DCCCA's Management and the DCCCA Family (everyone who works here) is the most supportive company I have ever worked for. I have over 35-years of working with non-profits.

When my husband was very ill the amazing support and resources I received from DCCCA cannot be matched. My team jumped in and offered to help me however; they could. The employee assistance program was outstanding and helped me. Management was kind, caring, supportive, and extremely helpful. Everyone across DCCCA was so kind and caring checking on me often.

I have had the opportunity to continue learning professionally and personally at DCCCA. The company wide trainings they offer really do make a difference.  The benefits are excellent as well. 

I highly recommend DCCCA if you are looking for a place to be part of a Family/Team; want to grow professionally, and personally. 

Overall a great place to work.  The direct interaction with the clients is the best part.  Supervisors are flexible and allow me to practice my own style of therapy.  However, you have to find acceptance in that you won't get paid as much as other places, the agency doesn't have the resources that others do, and management/administration rarely considers the needs of the behavioral health department.  Administration repeatedly demonstrates either a lack of understanding, or worse, complete disregard for staff in behavioral health.  There are a lot of opportunities to work across the agency and have a say in how the agency does things (even though administration won't actually listen). Unfortauntely, behavioral health services don't work this way - I can't take an entire day off every month and travel to Wichita (who is going to cover my work/shift while I'm gone).  If you love therapy, can keep your head down, and focus on your clients, you'll love it!  If you're trying to be a part of something bigger, the behavioral health department is not the place to do it.  

Constantly filling, documentation and typing, interacting with clients and legal system. You were be helpful in keeping families together. Learned a lot about legal documentation and how the family court system worked. Interacting with the attorneys and judges made the job very interesting. Working with the different diverse families kept you on your toes. You learned how the different cultures react to crisis, discipline and parenting skills. I enjoyed this job because I was able to travel and meet all types of people. One of the things that cause my heart to ache was seeing the neglect and abuse that was going on in some homes. Its self satisfying because you can make a difference in people lives. We mad a different in the lives of many people.

This job needs to come with a warning label on the application. I have broken up fights, gotten called names, ect. It is a very intense experience. The management is okay, CONSTANTLY on your butt for things that you're already doing. I feel like my work is never actually being praised. They always stack more work onto my plate when I already have a ton to do... Compensation is okay. It should be more than 14/hr for the work we do though. Work life balance? There hardly is any. It is our responsibility to have our shift covered if we are sick, ect. We can't leave during the day for any appointments or anything. Not very flexible. Lunches are good but cost $4. The intake coordinator has zero empathy and is rude to the clients. As the first person you meet when you walk through our door.. She needs to be replaced. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
DCCCA has a wonderful and supportive corporate culture. They foster your talents and actively encourage and train leadership at all levels within the organization. After several different managers and jobs over decades, I have never worked for an organization so dedicated to their workforce. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some positions within the DCCCA are inherently stressful due to the nature of the work.  But this hard work is much easier when you are appreciated and supported by the organization. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Supportive and encouraging.

The pay is not excellent, and neither are the hours but it's decent for the lack of qualifications required. Really the only requirement to work here is to truly understand what we do. If you think our clients are equal to patients or inmates you're in the wrong field. These are people struggling with an addiction. It can be heartbreaking to watch, yet phenomenal to witness. The clients have to want it and it's our job to make this new transition into sobriety a little less scary. RSS work right alongside recovering addicts/alcohilcs in an inpatient setting: handing them sheets or talking them through tears. Requirements are stability and compassion. If it suits you, it can be the best thing you've ever done.

For the work I did, hard and very challenging work at that, I never felt valued. The job is supposed to be about helping families. But after being there for a year I realize it was just money motivated. On call 24/7 leaves no room for real work life balance. HR department was rude and snobby. I requested time off for self care, as working with abused children, sometimes you need a break. They wouldn’t let me return for over 30 days and only if I had a note from a therapist. I didn’t see them question or treat anyone else the way they did me for needing a day off. 
The work is overloaded and overwhelming and they don’t care. Just do the work so they can get paid!

Child welfare is a new adventure everyday. Being able to be flexible and also realistic in goals and expectations of yourself is going to help keep you satisfied with this career.  Being able to have open conversations is a must. Hardest part of the job is knowing you did your best but a child still goes into out of home placement. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing a family succeed and in a better place when you close them. Being on call 24/7 can be overwhelming to some but being able to set boundaries of  chaos doesn't always constitute a crisis situation. 

I highly recommend DCCCA for employment. They have a great working environment. Great management with passion and understanding. They appreciate their employees and make you feel like you are apart of a team. There is room to grown, they post additional job opportunities and have scholarships to help with schooling so you can reach your full potential with supervisors that are there to listen and help. Those are all bonuses, but the best part is doing meaningful work and being able to help children in foster care. I absolutely love my job!! 

monitor clients transport to appointments, check vitals and do observations, medication pass, answer phones transfer calls. They have their own clicks. Management not always concerned about the needs of the workers.Co-workers sometimes negative and controlling. Hardest part of the job is when a client is discharged due to dislike from the staff and over exaggeration. Most enjoyable part of the job would be reaching them on their level of understanding, and realizing I don't have all the answers.
