I worked for Diamonds Direct for 4 years. The only reason I left was to open a company with my fiancé. 

I started at Diamonds Direct as a receptionist. Awesome friendly staff that welcomed me on the first day! I was taught so many skills from the front desk to the back. I was a receptionist for the first 2 years learning more and more about the company until I was approached by management to expand my talents that they saw in me. As a receptionist I was able to work with all departments of the store. I was able to interact with customers, help the diamond experts, get involved with the jewelers and learn to properly clean the rings and help with back office tasks such as sorting and organizing. Once I showed that I had everything handled as a receptionist, I was promoted. The best part was they offered me the promotion, I did not have to ask them for one. They saw my work ethic and determination to keep learning different tasks in the company and offered me the customer care position. 

Like the receptionist positions, I also loved the customer care position. Interacting with the customers to turn a issue with their ring into a positive experience was my favorite part. I got to work one on one with the jewelers learning all the in and outs of the rings such as style, prong settings and diamond certifications. Very exciting things to learn about. After about 6 months at customer care I was approached again by management to expand my abilities and become a diamond expert. 

Best thing I could have done in the company. I had the best time sharing the excitement of the customers about a life changing event for them! The best part was it came so naturally because I worked my way through the company, I knew all there was to know about diamonds and the ordering process, I just had to let my personality shine and sell. Which is what my employers loved most about me. I was able to be myself. I was young, energetic and hard working and they saw such an opportunity which would change my life and they gave me that chance and I am happy to say I excelled. 

After covid hit, my fiancé and I saw the opportunity to start our own business which was the perfect time to do so. If it wasn't for that I would still be there today. 

The managers at Diamonds Direct care about you. They see growth in you not only to help the company to succeed but to see you as a person succeed. They are your second family. It evens counts for other stores. I made so many friends from different locations because everyone is there to help and to teach. 

Management is responsive, empathetic, understanding and always has your best interest. 

The staff always helps out. It is NOT like a cars salesman type of company. Everyone there helps everyone. Numbers matter, absolutely, but the management helps you to reach the numbers, they never pressure you to hit any goal. They make it fun with friendly games and competitions to bond and push each other to succeed. 

Being at Diamonds Direct for those 4 years and in all those different departments really taught me what a healthy work environment really is and I am forever grateful for being a part of their team. 

This VB location could be a gold mine!  What opportunity!  Unfortunately sales associates are sent elsewhere to train it’s unfortunate that it’s with a lackluster drone.  The purpose is to exhibit “knowledge”, which is only textbook, nothing outside of retail. There is no interest in individual training, only to teach irrelevant stories and fluff about the industry.  Of which, I learned absolutely nothing new in the industry about jewelry or particularly about diamonds!  You are transported back in time to “the way things used to be done” in 1980.  But the company expects you to pretend and play along and they want you to dumb yourself down to be on their level.  Egos within DD are huge and are not warranted.  Huge amount of misogynistic behavior and no interest in improving the company as a whole. Greedy culture with no room for growth. Any and all
Opinions should be kept under wraps as there is no interest in your career growth.   The VB location lacks independent thinkers.  Sales staff is 100% commission. Whole company needs to be restructured because talented people are leaving to work for jewelry companies with true potential that respect employees.  
Advice to Management
Hire trainers that are professional and not an out to feel important, but to take an interest in someone other than themselves.   The company should Actually train managers to do their job and be involved versus sitting in their offices all day running their side businesses. Which is truly unacceptable and unfortunate. Structure pay for sales associates that is fair, and take interest in people. Not just how much money they can bring in for you. Each sales person profits this company at least 500k each year! Share a little more of this with us for our hard work. Greed is not something to be proud of!

Diamonds Direct hires experienced diamond and jewelry sales staff and they expect you to continue to learn and improve in your abilities as a diamond expert. Customer service is the number one priority and the teamwork of the sales and management staff supports that objective. You will be working alongside some of the most experienced and knowledgeable diamond, gemstone, and jewelry designing experts in the industry, so expect to be challenged. This is a fast paced environment where extroverts and self starters excel and slackers don't last long. We work as a team and are only as strong as our weakest member, so expectations run high and we are given whatever we need to successfully provide the best diamond buying experience for our customers. If you are waiting for the clock to tick towards quitting time and always have a complaint on your lips, then just don't apply. But if you love a positive, challenging, engaging, team-driven work environment and you're willing to work independently without being told what to do, then you will get as much as you give and love every minute of working here.

There are so many better alternatives.  Middle-of-the-road retail store with long hours and a lot of gossip on the sales floor.   If you are in sales, it is truly a different scope of work than the support staff, and sales staff is paid by 100% commission.  It is a toxic environment and not a pleasant place to spend 10-12 hours a day on the sales floor waiting for clients to hopefully come in.  Saturdays are busy, but the remainder of the week is hit or miss.  The most challenging part of the job is patiently waiting for clients to come in and navigating the complex "UP" System to know when you can actually speak with a client and assist them in potentially purchasing merchandise.  The management is laissez faire and does not go out of their way to assist in operational duties or in closing sales.  It is wonderful to see a happy couple walk out of the store after choosing a little diamond and on their road to getting engaged!  Aside from this joy, the workplace culture is draining, toxic and not worth standing around for a very long day and sometimes not even getting a chance to sell anything! 

Each day is never the same. I wear a lot of hats at that job, so I am constantly doing new things. I sell everyday, I help with customers every day, sometimes i will plan trips for managers, fix consultations with customers, run errands every day for managers/executives. 

I have learned more and more about sales, new techniques, presentation, communications, multi-tasking, etc. 

Work place culture, is decent. It has its moments when its a happy place to be. 

Hardest part of the job is the hours. Giving up practically every Saturday of the year is very hard. Also the pressure, sometimes the managers are so pressuring rather than being uplifting. 

Most enjoyable part of the job is getting to interact with new customers everyday. There are always new people coming to the store. A great feeling though is when you have a returning customer that wants to see you, and you only.

They have an amazing culture. High energy and fun is promoted within the organization.Closed on (most) Sundays, which is nice. That being said, expect to work every Saturday. A regular work week is right around 53 hours and only one shift...open to close, every day that you work. These hours don't include Designer show weekends and december. Expect to put in at least 12 hours a day on those times.If you have a family, forget about seing them the 5 days you work. This is not included the time spent away from the store talking and texting customers on your cell phone. Taking your full lunch break is discouraged. 
make sure they go through what the pay structure is with you before signing on!! It is a draw, which if you have a bad month...your now paying them back, even though you are working so much.
At least they don't micromanage you, which is a huge plus.

Terrible work/life balance. The customer is the most important aspect of everything there. They mention family and doing what is based on the team, but really they will do whatever necessary to make a profit. Even if it negatively affects you as an employee. And  life altering decisions are made without your knowledge or consent and once you are finally told, you are expected to accept everything unless you want to be recognized as “not a team player,” on your next review. Unfortunately, any and all flexibility you give them is never remembered. But any occasion you say you are unwillingly to cancel your vacation time or change your day off within a weeks notice, management will say or do things that let you know that they are disappointed that they were unable to manipulate you to get want they want.

Great “sales pitch” to get you in the door if you have jewelry experience.  This location is run like the Wild West!  Managers work less than sales staff -which sales staff  is on 100% commission.  No support or training. Passive aggressive lazy managers!  If you drink the kool aid, you will receive leads. Stressful and extremely toxic environment.  Much better alternatives.  Don’t waste your time!
