My day started at 7am until 7pm sometimes a little longer depending on how busy it  is. I begin to check the surgery schedule to see how many patients was schedule for surgery and made sure their charts was in order. Checked patients diets, answer phone, patients call lights and the door entry intercom. Help nurses with filling patient water pitchers, giving towels and wash cloths, and making beds. Check the admission that was scheduled for that day and the discharges and got their charts ready. When doctors office opens I would make appointments. Order supplies as needed.  I learned how to be more patient when I  listen to all patients and visitors needs and concerns. I worked basically on my own with little management. My co-workers were wonderful. We all got along very well and work together as a team. The hardest part of my job was when I knew a patient was dying and I became close with them and their family. It was hard for me because I thought of my family in that condition and I have had close relatives that God has call home. The enjoyable part of  my job is when my co-workers and I can sit down laugh and talk about at the end of the day how we all worked hard that day to get the job done and the patients and family members was pleased with the care we gave to them and they would recommend their family member to come to our hospital. Compliments like this makes us feel really good and we don't mind going the extra mile in order to make our patient feel better and the family don't have to worry when the have to leave them.

A typical work day would consist of caring for, anywhere from 10 to 20 patients, from giving a glass of water to changing a bed, changing and cleaning soiled briefs. Collection of blood specimen, EKGS, telemetry, transferring patients from chair to bed, positioning and re-positioning. Checking glucose and taking and recording vitals. Run errands, answering phones and call lights. During my time and experience with Doctors Hospital of Augusta I have learned to take nothing for granted and that all lives matter. The management team is great to work with as well as my coworkers we all have the same goal and that is to give our patients the highest quality of care.   The hardest part of the job is working the long hours with no breaks or short staff. My most enjoyable time while working is the ability to assist and talk with patients especially those that have little to no family, giving them comfort and conversation, a warm smile and a few jokes goes a long way.

Doctor's hospital is not a bad place to work at all. There are great benefits and you get 3 days off during the week for ER registrars. The best and worst part of the job is the team-work required to get the job done. Whoever you are working with can make the environment a most enjoyable or most hellish place to work. From my experience, I was teamed with an older worker who believes her seniority gives her the right to sit down and make me do all the work. It makes my day much busier, more tiring, and makes my overall attitude towards the company less favorable. 

There is also a huge issue of nepotism and favoritism. Higher ups will get their children hired onto the company at a low level position with no experience or education, and these new, some teenagers, will have repeated meetings with directors of registration and get praise and opportunities that aren't given to those of us with experience and education but without parents who run the hospital. It makes me eager to leave this job.

The typical clinical day I would assist in providing service and delivery of patient care under the supervision of a nurse, responsible for taking and accurately recording patient blood pressure and vital signs, executed administrative duties including answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient’s medical records, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and delivered specimens to lab, and diligently prepared equipment before, during, and after patient care. The co-workers for the short amount of time were very helpful when they could be to help me learn. The hardest part of the job was taking care of a patient and learning that overnight they passed away. I worked on the PCU floor and all the patients were older and you never knew what to expect coming in the next morning. The most enjoyable part was getting to know the patients and their families.

Doctors hospital has taught me a lot. As a nursing student it’s super helpful for my clinicals and helps me feel like I’m ahead of the curve. However, management can be a nightmare when it comes to scheduling.

If you are in nursing school or planning to be, highly recommend to every aspiring nurse to apply for the externship or to get your PCT! Great learning opportunities (but you have to really want to learn)

I love almost all the staff and people I work with, they are great. Most of the floors have a great work environment, others don’t (but that’s expected) 

Cons I have found are mainly with management and not having a good support system when personal matters arise and HR is a mess. 

Pay is okay, just not enough to work just 3 days, overtime is something I have to do a lot when I find the time to. 

Overall I give a 6/10 for this job, it’s a great start to get your foot in the door and gain experience.

A typical day involves doing your job while navigating inconsistent communication, limited support, and a workplace that can feel more about favoritism than teamwork.

Come in and be ready to hit the ground running. It was typically busy from the time I came until the time I left, but that makes the time go by faster, and I enjoy being busy. I learned to depend on myself and and juggle many responsibilities at one time. I also had the ability to work as team with really great people. My co-workers were talented, knowledgeable, and caring. The hardest part of my job was also the most rewarding, comforting sick and injured people. I was able to be the ear they needed to tell their life story and I really cherished that. It can be challenging to empathize with someone if you don't know where they are coming from, and the biggest part of working in healthcare is empathy. I loved being able to brighten someone's day even if it was for just a moment.

I graduated nursing school in December 2020, licensed in February 2021. I’m employed via StaRN, which I would not recommend. Simply a retention tool to scare nurses into staying in a terrible unit. For all new grads, get your experience and run! They don’t offer any COVID pay but expect you to care for COVID patients. You only get incentives if they call you in for an extra shift. Employee turnover is high with no new employees in sight (at least for night shift). You’re most likely gonna get pulled to another floor in your first month, even though they tell you 6 months. They feed you a dream and you see the harsh reality when you step on the floor. Also they don’t pay for your degree. But if you choose to work here, do not accept any bonuses or sign a contract.

A typical day at work is knowing that u are to serve a purpose and is to help people. I learned a lot not only free job traning in a lot of areas but that u should always have a smile on ur face cause it could be a stranger u help, family member, best friend etc. and u learn to know that u never know who and when u, or myself might need help to. The management team is a very understanding and opened hearted when it comes to me, the patients, the staff around them. The worst and hardest part of the job is seeing a child come in and looking in their eyes and see nothing but fear and hurt and then finding out the parent or someone u trusted with ur chikd has hurt them. But overall the most enjoyable part is meeting new people and seeing people smile again.

Working in an ER can be very rewarding but also very stressful, I would have to say the worst part of the job is when patients come in and there is nothing you and your co-workers can do to save them and then have to tell the family.
There are highlights to the job when you see the gratitude on the face of a patient or family member because you helped them even in a small way, even if it is just holding their hand of giving them a hug.
I have learned how to deal with the disappointments of not being able to help everyone, to hold it together to be able to help the next person.
My co-workers are some of the best people around, I watch their caring and compassion for our fellow man, and it moves me to be a better caretaker.
