When I first began working here I told upper management that I was only available to work first shift. However, after a few months of working here I often experienced being asked to work overtime or work double shift. Although I was compensated for working longer work days I often felt resentful afterwards because it felt like I was coerced into working longer hours.  Saying no to working overtime was often met with managers asking for me to work overtime again and again until I felt like I had no choice but to say yes to their request. I know that it can't be helped that second shift was severely understaffed while I was still an employee here, but it did feel like my boundaries weren't being respected given that I had explicitly stated that I was only available to work first shift when I first started.
The facilities are kept clean to the best of the ability of the janitors and fellow CNAs, but due to how old the facilities were I experienced often that a patient's toilet would be clogged or air conditioning would break down causing discomfort for both the patients and employees in a certain wing of the building that I happened to be stationed at. During the summer when this happened, the hallway felt stuffy especially while wearing a mask, goggles, and face shield as required when working during the start of the covid-19 pandemic. 
Speaking of covid-19, the facility never had a case of covid while I worked there. However, I did not feel as though I was adequately protected. Disposable masks were provided for employees. However, the disposable masks provided for employees that should be worn once before being thrown away were to be worn for an entire week before getting replaced.  Because of this it was not uncommon for coworkers to try to bring their own masks only to be reprimanded because masks brought from home were not up to standards of protection according to upper management. At one point during a suspected covid scare, a patient's reusable dishware for meals were replaced with low-quality disposable dishware and tableware which would become soggy by the end of the meal to the displeasure of the patients.
My fellow employees were overall enjoyable to work with. However, we were often short-staffed to the point that I was left having to bathe, change, and clothe 16 patients by myself during a typical workday. Furthermore, a lot of the CNAs that I worked with were contract employees so I would see them come and go after a couple of months. Because I was one of the permanent staff I was given the heaviest load of work compared to the contract employees that I worked with. Even though collaboration did occasionally happen and is encouraged by upper management, I often found myself without help, which was difficult when working with larger immobile patients that require two people at a time to roll over. Due to the large workload, there were many days that I left work without having eaten lunch or having had a bathroom break. The big reason that I had to quit was because of the sheer physical exhaustion that sometimes left me almost falling asleep on the road during my commute home. 
I loved the patients that I worked with. I got to develop friendships and good relationships with a lot of the patients over time and often times they were the ones who tried advocating for me because they saw that I was being given the hardest workload and knew how hard I worked to meet the physical needs of so many people. The patients were the best part of the job and I know that they deserve way better care than what I was able to give them. 
Upper management did allow time requested off when submitted with ease which I appreciate and during training they did talk about how they were more than willing to provide time off for those who are experiencing burnout. However, it's hard to take up on that offer when there's a strong feeling of guilt knowing that taking time off will lead to harder working conditions for your fellow co-workers and a worse quality of care for the patients.

This location is the worst you could work for in your entire healthcare career. Lets start with upper management, The DON is an absolute nightmare they brought in because they had no other options. She will belittle you, be completely unprofessional, and ALL she does is come to the floor to bark orders. Then she goes and has her pow wows with her CNA scheduler who is sitting in the air conditioned office while the other CNA's are working 2/3 CNA's for 60 residents or better yet 1 CNA to change 60 residents on night shift. 

The administrator, the HR representative, and any of the upper management staff are completely useless in their own merit. Especially the HR representative, she will totally ignore your concerns, and will always side with upper management in fear she won't have a job. She was a receptionist that they just threw into the position, and anything of importance has to go through the DON etc. 

The benefits package is absolutely the worst and the most expensive in the area. You will pay big money to cover yourself, and a substantial amount of money to cover your dependents and spouse. To the point you won't have a paycheck left because their starting rate is so low for the area. And forget about retirement because they don't contribute anything to 401k's, or give ANY raises. What wage you start out at is the wage you will have until the day you quit or get fired. The only way you make money is picking up bonus time to make an actual livable wage for you and your family. AND the sign on bonus is a joke, after taxes its NOT WORTH IT. 

