In one month of working at Flat Iron Terrace, I would say that this is a horrible place to work unless you want to be taken advantage of by upper management. There were some super kind residents and the free food was nice, but other than that it was a complete nightmare. The place is always understaffed! The servers have a many tasks to do, which are manageable, but it gets much harder/demanding to complete considering the place is never staffed properly. My best guess is that no one is interested in working a minimum wage job that is so demanding. Servers are required to do everything from food/drink prep, bussing, food/drink running, serving/entering orders, resetting tables and basically all of the kitchens dishes as well as the dirty dishes and cups from service. Night shift always requires a serious amount of kitchen cleaning beyond dishes and making the dining hall look neat. I was promoted after 3 weeks of working here and given a .95 cent raise and everything I did was under appreciated. Originally I had started my scheduling off with two doubles MW and a regular lunch shift on Friday. My very first day I was being trained by a girl, who had told me it was her last day. After being promoted my schedule was suppose to be Sunday-Thursday 7:30-2:30. However, they were so understaffed, I agreed to help out on Friday and work a night shift on Wednesday as well. This put me at overtime, which I was fine with and agreed too. However, after putting in all this extra work they wanted me to work another double on Monday, which I thought was ridiculous. My last week there, I had no help during three of my last shifts. At a minimum there should be two servers on staff. Three would make the job reasonable and stress-less. However, for these shifts I was all alone. They tried getting help from staff in other departments, who did not make the job much easier. The last Sunday I worked, I had to stay an extra three hours to get all my tasks done. Throughout my tenure of working here I almost never got off at my scheduled time. The executive chef is a really great young man, who I enjoyed working for. However, considering the executive director can't hire anyone or raise pay, the employees who do work here are being asked to do a lot more then they should.

The only highlights of working at the fountains are my fellow servers and the lovely residents, genuinely. Some of the servers were hard to work with at times but for the most part, they managed to hire genuine, kind, hardworking people, who end up overworked and underpaid considering the sheer amount of extra work we put in on a regular basis. 
Reasons not to work in dietary at The Fountains Retirement Community include:
-You will not get a promotion or a raise, ever. If you do get a raise, they will cut your hours in half.
-Management does not care about any of the individuals of or the dietary department as a whole. 
-Higher ups take no initiative, everything is always someone else's fault, aka if you are at the bottom (like a dietary server) everything is your fault. 
-Higher ups will preach to you about sanitation, and then proceed to feed residents food out of the trash can, never wash their hands, and use utensils off the kitchen floor to serve and prepare food.
-Higher ups will not come to you personally with questions about your conduct but instead talk about you behind your back.
-The hours posted will not be the hours worked, you may be scheduled from 4-7 but you will end up staying 30 minutes to an hour late every day to finish the job, and then be treated as though you were "milking the clock" though you were merely finishing the job the proper way.
-You will end up doing work far outside the job description, and get no thanks for it. 

The only upside is the residents, they are amazing people with great stories to tell. At times they really do feel like family. 

However, management does not take initiative and the place is very sloppily run, and there is no sense of comradery. It becomes very us vs. them when management constantly lies through their teeth and no one takes charge.

Honestly it’s not bad. The staff is nice for the most part but you are expected to anything and everything. Other employees (especially in the dining room will slack off and then I was expected to keep everything under control and keep things running). First started as a server then changed but they constantly asked me to work in the kitchen and then didn’t pay me extra for working up there (I worked 3 times a week and they never compensated me for working 2 jobs at once -every time I worked they asked me to come up and help). The management is somewhat nice but certain ones were difficult and made things harder. Did so many extra tasks and all I got was a good job and thank you for working so hard (no raises or anything when every time I worked I had to fix something or help even more). I worked for a while and the only increase in pay was when CO raised their minimum wage, every time I asked for one they said basically they would think about it. Was very angry when they paid new hires .50 more than me. The residents were mostly nice and you sort out which ones are nice and not but for the most part you get criticized for doing something constantly. 

