Working for the Head of Sales was a frustrating and often stressful experience. His leadership was marked by extreme unpredictability, with moods that shifted drastically, making it difficult to know what to expect from day to day. One moment supportive, and the next, he's critical or dismissive without any clear reason. This inconsistency created a toxic atmosphere where it felt like walking on eggshells was the only way to avoid conflict.

Boundaries were frequently crossed, and I was often asked to take on tasks that had no relevance to my role. This not only blurred the lines between professional and personal responsibilities but also created a sense of exploitation. It felt like there was a lack of respect for my time and boundaries, making the workplace uncomfortable and at times, degrading.

Despite moments where feedback or direction seemed clear, the overall experience was marred by erratic behaviour and unclear expectations. The inability to rely on stable leadership made it difficult to stay motivated or focused on my tasks, leading to unnecessary stress and frustration.

In summary, his management style is erratic, disrespectful of personal boundaries, and at times, completely unprofessional. I would not recommend working under his leadership unless significant changes are made to address these issues.

I would highly recommend HR reaching out to all previous employees who have left under his Head of Sales management in the last 2 years to seek feedback and understand the reasons behind their exits! 

A Typical Day at Work:
A typical day involves unloading and sorting parcels, scanning them for tracking, and loading them into delivery cages or vans. The pace is very fast, and you’re constantly on your feet with little downtime.

What I Believed vs. What I Learned:
I initially believed the job would just be heavy lifting, but I learned it also requires focus, accuracy, and teamwork to keep everything moving smoothly. Efficiency and attention to detail are just as important as physical strength.

Management:
Management is generally supportive, but they are very focused on hitting targets and keeping things on schedule. Sometimes this can feel pressuring, but it helps keep the team motivated.

Workplace Culture:
The culture is team-oriented, with colleagues often helping each other out. There’s a mix of different people working together, and teamwork makes the shifts go quicker.

Hardest Part of the Job:
The hardest part is the physical demand — lifting heavy parcels, repetitive movements, and working at a fast pace. Night shifts or long hours can also be challenging.

Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most enjoyable part is the sense of achievement when the workload is cleared and knowing you’ve kept everything moving on time. Also, working with friendly co-workers makes the job more positive.

Been working for dpd for nearly a year now first in stoke now down south, I like the freedom and being my own boss when I'm out on the road, although I'm not too keen on the don't do this and don't do that attitude of the management, it's all very overboard especially now with covid In place, parcel as to be placed on the freshold of the front door of a customer's house and can't be left in your hand while taking the photo of proof, customer can't shout out the window and ask me to leave the parcel on the step and collect when I have walked away, I know most of my customers very well and have had no issues with how I deliver my parcels in all the time I have worked my routes and you build trust and respect for each other, but the management have there you have to follow precidure attitude and that really irritates me as I see it nothing more than nitpicking and making an already stressful job more difficult than it really has to be, other than that I do like the job and hope to be working for dpd for many years to come.

I have been with dpd for two weeks as a linehaul driver.
It's been a hard to adjust from working a day job to night trunking. My first week I did about 60 hours and that consisted of nearly 40 hours of driving. The basic pay is £12.01 and hour and the night rate is between 18:00 - 06:00 @ an extra £2.33 an hour. Once you go over 40 hours a week you get a time and a half rate. 
I feel that you are just another body here and that staff in the transport office don't have the time or patience for new people.
You get a 2 day induction, but you may as well forget everything your told as the way they do things is different once you've started. 
I've found it easier to ask other drivers to help if you're struggling.
You can earn decent money but you will have to work long hours.
There is a lot of down time once you get to the hub as you could be waiting 3 - 4 hours for you load to be ready. 
It is an easy job and as long as you turn up on time and get your work done in a timely manner, you pretty much left to your own devices 
I have already applied for other driving jobs.

Its a decent job, the pay is good when the works there which is about half the year, sometimes more.  The staff and management were all decent people ,I never had any issues with anyone.  There's one issue for drivers though ,not all routes are equal, some people will work longer hours ,some won't get enough stops, and some will get a route that makes more money and finishes early, that's just the way it is, discrepancies anrt as dramatic as they were years ago, they're making changes to fix this. 