Some of the CNA's are great that work there, agency is usually snubbed and hated. But most of them are so burnt out from 60-80 hour weeks for threats of losing their CNA license etc that they have every right to be. Nurses are quite rude there and belittle you, they expect you to do treatments, they'll even get you to pass their medications, and will get into arguments over it. The staff is very clicky, especially since they hired mainly all the bad staff that was no longer wanted in Staunton. And bow down to the DON. The CNA that works over on the rehab unit will do IV's etc, do treatments, and pass medications. She's a wannabe nurse, just watch being around her because the state is keeping an eye if you're desperate enough to take a position there. 

If you take a position here there is no proper PPE, they hoard it for the office staff and for any guests that are permitted to enter the facility. And do not contract COVID, they will force you to take a mandatory quarantine, change your employment from full time to self isolation to get out of paying you. They will not inform you they are having mandatory state free testing and not inform you how to get testing until a week or so after you're not having symptoms. They'll do anything to not pay you, and will do anything to get rid of you if you're not doing everything they ask. 

The residents are great, they are very easy to deal with. They will make you laugh, have a good time, and enjoy what you can of this job. They are the only reason that I stayed longer than I should have. 
All I can say is RUN, go anywhere else that you can for employment. There are so many better facilities out there, and they don't deserve you as en employee. There is so much more that I could say negative, but I don't have the time to write a novel. 

I wondered why the salary was decent. 95k for a Director of Clinical Services (aka DON) and a sign on bonus (that no one ever gets). 
Every day was a mixture of performing functions that an Administrator should have been doing (state reportables, running meetings, staffing agency contracts, pleading with HR to do her job correctly and not waste my time), or being constantly interrupted by regional corporate people who sat around and socialized most of the day while barking demands, dealing with a consultant who was "trying to help" but was really just there because she was a friend of the new national corporate CNO. 
I guess the red flag should have went up when the Administrator who hired me resigned before I started in the position.  They replaced her with an interim who held no power at all,  was "just a license in the wall". 
Meanwhile the building is in special focus status with the state and the recent plan of correction was rejected, which also put another duty on the DCS plate; to revise and submit a new one.  This was all taken in stride until within 9 weeks of employment I was mandated to work the floor over and over again, until at one point I worked over 150 hours in a pay period.  Double shifts, no opportunity to complete any necessary nursing director duties...  
The profession of nursing is belittled and holds no empowerment to maintain resident safety in the building.  Any nurse working in a management position for Consulate will likely end up with a harm tag on their license. Never, ever enough staff and no empowerment to hire up.  The quote "HR Manager" is really a high school diploma educated payroll clerk that is given carte blanche to make decisions for the building and involve herself in issues that she is incompetent and unskilled to perform (because... really s/he is a business office coordinator w a high school ed) 
The company doesn't pay their bills so whatever vendor services are in place (and clinically or building maintenance based) will never respond or provide what is needed because of the constant corporate unpaid invoices. The Regional (RVPO's) are sloppy and apathetic which is why they were always changing. In 10 weeks, every single corporate person either switched regions or quit. 
Worst place I've ever worked in 20+ years in the profession. PROFIT BEFORE ALL PEOPLE. All people,  residents,  Staff, nursing care, vendors, everyone.

To start, much of the distaste with this company comes from many of the people chosen to work in upper management and directives given by Consulate. Many of their regulations and policies were only created and implemented to help their profits. As a company, this is understandable, but as a HEALTH CARE company, this can be hurtful when the policies put in place value money over the needs and wants of the population to which they are supposed to be serving. 

A typical day usually involved helping CNA's get their duties done (to the best of one's ability all while adhering to state and federal laws about qualifications and extent to which help can be granted) so that the residents and patients can begin their respective days. Many of the other employees usually welcome the assistance and generally tried to promote and encourage communication and teamwork; this goes only as far as staff and shift managers. Again, upper management DID NOT promote this. Much of the staff was left overwhelmed and very little could be done to address this. This taxed other departments to step in, without really being granted the tools necessary to be but so successful. 

Hardest part of the job was simply jumping through ALL the hoops upper management crafted about everything in hopes of finding some small reason to terminate employment. Standards for clothing, to proper ways of interaction, to specific time hour requirements (which they usually would over-ride to cover for call-outs and no-shows) was dictated and changed constantly based on the building administrator which made it difficult to really get used to and abide by them because the Administrator turnover was high (about 1 Admin per a year). This is very taxing on all members of staff and does not encourage a positive or even stable workplace culture.

