There was one manager during the time I worked for Dishnetwork that was absolutely phenomenal.  The other managers were average, but it seemed like it was more due to just giving up & not wanting to push anymore.  

Like every company though - there are always good & bad employees that can change the work environment & attitude towards a company.  Thankfully, I was able to work with one manager that stood up & fought those battles and implemented a lot of very necessary changes and paved the way for the other managers to follow.  He is the only reason for my giving an overall rating of 3 stars.

The company is very focused on customer satisfaction which is great, but their employees receive little or no consideration.

Employee safety should be right up there on the top of the list next to customer satisfaction.  No employee should ever reach the point of sleep deprivation & falling asleep on the road.

The managers were consistently battling to get innovative ideas approved that could improve workflow & employee morale.  If they would cost the company any money at all - it was difficult to get approved & the managers had to be very persistent and became known as the ones that "rocked the boat" all the time. 

Both the Denver & Colorado Springs offices had similar cons with the company. The overall feelings that employees expressed at both of these offices on a regular basis was that customers are important & employees are there to work as much as possible for as little as possible.

It was a very stressful place to work. Especially, if you were the type of employee that continuously had innovative ideas.

I cannot speak for other offices as I only worked in those two, but I hope the company has improved their relationship with their employees since I last worked there because they had some awesome, talented people working for them when I left that truly deserved to be treated with respect.

The company wasn't so bad back in the old days when it was still small, but as the company grew and when it split into 2 companies in 2005, Echostar and Dish Network, that's when it really started going down hill. The DISH side was much worse than the Echo side.

Corporate Employees were treated like cattle - salaried emloyees hours were tracked each week - requiring a min of 42 hours/week. The work week started on Saturday so if you worked M-f 8-5 you would not make the 42 min and your were flagged in the system. The electronic badge in/badge out system tracked everyone's time in or out of the bulding. People were afraid to take lunch out of the office becuse it would subtract their hours for the week (these are salaried employees). Working from home did not count and could not be tracked, but for many positions you HAD to work from home at nightand weekends in order to get everything done. They over-worked the employees, underpayed and under valued everyone who wasn't an executive. The turnover there was outrageous. The perks were few - free Dish netowrk service which only started in 2009 for employees. The free dish service was mandatory for all employees and if you could not get it install you had to justify why and that you attmepted to have an Installer try. Core hours at Corporate office were from 830am to 430pm - if you were one minute past 9am you were late and only allowed to be late 3 times. This was all used in your overall performance appraisal. Raises and bonus were rarely given to the general employees. Many years employees were told that no one would recieve any raises. This would have been acceptable if all the VPs weren't showing up in the new Porce, Hummers, and expensive new flashy cars right after PAs were given.

First of all, let me clarify something. When I got hired to work for DishNetwork (back in 06), I had to do a urine drug test. I've recently been told that they do not drug test anymore, but cannot verify that. If you go apply to DishNetwork, I would recommend planning on taking a urine drug test.

A typical day at work started with me arriving and booting up the computer. I had my own desk, that I had decorated with glued-together puzzles, and the walls of my cubicle were pinned with information necessary for me to do my job quickly and efficiently.Training is super intensive, and 8 weeks long. They don't just hand you a phone and throw you to the wolves. They make sure you know exactly what you're talking about when you get on the phone for the first time. My management team was the best I've ever worked with. I still keep in touch with one of them.

The hardest part of the job was remembering all the stuff we'd learned in training, and making sure to keep up-to-date on all the new equipment. But, with a little practice, it became a lot easier. If you aren't sure of something, there's a whole computer system that's stuffed full of information, right at your fingertips.

The most enjoyable part of my days were when the queue was low, and we got to do quizzes with our teammates, at our desks, to make sure we remembered the latest training. And there was always something new to learn. You never got bored there; you simply weren't given any time to get bored.

I highly recommend that anyone considering working here think again. In order to work here, you must move to Cheyenne which isn't everyone's cup of tea. Between the weather and the intense loneliness and boredom and insane jerks, not everyone will find the capital of Wyoming in the southeast corner of the state to be habitable, certainly not desirable. 

On top of that, management is absolutely the worst I've ever seen in my life. This is, I believe, where the worst, most unsuccessful, most incompetent people end up. There is this curious culture that rewards bullying. They like to beat up on outsiders but assure them that they don't want them to leave the company or the area. This schizophrenia is maddening and unhealthy. The only notable exception to this was my manager in the Engineering Department. He was originally from Montana and somehow managed to escape inheriting the stupid gene, a very intelligent and decent sort of person who was a relief to work for.

Also, if you are not a drinker or smoker, you will definitely want to avoid this place.

There are no known means of advancement at this company. Those who remain are lifers who intend to stay in their jobs until they drop dead, so until that unlikely event occurs, you will be stuck at whatever level at which you entered the company. Your only hope of escape is to transfer to one of the rare openings in their Gilbert, AZ, facility where you will be treated to the same insane management environment under which you suffered at this facility.

