Minus one young little professional lady excessively unprofessional management. There are three delusional bitter angry women managers who sabotage and unjustly jump down employees throats and talk down to them every chance they get even in front of customers. Very unorganized and harassing towards employees. Some employees will falsely accuse you of stealing and they'll just fire you without actual proof. It's unreal. I was there for a whopping two months and watched nine employees including myself quit plus one employee they fired twice. And this is a smaller place so that should tell you something. The three women managers harassing combined with paying minimum wage makes very high turn over and obviously an undesirable work environment. If they fire the three reprobates I'd recommend working here but not till then. Not accommodating to schedules or any preferences for days hours or asking for time off even many weeks in advance. Strongly don't recommend working at the Denton store.

Over 2 years with the company. Local store is a good place to work however corporate is not too concerned with individual employees. Managers very accommodating with scheduling and taking time off. Pay is on the low end and raises are smàll so there is a quick turnover rate. But the work is pretty easy in all departments and the staff is all easy going. By and large not a drama filled workplace. Customers are amazing for the most part. Many have been customers for decades while others say that they just discovered the store and will be back.
It's a mom and pop type store, think old general store. It's a discount drug store with an extensíve cosmetics department and health food side that's much like Natural Grociers but better prices. As a cashier we do not scan bar codes, items are individually priced. We enter the price and department into the register. You'll learn 10 key very well! 
Over all a good place to work with great employees and a varied customer base. However corporate could be more attentive to long time employees and work better at employee retention. Starting pay is slightly better than when I started but still has a long way to go to be really competitive. Most enjoyable part of the job is regular customers. Some come in every day and you really get to know them and their families.

The cosmetics manager was awesome and understanding. She worked amazingly with college and school schedules. Most sales associates in the department while I worked there were in either college or high school and she would make sure we got our hours and that we worked reasonable times for when we were going to school. The schedules were regular, though not fixed. The customer base could sometimes be fussy, like with any retail job, but the managements understanding and guidance in situations made it not too difficult to deal with. The general department culture was very warm and felt like a family, with generally low turnover for the department when I was there. The store culture had a bit more turmoil at times, but after a change in store management that got a lot better. I'd definitely recommend this job for anyone who needs regular work during school. Even if you just take a position up front as a regular cashier. They will be great to you if you're great for them.

Drug Emporium was run like a family owned company. Most stores were very productive and adequately staffed to handle the volume of business that came in daily. Everyone looked out for one another as if we were one large extended family. I learned that going to work can be productive as well as enjoyable. There were many times that I couldn't believe I was getting paid to do the job that I loved so much. My salary was the icing on the cake. The management was superb and many of the co-workers still remain loyal.

The hardest part of the job was having to close all the profitable brick and mortar pharmacies when over investment in the internet side of the business bankrupted the entire company after the dot com bubble burst

The best part of the job was the ability to practice pharmacy was not micromanaged by the corporate entity. I was actually able to practice pharmacy on fee for services basis when providing disease state management.

I don't recommend anyone this job unless it is their first job and they need experience before they can get a better one. I stayed here for two years and had man issues with the way things were done. Management hardly communicated with their employees and were fairly distant in their interactions with us. The tasks were menial, mainly consisting of straightening shelves and cleaning. Several employees had been working there for almost 8 years and were barely getting $8.00 an hour. Instead of giving more hours to the employees they had, they would instead hire more part-timers such that it would be impressive if you managed to consistently work more than 20 hours a weekThere is no moving up, only moving around. The management did not trust their employees with any pivotal tasks such as ordering merchandise, which would have made the job more interesting and would have been more efficient than placing that burden entirely on their own shoulders. Overall, I felt like we were looked down upon and held to standards that their awful compensation had no means of justifying.

Typical day at work was clocking in and preparing for assignments for work. I worked two different departments in store such as selling perfumes, checking in products, cashier, and customer service toward customers. I overseen the cashiers and shifts for fellow cashiers. I handled cashier drawers to prepare deposit for the next morning. I also helped kept the store tidy and clean for both departments. I learned to come out of my shell with other people and I realized that I love offering customer service. The management care depending on the manager for instance one manager was very direct and assertive while others were very demanding and not approachable. I enjoyed my co-workers because they were very friendly and team players. The hardest part of my job was working with management. The enjoyable part of my job was catering to the customers and selling perfumes.

I love working there. The management is very considerate, understanding ,and flexible. Coworkers are so friendly and fun. Great positive environment. Very low stress. I enjoy going to work and am in a good head space when I clock out for the day.

Training someone that doesn’t understand what shadowing means…

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Low stress, upbeat, helpful. The culture is friendly and supportive. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy!! Multitasking at its best. In my department I have tasks to complete, stocking the shelves, customer service, answering phone calls, working our register, and being back up register for up front.

I liked very much working for Drug Emporium because the employees and management got along very well together and it was low stress.
The only criticism i have is that it was a small company so there were no benefits, the pay was extremely low and there was no chance at advancement. It was a good first job for high school or college kids or for older workers needing to reenter the workforce. 
Most of the repeat customers for nice to wait on, if we had an occasional bad customer management was very good at taking care of the problem and not allowing them back in the store if they were shoplifters or had behavior issues.
I liked the fact that i could wear sweatshirts, t-shirts and jeans to work as long as they were clean and didn't have any profanity on them.

At Drug Emporium the typical day could be very hectic, but in a good way. It was fast paced. 

I learned how to multi task very well by working in a pharmacy. Also I learned how to work with and help the public. 

The director of pharmacy at Drug Emporium is very professional and a very good teacher. 

I enjoyed working with the coworkers at Drug Emporium and often even training them. 

The most difficult party of this job was the fact that it was a fast paced work environment and often required be pulled in many different directions. 

The enjoyable part of the job for me was being able to help the community. I would often help customers finding different over the counter items.

No stress and no hurry while stocking.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When you’re stocking. The phone rings and we have a high volume of calls, one has to stop and answer the phone. Also customers need help all the time and you have to stop to help them, which there’s a high volume of customers. So it slows down stocking. Sometimes the managers want us to hurry but not always.

Most people are friendly and the environment is good.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s always busy. This store is beginning to have too much clientele and not enough help.
