Delta Dental is a company where very little meaningful work gets accomplished. Although there are many opportunities to improve processes, the organization lacks the structure and discipline needed to implement real change. 

The quality assurance manager often accepts projects without understanding the scope or details, which leads the team into months of unnecessary work. We frequently discover later that the project volume is minimal and provides little real value. On top of that, when these issues surface, they tend to shift blame onto the team even when the root cause is their own lack of due diligence. This creates avoidable stress, wasted effort, and a culture of mistrust.

The work environment is further strained by long tenured directors who resist modern project management practices and by senior analysts who shift blame instead of collaborating. Ultimately, progress will remain limited until outdated leadership steps aside for those open to newer, more effective ideas.


The pay is good for a call center job ... but that is where the positives end. All call center positions start at 11:30-8. If you want to advance you have to go backwards. It is union, so don't expect to get an earlier shift very fast. Union is nice however nothing happens fast ... any issue I've ever brought to their attention has either never been resolved or has taken FOREVER! The companies true colors shown bright during the Covid 19 pandemic.  Outdated systems made working from home challenging. They donated millions instead of spending funds to upgrade our systems. All other insurance call centers in the PA area are working from home on the regular. They are completely defying governor orders (which mandate work from home) stating we are healthcare providers and that service levels are more important! We are not healthcare providers - we are a call center! The CEO is a JOKE - he cusses like a sailor and has completely destroyed any positive image most people have of the company.  If you want to be just a number whose statistics are more important ... this is the job for you. Basically.... DONT DO IT! Take a job that pays a little less ... you'll be happier in the long run.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The pay is good, But all they care about is that you meet the metrics.It doesn't matter that the customers like you have to meet the adherents and metrics. Or you will be let go. And constantly stressed out.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The supervisors that don't want to really tell you how to do anything. But they want you on the phone saying happy my pleasure. Please thank you and that's all that matters and and they constantly stretched you out about your quality.  And how long it takes you to fill up that service form after you hang up the call?

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They do not do anything in person everything is through zoom and rarely. Do you get to associate with anyone in person

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day is like being stressed out all the time. You can tell when they're listening in on your phone calls and if you're on their list of not making them a superstar then your calls are constantly. Listened to and judged., And that makes for a very stressful work environment.

Six years with Delta Dental and the experience continues to be as gratifying as day one. I'm fortunate to work with a supportive team and under a leader who inspires and fosters growth in an impressive way. The level of camaraderie, mutual respect, and collaboration within our team is truly unique and forms the backbone of our success.

The stability of the company is noteworthy, standing strong and secure even in today's unpredictable climate. This provides a comforting reassurance, making Delta Dental a reliable place to build a career.

You will receive one month of training which is okay if there weren't more complex details every person who calls expects you to know if you were not trained in it and you cannot give info if you are not trained to do so. Very tiresome getting yelled at and people giving information on things they do not know. Website to look up dentists that take the insurance needs a serious update as well as the excel spreadsheet made for "additional" offices need a massive update. Front office staff give attitude when you call asking if they do a certain service. Claiming they already told us to remove them from the list as they no longer accept Medi-Cal Dental. Supervisors need more extensive training. You will spend hours on the phone with someone who wants you to call every dental office around them to make an appointment. Ridiculous, really.

After being the product of a l covid-related company downsizing, I was focused on finding a company that could offer not only industry stability but also one that values its employees.  From the moment I joined Delta Dental Ins. I was impressed with all that they did to support their employees through covid, whether that meant allowing emergency PTO, providing stipends to each employee to set up a home office and quickly pivoting to remote work, and, instead of layoffs, allowing stretch assignments into other areas if the employee's area of work was reduced.

I continue to feel not only supported- but truly valued- to this day (3.5 years later) in every aspect of my work and personal life.  Considering I've never experienced a better culture anywhere else in my 20+ career, I can't imagine ever wanting to work anywhere else but here at Delta Dental Ins!

Delta Dental is transitioning to the 21st century with very little acceptance of their true identity. They want to be something that they just aren't. They have new executives in place across the company, but these new employees don't even understand the industry. It is ineffective to approach health insurance as if it is a tech company. There are always ways to improve and use your experience from other companies, but it has to be appropriately applied. Delta Dental is irresponsible in how they approach their industry as well as the employees. Long term employees aren't valued which is shameful. Bonuses are generous and help to make up for not having stock options, but will never generate the same level of income for employees. It is also only paid once a year. So, comparatively speaking, I would prefer the quarterly bonus and not have a larger payout that comes once a year. Overall, I would not willingly work for Delta Dental again.

I was a temp to hire, the contract I signed that they created said "3 months", 3 months and then I am taken on as perm. I had to bring it up multiple times that my 3 months was done and finally after 4 months (plus some) they wrote out a new contract for me to become perm. Then they moved the "date to start" 3 times! "oh its going to be next week..." next week comes and then "oh actually its in another two weeks...." over and over again.... not fulfilling the contract they created and we both signed. and it wasn't just me, they were doing this to 16 other people. No benefits, below min. wage, and this was right at the beginning of the pandemic. So couldnt quit because there was no jobs at that time and they wouldn't fire me (even though I begged them) because I had the highest customer satisfaction surveys and managerial reviews out of my group of 30 plus fellow employees.  I was stuck and I advocated for myself daily, to no avail.

It was h*** on earth.

The interview process was super easy. I’m an RDA, I have been for 5 years. They test you to make sure you can read Xrays of teeth & that’s really it. The rest they train you on absolutely everything else. I didn’t know anything about dental insurance and now you can ask me anything about delta dental and I know the answer. The benefits are freaking amazing. The best I’ve ever had anywhere. It’s also a union job so you because part of the union which is also nice because they always have you back in any needs. This is definitely a job where you multitask all day but it makes the day go by so fast. It’s a nice relaxed job. Good choice if you’re an RDA/DA and you’re tired of working in people mouths and tired of being in the dental office. 

The benefits are AMAZING but they come with a price. Union rule is you don't get any vacation time until after 6 months and all time off must be submitted 90 days in advance. So that means that even you request a day off prior to your 6 months it will still count as a point regardless if requested 90 days in advance. You only get 3 points for the first 6 months. Every minute of your day is tracked even if you need to go to the restroom it is tracked. due to covid I'm working from home but they don't understand that childcare centers are full and having a toddler home means that there will be the occasional background noise especially if they are sick or having a bad day. They don't care about any of this or worklife balance. Yes, you get great benefits but good luck using them when you can't get any time off.
