-no meal breaks (or any breaks) most of the time due to high census and low staffing 
-not paid through "lunch" even if you spent it working (which is typical)
-vacation time is often not approved unless you find your own coverage 
-accrued vacation time is lost without pay out if it is not used by a certain time....even though the time you requested off likely didn't get approved
-high stress environment
-often unsafe staffing conditions
-expected to "do more" with less (higher nurse:patient ratio, higher acuity, more charting, less resources, less support staff) 
-often called on days off and begged to work by co-workers to come in to help out due to poor staffing
-no raises in years, previously given incentives taken away
-no incentives to stay past the end of your shift or to come in extra on days off when unit is busy and staffing is poor
-minimal appreciation for working extra to help the unit
-people at the top continue to make big money with nice bonuses (and get to enjoy their paid time off)

I only worked here for a short period, but it was overall a great experience. Small community atmosphere, but the hospital still trained new residents who were collaborative with the nurses. 

Management was approachable and always found new ways to make the unit functional. Staffing was always a problem but the nurses were very helpful and made things work. They also had techs on their unit (which is great considering many ICUs don’t have CNAs) 

If I lived closer, I would have probably stayed but I think the system should work on getting better pay for the nurses and a better documentation system. Another thing is that since it a smaller ICU, you may not be exposed to the critical patients you often see at a Level I/II trauma center. So if you’re goal is to go to CRNA school, I would advise getting your experience here, and then moving to higher acuity hospital. 



A typical day at work here in the IT Department of ECHN consists of constantly fearing you might be written up by the tyrant Director of IT so he can fire you. I have learned that everything I was told when I accepted this job was all a lie. Any of our benefits have stripped away one at a time and morale is at an all-time low. It seems like management has given up on its employees and no longer cares, because they believe they cannot make a difference without being harassed and threatened by the Director, and this is for good reason seeing how these incidents have been reported to HR many times with no repercussions, warnings, or anything (no hope at all). My co-workers here (the ones left here) at ECHN are great, hardworking, at very skilled at what they do. Our department is very small and keeps getting smaller while the workload keeps getting larger and more difficult to support with less people.
The hardest part of the job currently is showing up and keeping this job. The most enjoyable part of this job is……..

While the work pace can be stressful at times and we are very lean hospital, I enjoy working here as I work with a great group of people who I respect and we have very supportive and collaborative senior leaders.  The CEO and COO have brought such positive energy to ECHN which was lacking for many years.  They are also making so many positive changes to help us grow and treat more patients.  I am fortunate to work here and many of the staff see and feel the changes.  And to add to this - our COO is a very dynamic and compassionate leader who has such a fierce work ethic.  He is the best boss I ever had in my career and I now for a fact that many of my colleagues stay because of him and his leadership.  He holds us accountable but is so supportive and makes things happen.  He cares about the staff and is very visible.  He makes us better as a team and we know he wants the best for us and our patients.

I worked from 1995 to through 2008 in the Department of Medical Affairs/Quality Improvement.  I left the hospital due to a distant move.  I exoerienced great job satisfaction, due in large part to the "tone from the top", from the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs.  Fair-minded, generous, allowing employees to work independantly while simultaneously working closely with staff to encourage cross-coverage and deliver superior customer service to all staff, physicians, clients, etc.   My experience in such a professional, friendly, fun, well-run office environment will always be a high point in my career.  Learned and honed many of the advanced administrative skills I continue to utilize in my subsequent professional and volunteer endeavors.

I enjoy the people I come in contact with every single day. Working at MMH has been a learning experince for me over the past 25 plus years. Majority of my team has been with me for over 10 plus years. The hardest part of my job is trouble shooting the different personalities within my departments. The most enjoyable part of my job is helping my team to become successful and watching the team grow. My day begins acknowledge everyone with a smiie and saying good morning. I receive a report from my supervisor on whats going on that day whether the OR schedule has added on cases, important packages will be deliver by priority mail or patient has special needs and if there concerns with backorders. We at ECHN practice our core values teamwork, respect, caring and comminucation.

Extremely busy. Customer service.  Make phone calls to have doctors offices fax over lab orders when the patients do not have the paper work and it is not found on file in our system. Register patients.  Review demographic information for accuracy and update any new information.  Scan paper work and insurance cards and verify insurance information to make sure that it is active.

The most enjoyable part of the job would be the relationships that you develop with the patients who come in on a regular basis. You get to know them and you miss them and wonder where they are if they do not show up for a while.  Like wise, if I am not there on a particular day they will miss me and inquire if I was on vacation or if I was not feeling well.

Most staff has a I'm better than you complex if you don't work in scrubs and can be very entitled and disrespectful management in departments like housekeeping and the kitchen have no problem belittling their staff  no matter who's around. If employees  complain to hr don't for a second think they won't go to your department head and let them know about your complaint including your name. If you advance to another position in a department you've been working in management will fight you on giving you the raise you deserve and hr will tell you they can't help

No uninterrupted half hour meal break, or no break at all- even on double shifts.  However one must state that you took your whole 1/2 hour meal break on the timeclock when you punch out or you will be written up. Even when you know you didn’t , you are bullied into saying you did. They effectively practice their wage theft from you this way. Those hours add up, and you don’t get paid for all of your hard working time.  Short staffed. Unsafe patient to nurse staffing. Managed ineffectively. You will be unappreciated, micromanaged, and you will burn out quickly . You won’t be able to stand this type of abusive work environment for very long. I’d think twice about working here.

I held various positions over the years as my education changed and I became qualified to move into a new job position, or my job was eliminated and my boss was instrumental in assisting me to find another position that I was qualified for.  Many employees were "team players" and assisted one another so that the whole unit functioned efficiently.  I learned a great deal working for this company for 10 years until I moved to another state.  I would recommend working here.  I made some of my dearest and closest friends while working here, and I still keep in touch with them, even though I now live over 600 miles away.
