Eagleville Hospital is a wonderful place to work. You will make friends quickly. The feeling of family and being part of a TEAM is felt even from your first day. If you take your job seriously you can expect plenty of praise and thanks from fellow co workers. The company is just big enough that you can feel busy but you don't feel like your part of the "Big Corporate Machine." They will almost always look to promote from within the company if the person fits the job description. They provide FREE training to all employees. They host many training courses that other professionals would otherwise have to pay for, but you don't have to pay for them. It is rare that you would have to pay for any of the trainings that are hosted by Eagleville. It is not rare to find employees that have worked there for a decade or three. 

Benefits are pretty standard, maybe a little bit better than standard, but close to standard. 

The hardest part is knowing that because you are working for a non profit organization, funds are not always plentiful. You may or may not see a cost of living raise every year, though most years you will. You shouldn't really ever expect to get a merit raise. Pay is also pretty standard.

The best part though, is that even though the money may not always be there, there are some things you just cannot put a price on. Feeling at home while you're at work, feeling like an asset in a world where most employers view their employees as "liabilities." Management that works hard to try and care for employees and the list goes on. 

Bottom line... If you are a professional looking for a place with endless possibilities, a competitive work environment, and great pay with awesome benefits... Eagleville might still work for you, but i really doubt it is what your looking for. If your a professional looking for a place to work and retire from, a place that feels as close to home as a workplace can feel, a place where you can have peace of mind knowing that they aren't looking to replace you as long as you are doing your job, a relaxed yet professional feel, Eagleville definitely fits the bill.

I worked as a therapist at Eagleville hospital and was tasked with providing stability and leadership to the shift I was assigned.  Without much orientation or training I was thrown into an environment filled with gossip, lack of procedure and policy, no managerial support, and on a unit which was without a case manager or any lead staff for quite some time.  In a short amount of time I was able to resolve many of these issues through conversation with other staff and relationships/rapport developed there in.  While doing this I received an abundance of praise and appreciation from my kind and amazing co-works but virtually no feedback from management unless they had some minor complaint involving management’s personal emotional needs in communication or ability to take credit for items I created or initiated.  I was warned but current staff that management had fired near 20 people in the last year for issues beyond their comprehension and experienced this myself as I was let go for “insubordination to leadership” with no warning, conversation, or reprimand.  “Leadership” as management preferred to be called operates there as if there employees are followers not assets in a manner consistent with a military regime or boarding school.  They make sweeping program decisions without the input of those who actually work with patients and care little for the actual work you do outside of ever raising a concern or disagreement of any kind with management.  These are grounds for immediate termination per/ “leadership.”  This place is a mess in terms of how things / people are managed, but the work I preformed with patients and my excellent coworkers was rewarding enough to be happy and stay motivated… until I was let go not because of my “clinical skills” but basically because management felt threatened and insecure by my efforts and rapport with other staff and patients.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of meeting extraordinary patients and a devoted team of healthcare professionals. Each interaction has fostered an atmosphere of healing, mutual respect, and growth. The hospital’s unwavering commitment to compassionate care and its supportive community have profoundly shaped my understanding of life and my career path.

The invaluable experiences I have gained at Eagleville have taught me lessons that extend far beyond clinical knowledge. These moments have illuminated my path and inspired me to pursue a career as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. The encouragement and mentorship from my colleagues have been instrumental in my development, igniting a deep passion for mental health care.

Though I can speak only for myself, I can confidently say that Eagleville Hospital has been a radiant beacon of inspiration. It is a place where dedication to patient care and professional growth harmoniously intertwine, and I am deeply grateful for the light it has brought to my journey.

I will start by saying that I learned a lot working here, and met some great people who cared a lot about the work that they do (of note, most of them no longer work here). That being said, working here was an incredibly stressful experience. I started off as a counselor on one of the acute psychiatric units while I was working on my master’s degree and transitioned into the role of therapist on the same unit when I had completed my degree. Low pay, VERY poor work-life balance. I had to come in early every day, and stayed late most days(sometimes several hours) just to keep up with the unreasonable work load, with no overtime pay because I had a salaried position. Absolutely no support from management, they weren’t even on the unit half the time. Leadership structure was constantly changing to the point that there was no clear chain of command. Management had very poor boundaries with employees. Patients were allowed to do whatever they wanted, and we were not able to set limits for fear of seeming as though we were not being “compassionate.” Constant fighting between the nursing and counseling leadership, which caused strain amongst the unit staff that have to work together every day in an already stressful environment. Overall, I am thankful for the things I have learned and the clinical experience I gained working here, but it is absolutely not worth it if you have other options.

