This was my first time freelancing. After this experience, I may never want to freelance again. I only hope the next time I freelance, it isn't as bad as this. 

These people do not help you. They give you a guide, take forever to answer questions, then pile on work. You need to drop what you are doing to complete anything. They say articles are do in a week, but in reality, they are due the moment they are given to you. 

They are unprofessional. They use a CMS called Asana, which can be tricky to work with. They piled on multiple assignments. Each assignment can take 6 hours to successfully completed, edit, and format. If you get 'd by the senior editorr it's a fault and demerit against you, no matter how nice they sound. They don't want to help. They just say "Refer to the stylebook" when the stylebook is not for freelancers, but instead, for the entire editing staff, which has things that you don't need to know as a freelancer, and can make the training process's difficult. 

Additionally, they just drop you without notice. I was DMd on a Sunday evening to make edits and that they would have me do one article at a time. I was not given a ballpark on those edits. The next morning, after completing thee sits on one article, I was terminated without any prior notice. 

Its unfortunate. I was so excited to freelance for the very first time, especially with this site. But with the way I was treated, I cannot recommend FT or freelancing here for any reason. The staff needs to change. The training needs to change. There needs to be a support network to help those breaking in for the first time.

There are some wonderful people who work there. Unfortunately the executive team is not any of them.  There is no clear direction for the company and there seems to be a lot of catering to whims of some of the upper management. There is extensive work on improving the "culture" such as constantly updating the core values but when it comes down to the business side of things there is a lot of throwing things at the wall to see what sticks instead of any actual strategy. It's possible this information is kept extremely close to the chest but often my department goals would shift dramatically based on a passing conversation someone had with the CEO.  It seems like DT never took the next step from startup to established business and management seems uninterested in making that jump. Management constantly asked for solutions but when valid solutions were provided they often didn't like them and instead asked for different solutions. It's not necessarily a bad place to work, you just need to be ready for a disengaged management structure.

This seemed like a decent place a few years ago - a pretty genuine commitment to covering digital technology in a wide swath of niches plus some nice rush periods covering things like CES. I had two excellent editors, both women, who were supportive and complimentary of my work. After they moved on, the whole site seems to have dissolved into a sweatshop clickbait factory that doesn't give one **** about the quality of writing and are utterly combative with writers. Freelancers: I know things are tough right now but keep away from these guys unless they get their **** together.

Digital Trends is great, but as a freelancer and not necessarily a writer by trade, it wasn't for me.

The style of writing simply did not suite me, being a primarily socially driven article style that was meant to keep readers tuned in.

Office equipment, Desks/chairs/etc, are poor quality; office internet crashing is a normal occurrence. Most decisions at the company seem to emotionally driven by the CEO/co-founder. Co-workers are good people, with a few creeps mixed in.

Enjoyed the company and would have stayed had I not moved to a new state. 

They even let me work remotely, but I missed being around people. Still, the fact that they even gave me the option was wonderful. 

Great team, great management, great culture.

The management here does not discuss things with each other, so you end up doing double the work or getting in trouble for not listening to one and not the other. It is extremely disorganized and they try to mask it with a ping pong table and various events.

Very nice place to work. I would highly recommend it. They are responsive and care about their workers. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and I think you will too.

Poor pay and treatment of employees. The company is poorly managed. The benefits are okay but the job itself and the company are one of the worst ones around.

I enjoyed working here, and was given ample opportunity to hone my writing craft. I had a great editor who trusted me with some fairly complicated stories. Highly recommended place to work.