Working as a technician at DISH was easily one of the most stressful jobs I’ve ever had. The job itself isn’t hard — installs, service calls, running lines, climbing ladders — that part is fine. The problem is everything else.

Management pushes impossible metrics like PPPH and R12, and they expect you to hit numbers that don’t even match the reality of daily routes. One bad job or one customer issue and you’re getting lectured about “performance.” Half-done work orders or customer cancellations still fall on you. They want techs to “sell every day,” but customers don’t want to buy half the stuff we’re told to push, and you still get blamed if you don’t hit sales.

Communication is all over the place. One manager will tell you one thing, another says the opposite. Policies change constantly. They talk about safety, but rush you through long routes with barely any breaks. You’re basically on your own every day, but somehow everything is still your fault.

The work truck is nice, the pay is okay when they don’t mess with your metrics, and some coworkers were great. But the stress, pressure, unrealistic expectations, and poor support make the job not worth it in the long run. If you don’t hit their magic numbers, they treat you like you’re useless even when you’re actually doing good work.

Management/training is solid, if you need help they are there. work with you if you are struggling in a certain area. usually will work with you on sched if you have to take off, pretty good people in those roles. noticed most of the co-workers mostly had a dont care attitude, just there for a check. As far as a typical work day goes, you are suppose to work 4/10s but plan on it being 4/12-15s, they do give time and half OT, but still does not make up for suppose to be getting off at 5pm and actually not getting off until 7-9pm, lots of driving, ladder work, crawling around in crawl spaces and attacks. Usually peoples houses are nasty, and if you dont like tight dirty spaces its definitely not for you. Its nice to have the freedom while out on the job, usually dont get checked on to much but thy will randomely show up on jobs, big on wearing your PPE. all in all, if you like being outside, driving a lot, working long days, dealing with nasty houses and crawlspaces, hot atticks, dealing with customers and their annoying kids hoovering over your shoulder, and having to do everything at a very fast paced this job is for you. If not don't bother, most techs quit after the month training period, which does not offer enough field time. believe the turn-ovr rate is around 90%, that should tell you a lot right there.Oh and you have to pay a alot out of your check for benefits.

Satellite TV is a dying industry. Satellite internet is better, but its very expensive and Starlink is better. On top of that, wireless internet is becoming a better product all the time.  Everything considered, Echostar doesn't have a good outlook. They say they are going into cell phones but its not happened and every time they try to do a full launch it doesn't happen. They acquired Dish because Dish is hanging on by a thread - It was already the same company, just a different arm that's been reattached.  Reality is, the whole thing is barely hanging on, the acquisition  just makes Dish last a bit longer.  As a job, if you join, be aware that your job is likely temporary. People have been bailing and being laid off regularly for the past 5 years at least now. The atmosphere in the company is that of desperation.  Dishonestly is becoming a common thing, both to employees and to  customers.  Sales staff are still pressured to hit targets that are beyond what the industry market can provide, and employees are scared of losing their jobs; this is a bad combination for customers.  A lot of the people who were good leaders are long gone. In short, I can't recommend anyone even consider working here anymore; unless you just desperately need a job. Then go ahead and do it, but keep looking for something better and that will give you a long term job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
If you find it extremely challenging working in a rapid paced environment where changes can happen in a moments notice, and if you're not comfortable with learning and using using the newest technology, then EchoStar is probably not for you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was relaxed atmosphere, attire is business-casual. You're free to chat with co workers to find a resolution to obstacles when assisting customers. All the managers have open-door policy and welcome concerns, suggestions, ideas, etc. No one was excluded. Trainings ended with celebrations and an impromptu "graduation" of sorts. All around awesome place to work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In my role I received incoming calls from Boost Mobile dealers, Activation Specialists and customers with regards to analyzing and correcting connectivity issues with customers phones. I enjoyed  educating customers on their devices work.

I usually get up around 6 am in the morning to start van inventory count and job listings for the day. Once the works orders are received, we call all customers on the daily route with estimated times of arrival. When at the job site, we perform the necessary needs as far as new connections, troubleshoot, and upgrade services to the customer. It involves a lot of hands on and technical skills to deliver great service and rapport with many different type of consumers. 
I've learned a lot about myself and how to use the tools available at hand to complete jobs on a specific time frame. Majority of the work load does involve driving to and from long distances of Arizona. Show low,Globe, Tucson,Phoenix metro and etc.
Management teams consists of many that are placed in specific cities throughout Arizona. One per area that handle around 8-12 technicians.
The hardest part of the job is learning how to multitask or be more productive. Every year is a newer and improved receiver models and more customers that want everything there is in the technological world of television.

A typical day at work would be coming in and logging on to your computer then having  a five minute with your co-workers and manager then getting on the phones and serving the customers. I learned that the customer is the reason we get a paycheck and you always want to please that customer no matter what. You had some managers that were fair and cared about what you thought or how you felt about different things. My co-workers were a joy to work with we all made it comfortable for each other. The hardest part of the job was when a customer wants to disconnect their service and you try whatever you can to save them but they still disconnect. The most enjoyable part of my job was when I would have different actors that came into the call center to promote their movies and we would get to meet them.