I'd recommend working there, in the summer its great, especially when you get to know your customers, I've been on my route for many years and always made an effort to to take care of my customers, because of this I made some great friends and created a friendly work environment and i genuinely looked forward to catching up with them. Now winters the not so nice part, but you rough it out, and when spring and summer roll around you appreciate it even more.
There's always chances to move up from with in regardless of what job you do, so that's a plus.

I was advertised a delivery job, expecting that my role would not extend much further than that. Instead, I was responsible for the upkeep of my van, all damage accosted, loading and unloading my van, filling the van up and making sure I deliver on time. That’s just to name a few. You feel trapped as a delivery driver, forced to work and meet borderline impossible standards for delivery times and delivery loads! I started on 3 minutes a stop and worked my way down to 1:45 minutes which I became good at. However they wanted me to reduce my time further which wasn’t possible given that in many cases you’d be delivering 5+ heavy parcels per stop. On some occasions you’d have 25+ parcels to deliver and that just isn’t possible in the short time they give you, thus making you finish even later. 

If you want a job that is mind numbing, requires little thought other than drive and deliver then the role is for you but if not, then go elsewhere. You’ll also be working 10+ everyday.

Only work here if you literally have NO OTHER CHOICE!! The management are disrespectful towards drivers, that’s just the culture there! Highly stressful job! I lost 8 kg in 4 months working here! I also lost some of my hair, and what I didn’t lose, it turned grey!! Lol the money initially seems good! Generally you’ll get paid £1 per successful stop, and you’ll have around 100 stops a day. But you don’t get paid for any parcels you bring back for example if customers not at home! You will also pay for any lost parcels or claims made! Any van damage or fines or tickets again comes out of your wages! It seems decent but it honestly isn’t worth it! You’ll go home with around £80-£90! But after tax that works out less than minimum wage for the hours you do!  You will feel absolutely shattered and not have any energy for family or life! Job truly takes its toll on your body! I now suffer from knee pains along with other issues such as back problems!

I worked there a few months but i struggled since i was a uni student and i couldn't commit all my time to it. Anyway, the job is fine except some major issues
a) The organization at the depo is poor you will struggle to find your parcels and sometimes you find others once you are all loaded up with no space.
b) You have to package the stuff yourself one by one which is very time consuming and to make it worse as mentioned you will struggle to find your parcels.
C)  You have to wait to find a chance to load your van and if people are slow then you will be forced to start your day late. Sometime when u find a spot somebody takes it by the time you get your van round.
d) Lastly your delivery is set around its own times so no matter how fast you are you cannot deliver beyond the set time making you wait sometimes up to 8 minutes a stop (Annoying) without this feature drivers would be finishing quite early.

Good place to work but my boss was a sausage, first trial day bloke driving got the van stuck on the first drop, had to go home, next day went took them same parcels out, all parcels were wrong address so we was delivering to the wrong house, boss came out, emptied the van in middle of the road re scanned them put them back in the van still the parcels were 4 or 5 addresses out of line so we had to make do with what we could do, got back to the depot about midnight. Driver mate left, boss said give me a lift home bearing in mind i was 40ish minutes from home.. he sat in the depot doing god knows what for god knows how many hours I honestly didn’t get home until about 3/4am. That was nearly a 24 hour shift on a trial day. Would of liked the job if the boss wasn’t such a ****.

They gave me a couple of weeks to get my delivery numbers up, so fair play for that. The stress levels are high, and you have to be fit. The balance between good customer satisfaction and getting parcels delivered is not always right, If you can last more than six weeks, you'll probably get on ok. The training is an appalling lip service to higher management vision of customer satisfaction, but in reality, you've just got to get the parcels out regardless. Is it the right place? No time to check, move on. Chaotic organisation that favours the sorters rather than drivers. I liked the job, but it was too much. If they gave you a chance to learn the route, it would be a lot less stressful. Having said that, it's a crazy time of year to be learning. Less than min wage, hard work, but enjoyable
