Delta Community Supports

I work with the community based programs in NJ and PA. We help participants navigate around the community, make new friends, learn new skills, locate and maintain competitive employment, feel like a valued member in their community. I sincerely love everything about my job and working at Delta. 

Of course, there are some challenges, like trying to find community outings that accommodate all of the needs of the participants we work with, but that's also fun in a way because we get to be creative and teach others around the community the importance of having an inclusive company/environment. There are also political challenges, but Delta is involved in committees and community groups that advocate for positive change. 

The workplace culture is awesome. My supervisor has high standards and expectations from everyone, and so do I as a supervisor and employee. I receive clear direction and support. There is a lot of trust because Delta employees follow through with their assigned tasks, give everything/everyday 100%, and prioritize the participants. 

I've been with Delta since 2016. I've learned a lot, contributed a lot, and have grown as a professional. Everything about my job at Delta feels the same as when I first started. It's still exciting, there are still fun challenging projects, and I still get to meet incredible people (participants we support, co-workers, professionals, community members).

One of the best memories I have is when I ran into a participant in the community while I was walking with my husband at a local outdoor vendor show. I previously helped this person get a job and he also received residential support from Delta. I was thrilled to see this person enjoying the same community outing as me. I was also excited to be able to introduce him to my husband and spend time with him at the vendor show.

It feels great to be able to say that I make a difference everyday.


I scanned other reviews for Delta and felt like I was reading about two different companies. But Delta has programs in many locations, so people really are reviewing different work environments. Delta is a large non-profit offering many services in two states, so people could have totally different experiences. My experience working for Delta over the past five years has been very good. I had my own business for years and worked for many types of non-profits. I worked for Delta part-time for a few years before becoming a staff member. Delta is much more sophisticated than most non-profits when it comes to measuring the effectiveness of its programs and the outcomes they produce for real humans. I've worked with managers and DSP's in different divisions of the company and have met many employees who are highly skilled and committed to helping those in need. I've also talked with clients and family members who were very satisfied with the support their loved ones received through Delta programs -- especially in the IDD residential programs and the foster care/adoption side. These stories make me proud to be part of the organization. Most other non-profits in this field don't come close to Delta's professional standards.The hardest part of the job is knowing that state legislatures control reimbursement rates for many services provided. Unless politicians have someone in the family with an intellectual disability or a relative in foster care, they don't put a high price on this type of work so salaries for direct service employees stay low. Despite this, many DSP's stay at Delta for a long time and their job satisfaction probably depends more on the individual people they work with, rather than the company as a whole. My two cents.

The clients are amazing. The company on the other hand...lets just say the state needs to come in and catch them off guard. This is one of the most unprofessional organizations to ever work at. They keep PC's that are lazy, rude, and extremely unprofessional because they have been with the company for 20+ years. These vets know the are not going anywhere and it shows in the way they treat their staff. The manager meetings are a true waist of time. They micromanage everything and dont listen to staff that work in the homes. They stay at the main office most of the week. That is a circus in itself. The pay rate is horrible and if you live out in bucks county you will definitely struggle. They say you receive healthcare but that is a long process and tedious. When you first start everyone in the office (that work in the office) will come into your training and hype folks up. The lies they tell. Many folks that work in the homes stick it out while working another job just to maintain. You have to attend meetings and heaven forbid if you are working your other job. They don't care, it is mandatory for you to attend. In this company you are just a body and once your body or health breaks down you are tossed out like trash. Be extremely careful if you decide to work here. In fact run fast and far to a better company.

This is a great job! I literally have fun everyday.The day flies by because you are constantly on the go traveling to different places and meeting with clients. 
-Management is very supportive with helping you with your cases and has your back.  
-The team culture is awesome. Everyone is always trying to help each other with their cases. 
-As an employment specialist, your typical day involves providing job coaching to individuals with disabilities at various sites. Along with coaching, you also help people to find jobs by meeting in coffee shops and working with them on their resumes, cover letters, mock interviews and assisting them with applying to jobs. 
-Everyday is different and you get to make your own schedule based on logistics, your caseload and your clients needs. Delta is very flexible with hours. Some days you make work 10 hours while other days you may only work 4 hours. As long as by the end of the week you reach 40 hours your good.

