This is by far the worst health care facility I've ever worked for. They under pay and over work you. Majority of the staff seem to genuinely hate people which is disheartening because when working in health care you should be in it because you want to help people. I work in the emergency department admitting. On a daily basis most of the others whom I work with look like patients and not health care workers. When I was hired I was told the dress code was business casual, but I think others may have mistaken that for business bum. I also distinctly remember that while I was in my panel interview I was asked what I was looking for in a good supervisor. My response was someone I could trust and rely on for support in my times of need. We haven't had a supervisor since January. It's now August. And to me the department is a chaotic mess with many coworkers at odds with each other. Many of the senior reps have superiority complexes. I just passed my one year mark and am more than ready to leave. By far the shortest amount of time that I've spent with a company before wanting to move on to something else. 

I spent the first year offering a smile, saying good morning, and opening the door for staff as they walked by my station on their way to work in the morning.  I can honestly say that after a year I found that approximately 25% genuinely responded with a smile and greeting, approximately 50% returned the greeting with suspicious glances, no smile, and an obligatory response of some kind, and approximately 25% said nothing at all, EVER!! Can you imagine spending a year doing this for approximately 75% of the staff to really never warm up to you and your efforts?  And for 25% to just flat out ignore you day after day after day blows my mind.  We are talking about Nurses and Doctors...not housekeeping, volunteers, security, etc.  For people in careers so respected and with such high pay you have to wonder why the majority seemed so suspicious of common courtesy and so unenthusiastic about being at work!  Is it the staff or the employer creating such an unenthusiastic environment?

DMC is an amazing Hospital! I as a volunteer a couple years ago, had an amazing experience. Even though I did not get as much volunteering experience as I thought  I was, due to the limited things I could and could not do I still benefited a lot through such a short amount of time. All the nurses I had a chance to shadow were really nice, and helpful. Everything I got to do, the Nurses would explain the importance of the procedures and benefits of it. I learned that as a care giver, you can only do so much. Seeing the Doctors and Nurse, I saw that they gave their best care to each individual but sometimes, the patients feel it's not enough. From my personal experience I think the hardest part about being a caregiver is not always meeting the needs of each individual because of time, and helping others. Overall, the most enjoyable part of volunteering, is assisting the nurse's needs but the most rewarding part is providing the care of the patients.

I was in a ROP nursing program and got to work there through my school. I would show up daily, fill in my time card, and ask any CNA's or nurses if they needed any help. I learned how to give patients a bed bath and change their beds while they were still laying in it.The other workers there were very kind and helpful. They showed me how to do a CNA's job and I started to do it on my own with no ones help. I gained a lot of experience volunteering there. The hardest part of the job was having to see a lot of sick patients and learning to be very gentle and patient with them. The most enjoyable part of the job was that I was able to work on my own with no help and get the job done right and on time. Another good part about working there was being able to be a part of a team. I enjoyed working with the other workers they were very kind and very helpful. 

DMC is actually better staffed and equipped than other county facilities I've worked at; my unit in particular is especially tight knit and works very well together, very very little snipping or snarking -there's no time for that, our patient load is crushing. Everyone pulls together - everyone - nurses, docs, techs, housekeeping, registration, it's one fluid motion that makes it all work (we are a 24 bed unit, but see an average of 300 per day year round; last year we hit just over 400 for the two week period after christmas and the new year).
The work environment is becoming more dangerous though - and administration has not taken steps to make us more safe; there are multiple daily incidents of violence inside the ED - now we're seeing violence (assaults, cars broken into, car jackings, shootings, stabbings) outside in the lot and in the garage, that safety has become a HUGE concern for many.

Very exciting fast past working environment the mix Culter of different people has taught me that it's all about helping other people by paying attention to detail to help save lives. Management was great, they listen to the workers and give credit where credit by rewarding and recognizing the hard work!! the hardest part of the job was working in decontamination area after Surgeries it's not so bad when you have all the finished cases Organized by Priority. the most enjoyable part of the job was on the sterile prep side of the department assembling the different surgical instruments listening to music with coworkers

The people you get to work with.  The things you learn on the job.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The hours were long (12 hour shifts) and I always hoped they had a split shift, such as two 6-hour shifts, or even an 8-hour and a 4-hour shift.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
For the most part it was fairly good.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Report to your assigned floor, get an assessment of your patient from the previous worker, maintain record of activities regarding patient and assist RN with various tasks.

The nursing and medical team are phenomenal. Teamwork is the culture, staff morale is the focus among nursing and medical colleagues. Medical staff are respectful and supportive of nursing staff, and vice versa. Friendly work environment overall. 

However, management lacks experience and professionalism. No part-time or per diem positions are available in most departments, decreasing work morale and increasing burnout. New nurses were shorted on orientation days due to management inadvertently approved excessive time-offs, and often proceeded with write-ups without confirming facts of the situation.

The company was flexible with my time, no micromanaging we worked alone a Head Pharmacist was always there in case things got out of hand. The stock options were great always had a great time the Manager was awesome no complaints about her. The staff worked well and we all got along.Never a dull moment.I learned alot was always encouraged by my Manager to continue my education or continue classes.Was always encouraged to learn more in the RX even if it wasn't my assignment or my job title.Always room to grow at Doctors Hospital and it was encouraged to do so.

Doctors Medical Center is a fast paced, level 3 high risk hospital that is amazing in training staff how to handle high stressed situations in a team like manner.   It was great to be a part of that team for 7 years of my first half of Rn career.   It's also a new grad/new MD preceptorship program and great management team that keeps you well educated to help all staff perform to best of there ability at a very fast paced facility and in high stressed/diverse situations.