The most enjoyable part of the job was with the residents and patients there, watching them either get well enough to be discharged or at least enjoy the retirement years as fully as possible (and being able to assist in such) truly was the highlight.

I worked at Skyline Nursing and Rehab in Floyd. It is the worst place you could possibly work. I worked there for a year and a half hoping things would change and get better, unfortunately they didn't. The pay isn't fair. CNA's are mistreated and talked down to everyday there. The administrator there is definitely the worst one they have had since I started working there. She talks to the nursing staff like they are dirt. She acts like she's better than everybody. She doesn't speak to us like we are human beings at all. She's also been saying that the CNA staff are getting pay raises, she first started saying that MONTHS ago and it still has yet to happen. The only reason I stayed there so long is for the residents I took care of and a handful of the other CNA's. Save your soul and do not chose to work here. I promise you will regret it. Every new aide that has worked there has either said they regretted going there or they just up and quit within the first couple weeks. The scheduler also doesn't work with you about your schedule. She just begs and begs for you to pick up more shifts. She doesn't care about your well being, she just cares that her shifts are filled as well as every other administrative staff member that works there. Also, the administrative staff will stay on your butt about any sort of trash being in the trash cans and they will tell you to pick it up. It doesn't take a CNA license to pick up trash occasionally but them as well as the administrator act like they are too good to do anything to help us on the floor. I almost forgot about their ROACH problem too. The maintenance man swore up and down everyday that that place didn't have any roaches. Then we started seeing them in the hallways, in the bathroom, in residents rooms, ON THE RESIDENTS MEAL TRAYS, ect. He still continued to state that they were secluded in the kitchen (I don't see how that makes it okay, but whatever)   and to this day I still continue to see at least one roach everyday. This facility is disgusting and all the administrative staff are liars and backstabbers.  I really hope you took the time to read this and I hope you don't get sucked into this facility like I did.

After much thought on the matter, and taking into account the events which have transpired over the course of several months, I find that my nursing skills, strong work ethic, and optimistic attitude are no longer appreciated by this facility.  
Since my initial hire date, I have performed the duties of each position that I have held with 100% dedication, doing anything that was asked of me. Most importantly and without fail, I have always placed the welfare of the residents above everything else.  
At one time I believed that the focus of Consulate Healthcare was to provide the very best care to those in our facility. I have been greatly disappointed for some time, and no longer feel that the overall well being of our residents is the facility’s highest priority as it should be.  
The total lack of proper orientation, education of staff and the backward approach to accountability when faced with an issue which is a result of such is baffling. Real accountability for problems which affect our residents such as major delays in treatment, horrific staffing, abandonment of duty, refusal to follow a direct order issued by a supervisor, and an unwillingly attitude by those in management positions to go above and beyond the necessary to ensure the comfort and safety of those we promise to care for is inexcusable. 
Consulate must worry less about doing things in order to prevent complaints and litigation, and stop taking action only when forced to do so in the face of issued discipline and fines. Instead, they should begin doing what is right, for no other reason than having a legal and moral obligation to do so with regard to those we care for. Our residents are more than a bottom line and a paycheck, and frankly, they deserve better. 
Consulate preaches its Core Values, and with the exception of multiple direct care staff who exemplify these values, I have yet to see those values in the day to day operations within our facility. I refuse to continue to be a part of a company that does not practice what it preaches.

Management are extremely rude and dont care about staff or residents. Treat staff with disrespect and use fowl language when they speak with staff.  You never get your breaks and you have to watch your time card because they will deduct 30 minutes for lunch break even if you never took one. The HR doesnt know how to make a schedule so half of it is left blank and people are stuck working 16 hours just about every day. The labor board has been there, state is there atleast once a month. Heard DON say, in front of residents and staff, that she didnt care about what was going on with the residents health but about what corporate was going to do. Also heard the activity director tell a resident she was to fat and demanding so she was no longer allowed to go out for activities, resident started crying and director just walked away. Its a very unprofessional environment. Building smells like urine, they have/had black mold and mice. They cover things up such as resident on residents and then the resident dies and they lie to the state. Staff neglect residents staff report to the state and somehow they lie and cover it up. Half the time the meals are still cold or burnt so bad that residents without teeth cant eat it. The only reason why i worked there as long as i did was because of the residents and some CNA's. Residents are aggressive but can be sweet at times and its at those times that i enjoyed taking care off them. Alot of the CNA's on 2nd and 3rd shift are awesome. Day shift CNA's are extremely rude they think they run the place and whatever they say management seems to back them over any other shift. That's the main reason why i quit. But overall its an aweful place, i dont recommend working there or putting a family member in that home.