Look, I’ll be real—it’s not all sunshine. It can be physically and emotionally draining some days, and the paperwork is never anyone's favorite task. You have to be patient and ready to pivot when plans change. The best part is definitely the relationships. You aren’t just a "caregiver"; you’re a coach, a cheerleader, and sometimes a travel buddy. Whether we’re hitting up a local festival, working on a new cooking skill, or just hanging out and listening to music, the bond you build with the people you support is the real deal. If you’re a "people person" who wants a job that actually feels like it matters at the end of the day, give direct support a shot. It’s rewarding in a way that most office jobs just aren't. If you can handle the "poverty-level" entry wages for a year or two, the experience you gain in de-escalation, healthcare, and advocacy is a golden ticket to better-paying roles in social work or nursing later on.

My day varies greatly based on the vocational support needs of any one given person I support. My day could start with assisting someone with transportation to work to creating a resume for someone looking to get back into the work force. I have to flexible and ready to go where the day may take me.

I have learned that finding and using the best practices in the industry is smart, efficient and overall a good business practice.

As for as being a person in a management position, it really is what you make of it. I think I strive to create a work environment to promote learning, professional growth, and independence.

I enjoy working along side my co-workers. There is a mutual respect for each other that is genuine.

The hardest part is that you can't make everything all right for every client you work with. In Human Services the desire is strong to make everything perfect and that can be frustrating.

The most enjoyable part of the job is working directly with the people we support.

Delta Community is a very comfortable, safe place to work. The staff is friendly, helpful. resourceful and supportive. The supervisors are also resourceful. patient, kind and caring. A typical work day looks like coming into the office completing your notes making phones calls to the CUA Workers, Foster Parents and other outside agencies. There are other times when you come into the office and discuss with your coworkers challenging cases that may have occurred the day before or prior to coming into the office. Our superiors make themselves available at all times which is needed because we rum into challenging conversation and people that require our superiors to address. The culture of the job is peaceful and diverse. The hardest part of the job is when our Foster Parents have to see the children get reunified with their biological parents after they have had the child/children for a long time. The most enjoyable part of the job is that fact that they hired me and believed that I would be an asset to their organization.,

Working with acute behaviors at a Delta day program is definitely a "hold my coffee" kind of job—it’s intense, unpredictable, and keeps you on your toes 24/7. But honestly, the best part is that Delta actually rewards the hustle. Unlike other agencies where you’re just a permanent face in the crowd, Delta actually promotes from within. I’ve seen plenty of coworkers move from the floor to management because the company values people who already know the ropes. It’s a tough gig, but if you’re looking to actually move up the ladder instead of just treading water, it’s a solid place to be.

Unfortunately I lasted a week and 3 days! Some I encountered were very kind and cared about the work they do, however from the very beginning no one seemed very happy with regards to administrative staff. As someone who has been in the field for many years supporting people with IDD I found it very strange. I should have known from the very beginning during the interview process. Also many that I met in the short period of time have been in place for less than a year and you have to ask why? This is an organization that has been around since 1977. Something isn’t right. Do your homework before applying and ask questions. I’m sure you’ll come across some who have worked here and resigned or been let go. Pay attention to the subtle cues. 

Since the retirement of the owner/CEO, those who have taken over have no idea how to relate to staff or what the rules are to run the programs.  They talk down to staff.  Staff are either leaving or getting fired so there aren't enough people to work. Several staff who have been hired in middle management positions in the last 9 months have lasted less than 3 months. One left after a week and a half.  The feeling that you are valued and that you are making a difference isn't there anymore.  If you want to be respected and appreciated, look somewhere else.  Horrible, hateful leadership...the only staff in the entire organization that enjoys a great "work-life balance".  If it was possible to give less than 1 star, that's what this company would get.