Honestly I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you want to be overworked and underpaid.
Also in the kitchen they made a rule that staff was only allowed 1 meal a day (fine right but not when you work 2 shifts - mornings and nights with a 2 hour difference in time)

The director does not know how to run the place. Turn over rate is ridiculous. Employees are not appreciated by management but expected to give 110%. I enjoyed getting to know the residents, they made it worth it to come in everyday. The lack of communication is the worst I have ever encountered at any job I have ever worked at. At times the staff was expected to do more than anyone could handle in a day.  Any concerns brought to the director were dismissed and never addressed. The director basis her decisions on impulse rather than looking into things and addressing staff personally regarding any mistakes or issues in order for them to be able to correct those things and lets them go without giving a specific reason for dismissal.  For all the years I have been working, 30+, from fast food to construction to healthcare, I have NEVER been so disappointed in the way things were ran, overall communication, and the lack of overall morale from upper mangement, most of all by the director.

The most stressful part about working at Valley assisted living is all of it walking in the doors walking out the doors going to work all of it it's sucked don't work there they screw you  over but as far as I know it's just the valley location most other places are really decent to work for 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is very stressful not enough people to work they expect you to work extreme amount of hours never have 2 days off in a row it's all about management and how they can work you to the bone and pay the least amount possible

A typical day was come in work get told that you're doing it wrong work some more and then come back and work some more and then go home for a few hours and come back and work more and get told not getting enough done At The Valley location

At first I enjoyed the aspect of cooking for the elderly, and being an important part of the senior care experience. However, shortly after my start with Dial, that was replaced quickly with complete disorganization, very high turnover rate (even for food industry), unsupportive corporate staff, sometimes even hostile. It often felt as if every new employee was expected to be the savior of their position in the kitchen, so pressure was always high. For what was promised as a relaxing and consistent position, this was anything but, and the lack of support definitely showed. The attitudes that both direct management and corporate would show, made clear that this place wasn't somewhere our talents, skillsets, and care for not only what we do, but who we served, would be valued or utilized. Nor would our concerns be heard or used to make things better for the workers or the residents. 

This is a new building/facility trying to form its team and structure on their nursing department. The building itself is beautiful and big. The facility is growing and is lacking in some things like any other company. One of the few things they lack is short staffed in the Assistant Living there is one caregiver placed in each floor.  Is impossible to do all tasks like give proper care, doing laundry, showers, garbage, and keeping their rooms organized. The communication is poor and everyday the residents care and status are changing and nobody communicates those changes to caregivers. Some caregivers are comfortable working only in one floor and unwilling to work other floors. Caregivers should communicate respectfully and not boss other caregivers. The beepers don’t work and you have to constantly change them through out your shift. Your schedule is constantly changed without notice and makes you feel unsteady about not having set hours or days. 

You can definitely learn a lot from working at fountain view. you must be a team player and be able to communicate with residents within the facaility.  You must have lots of patients when dealing with the elderly, they are as sharp as they use to be. Many have problems hearing, moving around , and have no patients etc. the typical work day involves you being on your feet and moving constantly, Accommodating  the residents with all their needs during super. its best if possible to gain some type of relationship with residents, this will help you better get to know. Most of the residents keep the same routine every day, and don't think to change what they eat and how they eat. Most enjoyable part of my the job is interacting with residents, their so much you can learn from them, and always have interesting stories of when they were young men and woman. this job will definitely help you improve your people skills.

I started at this facility as the Assistant Director of Nursing and was quickly promoted to Director of Nursing after the previous DON left the position. Shortly thereafter, the Executive Director also left. The facility experienced significant leadership turnover during my tenure. The Interim Executive Director was supportive, encouraging, and one of the highlights of my experience.
As DON, I found the workload to be extremely demanding due to ongoing staffing and management challenges. There were many operational and clinical priorities competing for attention, which often made the role overwhelming.
In my experience, resident and family concerns carried significant influence in decision-making. Future nursing leaders should be prepared for a fast-paced environment, high expectations, and frequent change.

The overall satisfaction I feel this company deserves is a 1 star rating. The Residents are awesome. Management is constantly changing. Employees are quitting because of pay. Staff is overworked and expected to find their own coverage even in events of emergencies. Schedule is constantly changing as well. It does not work for employees as they too have lives to live outside of work. The required work duties for PCA's are ridiculous as they are doing more than what a regular caregiver should do. They do not get to actually sit down and have an uniteruppted break as sometimes there are emergencies that arise. They still take out the measely 30 min break that they get. PTO's are sometimes hard to get approved because of them being under staffed. They are housekeepers, maintenance workers, plumbers, kitchen workers as well. Dial needs to appreciate their workers. Point. Period. Blank!!!