 The management and administration make you feel worthless and inadequate. Completely disorganized. They cheat you out of bonuses. Seems like they are dedicated to treating all of their staff rudely. Patients can cuss you out and they do nothing to defend the nurses. Patients are having relations in the woods.. smoking on a non smoking campus, and doing whatever they please at a DRUG REHAB. They Care more about making a buck then their staff. They hate the union. The union is awesome! They will fight for you. But why should they have to fight so hard? New buildings are not safe and not designed in a way to be helpful to nursing staff.  One nurse to 35-40 patients. HEAVY med pass!!!! They put patients on wrong units all the time.  It’s a dangerous place to work. Your license is constantly not considered and they put you at risk of losing your precious license. They DO NOT CARE about their staff.  This place disgusting , you can do better.  I hope they take the time to value their staff and implement some service standards around internal customer service. The nursing staff deserves better. They need to replace the leadership…. It’s truly the worse I have ever seen. 

As a therapist, the majority of your day is spent doing assessments for billing purposes most of which are done without actually speaking to the patient. Managements only concern is billing, and patient care is at the very bottom of the list. You receive practically no training. The med system is from the 80`s so expect to doing hours of repetitive charting while monitoring patient phone calls. I learned early that the workplace culture is to do as minimal as possible when it comes to patient care. Eagleville needs a definitive change in culture which stems from the management.  If you are concerned about keeping your license I would stay away. HIPPA is only an afterthought as therapists provides sessions in the same office with multiple patients at the same time.  The hardest part of this job is actually caring about the patient care and get demoralized for it. In my two months' time, Eagleville went through 3 therapists in one department alone. 

A typical day at work was one of constant aggravation due to lack of staff, and bored patients. Lack of communication between nursing and therapists, and being screamed at for something nursing assistants had nothing to do with. I learned that management could care less about their employees, management was very disorganized, and abusive. My co-workers for the most part were fun, although some liked to stir up trouble. The hardest part of the job was the constant badgering and nagging by the patients, the constant mistakes that were made by some co-workers and management that Nursing assistants would have to fix, way to many responsibilities dumped on NA's for such measly pay. Most enjoyable was helping a patient and making a difference, and laughing with my co-workers.

If you have a high opinion of yourself, enjoy blaming and disregarding experienced colleagues, look no further. If you enjoy minimizing concerns, would rather preach policies instead of developing and using critical thinking skills, prefer autocratic management and scrutiny, you will fit right in and be rewarded. Together with “leadership” you can run in circles and contribute to an unruly patient environment and toxic workplace. Apply only if you want to work for a conveyor belt organization that has minimal programmatic unity and direction, lacks interest in employee career growth, lacks excellence or even proficiency, but yet continues to rapidly expand in a variety of service areas. Apply if you want to lose sight of what is in the best interest of the patient in favor of blindly following hidden agendas.

Supervisors expect you to stay past your time when your relief doesn't show up. They act completely unprofessional in many ways. The staffing is awful, unfortunately. Also, the pay for being a Nursing assistant there is terrible. I am a CERTIFIED Nursing assistant, which means I attended classes and took my state boards however most NA's here don't have a certification yet we all make all the same awful rate. Sadly, you also don't use most of your nursing skills here. You're mostly handing out sugar packets or linens all day. Lastly, MANY nurses abuse their power. I am lucky if I find time to take a lunch break. I have been let down in many ways, but patient care has got to be the biggest. These patients are not getting what they need here and it breaks my heart. The good employees can only do so much...

What is the best part of working at the company?
Counseling management has a strong clinical background, VP and Director are down to earth, eclectically trained and accessable.  Unfortunately, institutional road blocks and an old guard mentality stand in the way of the majority of client centered initiatives.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Disconnected executive management act on misinformation presented by a punitively focused nursing department.  Substance abuse may be considered a disease, however, Eagleville nursing continues to treat it as a moral failing.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Drastically divided and constantly at odds.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Keep your head down and try to play both sides of the administrative aisle.
