if something goes wrong and its not your fault management will find a way to paint you as the wrong doer. i had officially one week of training for 7 months of work.

 2. the manager is not your friend. you will consistently get job scared because 90% of the time you have no idea what your doing and if you ask for help they act like your stupid and  do not take criticism well. if you effect there chance at going to corporate in anyway they will over work you until you quit or put you in situations that you are going to fail so they can fire you.not to mention being on call for maintenance when you have no idea what your doing is a nightmare. 

3. do you like to be over worked with little thanks ? this job is for you.  another tech and i had to for at least 3 months do all maintenance, turns, grounds keeping and trash, and it took us 3 1/2 weeks to get trash back to normal because of how badly backed up the trash shoots were to the point you could smell the trash from the third floor of the PARKING GARAGE so basically  4 days of the week your taking out and bringing trash cans back in. while trying to keep up with everything else and if you don't get everything done they have set up for you your treated as a waste of space.  

4. favoritism is a big quality of the management, if they don't like you they'll trash talk your name from the office while there doing nothing, countless times i would walk by our front office and hear them just trash talking about me behind my back and trying to pass off blame for problems they caused or were responsible for.

5. tenants are not people to management they are cash cows. if this company can find a way to charge or raise the prices for anything they will and will give two S**** about the tenants. that's why so many of ours left or are leaving. 

 bonus round: 3 people quit solely because of the manager and each time said manager lied to corporate's face to cover  for themselves.

Working for TCG has been an amazing experience throughout the 6 months I have been with them so far. 
The thing I absolutely love the most about working for TCG is the culture. They have core values, goals, and other mantras that everyone works hard to maintain and live up to. The culture promotes doing the right thing, individual accountability, and thinking long-term. Those ideologies keep the company aligned and always succeeding.
Another one of my favorite parts about working for TCG is the sense of team and family they give. Whether it be in the office, in our group chat that we share amongst our region, or through company events – everyone is a team player and always excited to encourage and see others succeed around them. 
I also really enjoy the clear expectations and goals I set for myself, and they set for their me, all of their properties, and the entire region. These goals all tie to each other with makes everyone work together, while also keeping a competitive edge. The goals they set are not only to make the company money, but to also make their employees money.
TCG also shows their employees the long-term goals and ideas they have for the company, which solidifies that they ARE growing and if you stay with them, you will grow with them also. 
I also highly enjoy the company meetings that we have either in-person or via pre-recorded video, and the awards ceremonies they host to recognize great work that their employees have done, and their properties have achieved.

I was told in the beginning of joining Connor Group that they had great benefits.  The longer I worked for them, benefits kept getting added on to it's already great plan.  
For having great results at our property, the CEO gave the entire team a whole EXTRA week of PTO of our choosing!  When gas prices went up, the company handed out gas cards to EVERY SINGLE employee in the company.  When the company had a good year, they surprised the employees with an extra early pre-Christmas bonus just in time to celebrate the holidays.  They added $500 to every employees' HSA cards the next year because they heard that was what the employees valued most. 
And all of this is just touching the surface!  When I found out that my unborn child was going to need special treatment out of state in order to survive, the entire leadership team lifted my family up in allowing us to take the unexpected time off to get him the care he needed.  While other families at the hospital were struggling to get the insurance to approve the treatment, my insurance was approved every step of the way.  Then when I found out that his condition was going to keep me from doing the work that I loved even longer, my area manager worked with the CEO to ensure that I was capable of taking the time I needed to keep my sweet baby getting his required treatment.  
Leaving a career that I had worked at for over 14 years for The Connor Group was the best decision I could have made.  The CEO truly leads the entire company from the front reinforcing that people do really count and they will do the right thing no matter the circumstance.  

• typical day at work: “sparkling” apartments… answering the phone… sending emails… paying bills… making sure service requests are completed… calming down upset residents… move ins/ move outs… inventory… ordering… giving tours… 
• I’ve learned a lot. They actively seek employees who don’t know anything about real estate / property management, so you aren’t expected to know everything right off the bat. It was HUMBLING when I first started. I was surrounded by highly successful people and I felt like I knew nothing. But fast forward 6 months in & I’m in a much better place. 
• management styles are different everywhere, but the 3 managers I've worked with have been awesome. Higher ups still intimidate me though. 
• workplace culture is…. interesting. I wasn’t a fan at first but I’m here for it still so. They’ll be tough on you, but they’ll also reward you. 
• hardest part of the job (for me) has been learning a whole new career. I came from restaurant management. At times I struggled with feeling dumb / not good enough. It has been a struggle but I’m so glad I decided to stick it out & give myself grace bc it’s gotten so much better with time. 
• most enjoyable part of the job: how much work there is to do & in turn how fast time flies!!! The days go by QUICK. There’s always something to work on. The company is organized as heck and has your schedule set up nicely for you to help manage all of the things you need to get done. You’ll never find yourself staring at the clock wishing time would go by. 

If you love a good challenge, appreciate being pushed to the best version of yourself and are not satisfied with comfort or the status quo, this is the place for you. We work hard and are focused on measurable goals; expect for there to be high expectations of you and really, be working the entire time you are at work. 

There isn't a lot of downtime or talking, it's all about focus on the task at hand. Meetings are brief and to the point and don't happen unless absolutely necessary. Face to face communication is prioritized over email or text, and direct feedback is king.

All that said: if you are willing to work hard and rise to the occasion, there is no shortage of reward and recognition waiting for you. From gifts (on a list you create and maintain of things you want but wouldn't necessarily buy for yourself) to bonuses and even the opportunity to become a partner in the company, there are many ways to feel success here.

It's not an easy place to work or an environment where you can just coast and do the bare minimum. But if you want a place where you go home each day with a sense of accomplishment and want to be surrounded by winners who also want to be their best selves, this may be the place for you!

Pros: Central Support Office in Dayton is dog-friendly and has a fully equipped gym and locker rooms with showers, gifts from your wish list, working hard and accomplishing a goal WILL be noticed and recognized by people across all levels of the company, a strong sense of purpose and accomplishment 

Cons: Can be long hours, have to be willing to take criticism to motivate  you rather than tear you down, direct feedback/honesty from others--these aren't all cons for me, but just the type of environment we have here. It's all meant to help you grow and strive for the next best thing rather than being satisfied with complacency.
