Cordant seems welcoming when they first hire you, but that quickly goes away after a couple weeks on the job and you realize that their culture is toxic. The management at all levels is terrible and communication is very poor across the board. Supervisors also have no qualms about throwing their teams under the bus to save themselves.

Low pay and no room for advancement whatsoever. They only give any benefits to the full-timers and hire everyone on contract (who get no benefits at all). Getting promoted to full-time is an iffy process that's never guaranteed, especially if you face contract loss at accounts (can happen fairly often depending on where you live).

Lots of driving around to get to work and none of it is compensated. It's not uncommon to drive up to 50 miles each way to get to work a day and you're stuck paying out of pocket for all of your car's fuel and maintenance expenses. Cordant is about as cheap of a company as it can get and they will always be trying to stiff you in some way or another.

Your supervisor will bombard you with tons of annoying and meaningless phone calls, emails, and text messages all hours of the day. You are expected to reply to all of them, even on your days off. Oh, and they also force you to attend their constant Zoom training sessions (again, even on your days off) that last roughly an hour a piece. Always covering the same lame generic topics too.

The will try to make the job your life, especially if you are full-time. They want you out in the field 40 hours a week (not including all the hours you spend driving everywhere), then they try to give you plenty of work from home stuff to do in the evenings and weekends. For what they pay, it simply isn't worth the trouble of having to do all this. The company is constantly pushing its people to take on more and more responsibilities, but yet keep the pay rates the same.

Cordant's company policies are unclear, annoying to access, and ultimately irrelevant, as they'll change them on the fly when it's opportune and be extremely inconsistent about who they enforce them on. Some people get written up for literally the stupidest things imaginable, whereas some others can get away with everything.

They will also lie to you a lot. Promises will be made to you about your job or pay or whatever, but it usually never happens. They do this to string you along and keep you from leaving (turnover for this company is some of the highest I've ever seen). Also, they will hire people for positions and contracts that don't even exist yet (and may never exist), so you can easily wind up applying for what you think will be a full-time job, but it winds up being a per diem/PRN contract gig as the contract/account they hired you to work fell through. Of course, they won't tell you any of that until well after they've already hired you.

Only work for this company if you really want to work in the healthcare industry and you don't have any other options. They're not a good company to make any kind of long-term career at. Get your experience with them if you want/need it, then move on and never look back.

Cordant was set up more like a facorty than a laboratory and you had to dodge your coworkers every 5 minutes because there wasn't enough room to move around. At its base the job wasn't too hard or complicated but training was inconsistent at best , and there were many things that workers just had to figure out by doing the job. Sometimes people just got thrown into the work without proper training at all. This was true in all areas of the laboratory. The job became more complicated and difficult because the machines were constantly having problems or breaking down, which prevents work from getting done. Or shipments for necessary supplies would not show up on time. Also, the job itself was extremely repetitive, which was okay at first, but it would quickly lead to injury for many at the lab. 

In addition to the machines issues, the samples the company receives are also problematic.  It can range from samples leaking/exploding to barcodes not working, and the accessioning teches have to navigate these issues while trying to maintain quota. Other labs charge clients for these deficiencies but cordant refuse to under the claim that they are trying to stay competitive.  This claim feels ironic when managers come to you saying that not enough work is getting done, and we are in danger of losing clients for it. 

In my time spent at Cordant, problems only multiplied instead of improving. The turnover rate became extreme. The company couldn't retain employees ,so they were left hiring people who didn't seem to take their job seriously.  There were constant call-outs on top of people coming in late and employees not wanting to do their jobs while they were at work. Since not enough work could get done there was a lot of mandated overtime which just led to the employees getting burnt out. 

Despite everything, corporate had unrealistic expectaions for the laboratory, and they didn't understand the details of how things operate on a day to day basis. The managers at cordant are unprofessional and disconnected. They are more focused on catering to corprate than taking proactive steps to make improvements. Also, communication is horrible at every level in the company, and everyone seems to be on a different page. On top of all of this, there was always high school level drama coming from every department . Managers played favorites and there was no on-site HR. If you had any issues, chances are you wouldn't be taken seriously unless you were friends with the managers. 

Managers don’t even speak to you, they’ll walk right pass you. They only talk if they want something from you. If you made a mistake they wouldn’t talk to you to correct it, they’ll go to someone else to do it without any explanation. Managers expect you to do multiple tests that takes hours to complete to be done in 20 minutes by yourself. They picked whoever gets a team lead position not because of experience, just because they like them. A lot of favoritism/discrimination. Coworkers is okay but they act like they don’t want to be bothered most of the time. Managers love to hide in their offices most of the day and get an attitude if you go in there about troubleshooting or an issue about something. Some coworkers would talk about you behind your back but smile in your face. They claim they been in business for 2+ years but they don’t got anything together! It’s not an official laboratory, it’s still in the drafts and they just building it up. Everyday it’s something new and always changing. It’s so unorganized and unprofessional managers look lost and don’t know what to do everyday. Machines be broken most of the time and barely have anyone to fix them so that’s a lot of missed turnaround times. A manager would look at the machine and barely fixes it and it be broken again within minutes. Lots of miscommunication but they expect you to know every thing as they throw you under the bus. And we stay being short staffed because they act like they don’t want to hire anyone nor make any improvements for the lab. Many people don’t feel welcomed here so I would advise to stay away. 

