EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants

While it appears EPIC is an insurance company, it is actually a merger & acquisition company. Your projects will largely deal with trying to sell the company to potential companies they are trying to acquire, or working on "internal" initiatives for onboarding newly acquired companies or corporate communications. You will likely do very little traditional marketing, to actual customers.

I found many of my direct coworkers to be intelligent and hardworking, but often spread a little thin or being challenged to do things outside their area of expertise. I truly believe most tried to do their best work, despite maybe not having the right skill-set to do certain things, and/or without being given adequate time to execute properly. 

I believe upper management is very much trying to figure out what the company wants to be when it grows up. This is evident from frequent realignments, half-baked strategic initiatives, and zero upwards accountability. Read as, you can do exactly what you were told to do, you can even question the direction or recommend things that have worked better in your experience, but if it doesn't work you are still accountable.

In general, my tenure included some interesting projects and learning experiences, but I left not ever sure what I was actually supposed to be doing. Taking orders, I suppose? As a creative-minded person, I found myself looking back at my tenure feeling very stifled on that front. I also didn't feel any recommendations I made based on many years of previous experience were ever taken seriously, even as a middle manager.

Very fast pace environment. Always learning. Enjoyed working with all employees. It was a fun place to work. Day starts a 7:30am, picking up messages from the night before. Answering phone calls from employees and HR departments regarding benefits and claims issues they may have. Helped employees with their online enrollments. Answered questions regarding FSA and HSA accounts. Logged all calls into BenefitPoint daily. Updated files for all clients on computer for open enrollments. Assisted with questions regarding Life Insurance, STD and LTD. The hardest part of the job was being able to keep up with open enrollment updates and most enjoyable part was the great satisfaction I got when I helped and employee completely understand their benefits and help them through a tough issue they were having with their carrier.

The managers here are terrible and passive aggressive when you ask for help. The meetings are endless! And they are scheduled in the middle of the day even though you have a ton of work to do, then they get upset when you cant keep up. People quit all the time and they just give us more work instead of hiring more people. Since I have been here, I have had three peoples book of business added to my current workload. The amount of work here is for three people not just one. There is no support and for this low pay, the work is ridiculous. The managers are clicky and only favor certain employees.

We worked as a team. If someone needed help, you could always count on someone to help.

When we were short staffed, taking up the slack could be a challenge.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
very corporate and professional. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was working on the service department, so most calls had to due with remarketing and decreasing premiums.

What is the best part of working at the company?
People were nice enough. Plenty of lunches. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No IT staff in house.  If you had a technical problem it took too long to get resolved

Typical for profit company, meetings, lunches, events

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work, lunch, work, go home. Some meetings, sometimes lunch provided.

I was happy most of the time and got paid very well. I was just very overworked and disconnected from the company itself. They just need to slow down on the acquisitions enough for existing employees to catch up with what EPIC consists of and can offer for a minute or two. And always just depends on how good you get along with your immediate colleagues anyway which is pretty much the way it is everywhere. 

I enjoy working for the company and I love how they care about their employees! Truly feels like a family oriented environment. I recommend this place.

Epic is a very welcoming place to work.  In the short amount of time I've been with this company I have gained knowledge that would pertain to everyday life.  They celebrate holidays and give you PTO for them. Although the material is very sufficient it is a laid back work environment with a family like feel.

Large company going through the process of acquiring smaller insurance brokers.  Too many  changes happening all at once.  People in positions of authority seem to micromanage to a point that it is uncomfortable.   Cost of health insurance is much higher than what was offered by my previous employers.

As an Independent Sr. Consultant at EPIC Brokers it allows me the flexibility to work in the field, at home or in the office. As one of the top 10 national brokerage companies they focus on service which goes with my personal believe.