I can't imagine anyone having a good experience here (unless your previous job was on an oil rig or riding the back of a garbage truck). If you have actual choices in employment, between Consulate corporate or somewhere else... This is your conscience telling you not to pick Consulate.

Jobseekers, be warned about the unhealthy, unproductive, and almost downright toxic dynamics at play.
Issues include:
* Severe lack of communication
* Extreme, overt favoritism
* Gossiping, backstabbing, distrust and disrespect among co-workers
* Ridiculous mismanagement 

In addition.... This company doesn't truly care about their employees' wellbeing. They only pretend to. Don't be fooled. 
They won't even let us work remotely during the international coronavirus pandemic, when the vast majority of companies are. Even some bars and restaurants, and schools all across the country are shutting down. Sadly, I'm not even surprised that Consulate has found a loophole and is making everyone--at least employees without any power--come in and put themselves at risk.

Consulate Atlanta department heads and execs are constantly emphasizing that we're all a "team" (or worse, a "family"), while in the same breath turn against one another and try to sabotage one another's job performance, reputation, and livelihood.

This company can be a decent place to get good experience, and the supervisors can be very kind... but in the end, much of that is two-faced.

There's so much more that could be said about all of this, but there's no need for specifics here. Consulate needs to change dramatically, or the turnover rate will just continue increasing...

I’ve worked with this company a little over a month and I already see that management is horrible. It’s too much favoritism being shown.
 I typically work doubles which is 16 hours shifts 3-11 and 11-7. Since I’ve started, we’ve been short staffed every night. We have anywhere from 20-27 residents by ourselves, which is very illegal. 
Management seems to not care about their night shift employees.
Nurses expect for the great CNAs to do their assigned rooms and then help the lazy CNAs do their work as well. 
You have to be a snitch and kiss management butt to stay employed in this facility. 
The building is nasty. I haven’t seen housekeeping cleaning any rooms since I’ve been here. I literally clean my assigned residents rooms whenever I work. 
I feel as if I’m underpaid for all of the work that we have to do. I was told I would be getting paid a certain amount in orientation but on my first pay stub it was way lower than that amount. They tell lies to get people in the door. Human Resource is always playing with the employees money. You have to keep track of when you work and etc. I worked a holiday and it somehow “got deleted” out of the system so I didn’t get paid for it. I went to HR and was told it would be on my next check as well as the original amount per hour I was told I would be getting paid in orientation. All lies! 
This company is by far the worst I’ve ever worked for. I just feel sorry for the residents at the end of the day.

I was told before I took the job that there had not been a records clerk for 9 months, but I thought I could make a difference and correct the problem.  On my first day I had no orientation, I was shown the records room and told good luck try and get it organized.  Within the first week I got some help from the nurse that was doing the MDS paperwork and some from the DON.  But I was hit with Corporate requesting copies of 20 records of charts (only certain pages) some of the charts were not their and some were. Trying to make copies and keep the discharge charts up to date was impossible.  Then within 3 weeks I was given the staffing phone to take with me from Monday morning to the end of Friday shift to make calls when staffing called off.  I was told there wouldn't be many calls, but I got very little sleep and trying to do the records during the day and make staffing calls was next to impossible.  When I left I told the DON that that position needs an assistant to help with calls and copying.  One person can't do what they required of that position.  I'm a pretty good organizer but that position was not something I could do without an assistant.  I enjoyed the staff they were very good to work with.  Some of them would not work with the DON for staffing but they liked me and would come in if I asked them as I didn't make threats to them as I was told by some of the staff that others did to them to get them to come into work.