Pretty toxic. It is very clear that management picks favorites and makes it clear to everyone who the favorites aren't. You're not allowed to call out sick unless you use your PTO. Also you have to work a month and a half to accrue enough PTO for one day off, so I hope you don't plan to be sick and take a day off in the same month. They pile on responsibilities onto one person or department to make up for where other staff or departments are lacking without giving any increase in pay to the ones actually doing the work. You won't get bonuses, no pay increases for more than deserving employees, you can't move up, and the best part, corporate comes to talk down to everyone occasionally where they talk about how amazing corporate is, how they're expanding the company to make themselves more money, how they're promising you pay increases (that never happen of course), all while they refuse to even come into the actual working part of the lab because even they know how disgusting it is! 

Your coworkers will be great, talented, smart, deserving people, and everything else will be bad. Don't think about speaking up to management about mistreatment either, because then they will just try to avoid you, get rid of you, or just blatantly and obviously talk s*** about you to everyone else in the lab. 

Also you are quite literally not allowed to sit down because sitting down is lazy (obviously right) so you will be standing for 9-11+ hours a day doing a job that could be done sitting down. If you're caught sitting down you will get a snarky comment from management about being lazy or wasting time,  and then they will give you a long list of useless busy work just to get you on your feet. :) <3 

Cordant Helath Solutions provides a valuable service - drug detection for clinical providers to be able to assess and better treat patients. 

However, clinical and forensic toxicology is a competitive industry and in order for them to sustain themselves they have to keep costs low; and that is the primary driver for the company policies and culture. 

The testing they do is solid as is the science and technology behind it but they would do better automating the processes and assays than employing people where possible, and only only employing people if they were willing to do the same thing day in and day out: as they are data and dollar-driven and not a company focused on people, culture and innovation. This is reflected in their salaries and high turn-over rates. 

Understand, if you are applying to this company that it is a pipeline-driven and regulated industry. As such, certain professional degrees and licenses are needed to advance and even then you will do the same thing day-after-day in order to ensure the pipeline is functioning smoothly and work in subpar conditions and with subpar equipment.  

For some people, that is fine; for others, that is not desirable. 

No room for growth. Problems are swept under the rug. The lab is infested with cockroaches literally and figuratively. Director talks bad about his employees referring to them as "stinky" and "has mental issues" Supervisor gossips all day everyday. Working here was emotionally, mentally and physically sickening. They like to put on a show when the higher ups show up and act like they follow rules. But in reality all they do is socialize and gossip. No one cares about anything, management is the worst. Stay away from this place. No proper training. Supervisor doesn't even know how to do her job or how to manage the people she's in charge of.  They only hire friends and if you don't suck up, you will not succed.
They'll hire anyone who applies without checking their qualifications, especially if you're friends with management. This friendship will get you special treatment like higher pay and they'll blame the non friends for the friends' poor performance and mistakes. The building is disgusting and unsafe. HR is a joke too, they do not care about their employees or do anything to help.

I was brought in to help shore up addiction treatment for their products.  The area was new, but they stated insurance was secured.  Once in there insurance was not secured.  Had me then running from new priority to new priority as a focus, and because of this you had a hard time continuing relationships built.  This is a different market in this state and management did not want to hear about it.  Was placed on a pip and they fired me 6 weeks prior to end even when they continued to change the pip.  The upper management I believe means well in the long run, but there is no organization, training is barely a full working day, internal billing and set up of new client is like pulling teeth for information on what they want, and is always different.  Despite suggestions to streamline and make things consistent, that fell on defy ears.  You lost clients easily because of this.  You hope they get it because again they seem to want to do the right thing, but I would ask a ton of questions and DEFINITELY guarantees in writing before starting a position here.

A lab where you don't wear goggles?! The chemist in me shudders to think I put in a year and a half there. I had friends who suffered chemical splashes to their eyes. My fume hood was non-operational! Literally the only pro is that you'll gain valuable instrument experience. You can then use that instrument experience to get a better job at a better company that pays waaaay better.
They do not care about you as a person. Whatever you identify as, they will not support you. Any hunger to rise up the ranks, learn more, and take on more responsibility? The depression will squash that desire right out of you, and management will not support the drive, no matter how good you are at your job. However, mediocrity is rewarded! So if you want to be bad at your job, ruin the day for the shift after yours, and be in the same position for >20 years, this is your company.
Middle->upper management are out of touch. They have no clue how stressful the job is. They do not listen to or care about anything their employees have to say. They EXPECT overtime, but do not APPRECIATE the effort. And god forbid you need time off or to leave on time for any reason. 
Seriously, run, run far away before applying.

The work isn't hard. It really isn't. You just have to pay attention to what you're doing. There's a lot of shortcuts and other tricks when it comes to putting in the information needed. Efficiency is the name of the game. There was always something to do, even during covid restrictions dialing back our hours, but it was *consistent*, which was greatly appreciated.

Sure, there's days where the volume is overwhelming, but at least in the Tacoma location, the lab was a reasonably well-oiled machine. With leads always happy to help, and supervisors and immediate management willing to work with you on scheduling if you had other things come up, Cordant, as an 'on the ground' lab was fantastic.

My only real complaint is that the corporate side of things REALLY doesn't understand the work side, and generally has unreasonable expectations compared to the reality of what might come in.

If you want to get paid a decent amount of money, take the job but know that Cordant will expect you to answer phone calls, texts and emails in the evenings. They expect you to work out in the field at least 40hrs a week and then give you plenty of work from home stuff to do in the evenings and weekends. 
Most of the leadership team doesn't care about the employees and this company ONLY cares about the bottom line. I think they would get more out of their employees if they genuinely cared about the employee. 
This company is also in financial trouble or at least shows signs of it. They still haven't paid for a few lunches that I have done for them and there are plenty of other examples.

My advice would be to work absolutely anywhere but here.
